I do wish that ofmd had the time or inclination to focus on how different stede and ed are due to their upbringing in different classes in society. I wish the show had explored their feelings about that elephant in the room, rather than just the external conflict that causes. I would've loved a moment where ed was very genuinely like "stede let me handle this I don't think you can handle it" and stede was like "you think I can't handle it?? I've suffered! I've gone hungry and worn the same dirty shirt for three months straight I can handle it!!" and then proceeds to get in over his head. does he succeed does he fail? either way is good.

it feels like the closest the show ever got to this was 1x08 with jack taunting stede about his fancy pants upbringing, which is great and all, but it just feels strange to me that the show seems completely uninterested in exploring the conflict that class divide could cause between them internally. if you read my fics you've probably caught that I'm really interested in that stuff. it seems to me like djenks just isn't, rather than that being something they cut last minute, which is wild to me because I think diving into ed's feelings of inadequacy and stede's feelings of not being good enough and not having suffered enough is juicy as fuuuuuck

Rewatched OFMD last week, and it reminded me of what I most love about being queer – community.

I don't talk enough about how discovering myself as queer saved my life. There are so many bad things in the world happening, and we're so targeted towards so many of them, and I could step out of my house tomorrow and be killed for it, but there's nothing, nothing, that would make me change who I am. Being part of this beautiful community helps me fight every day. This month I wish a Happy Pride to those out, those hiding, those afraid, those who fight, to my trans siblings, my gender non-conforming siblings, intersex people, everyone in the gray spectrum, every queer poc, every disabled person within the community, those who are not sure what they are yet, everyone who has been embraced by the amazing community we continue building. Love others and love who you are, not just during June but every day, all year long. We deserve sunshine. Stay safe.
