so I got into grad school today with my shitty 2.8 gpa and the moral of the story is reblog those good luck posts for the love of god
okay so i just got my dream job??? a week after applying to it?? and now i’m thinking….maybe this is the good luck post
Hold on I think my phone might have just told me the ending of Moby Dick 😭
This was just a coincidence but it's a silly one
Hello Queeshmael enjoyers.
Lately Ive been thinking about Ishmael and how he would grieve after he returned to shore. Just kind of a hunch but I feel like he would do these strange rituals that seem like denial. When he goes to diners he would order two cups of coffee and leave the other untouched, he’d sit on benches and leave some space next to him and scoot over if someone else came to sit as if another invisible person was there. But in truth he knows full well that Queequeg is gone, these rituals aren’t done to pretend he’s still there but simply to give the mans spirit a place among him, let his presence be alive even if his body isn’t. That even in death I will attend to you and love you all the same.
Moby Dick is long and boring TO YOU. Moby Dick is a tedious read TO YOU. I found every word and every chapter on this page to be very insightful and interesting actually. In fact Ishmael doesn’t yap enough. Anyways it’s like 1am 1851 classic literature novel about whales and gay men save meeeeeeeeeee
The novice mariner, anxious about his first voyage: man I hope I see a good omen
The joyful huzza porpoise:
Everyone who reads Moby Dick instantly turns into a fanatic about it and its making me realise that you all would all go buck wild at the opportunity to go whaling to help some old man fight God. You would all cheer for the dabloon that would mark your final throes.
Cannot lie the moment that doubloon was nailed to the mast I would go absolutely crazy rest in peace Pequod crew I truly am no better than you all
ishmael using a pseudonym is so funny. like what are you in witness protection? from the whale?
virtually nobody [im aware of] that follows me is into Moby Dick, so i’m just gonna lay it out rn. i need everyone to know that Ishmael and Queequeg are literally textually married. i can point to the chapter and i can point to the line. Several times this is brought up in the book since it happens in the first few chapters.
every day i think about how perfectly constructed, from a literary, craft standpoint, the opening chapter of moby dick is. and i get so mad both because its so good it makes me mad and because so many prominent 19th century reviewers didnt get it at all. victorian england did not deserve moby dick frankly
I love going in the moby dick tag because like once a month you'll have someone be like "oh my god. This book is incredible. Why did I think this would be boring. This book has changed my life."
Wow y'know I'd heard moby dick had some queer undertones but I was not prepared for the narrator to like fully get gay married. By chapter 10
Ishmael, after going on a whaleboat with Starbuck for the first time:
Started reading Moby Dick last night and truly was not prepared for how this book really does just start like "yo, I'm Ishmael, and whenever I feel like I want to kill myself, I go and see if any ships are hiring sailors." Like oh, okay bestie!! That's how we're doing, huh?
