Be as "cringe" as you want; if people don't like it, they don't have to interact with you. Guest accounts, online aliases, etc., are all ways you can be active in fandom without it linking back to your irl self if that's what you're worried about. So write that fic, draw that self-ship art, and support creators who like the same things as you. It's better to be perceived as cringe by some asshole whose opinion doesn't matter than to hold back from the things that bring you joy. As long as you're not hurting anyone, you're free to go wild with things.

unpopular opinion probably but I actually like that ao3 doesn’t let people take back their kudos.

unlike social media platforms (which ao3 is not) where people unlike stuff whenever they think or find out the original posters’ moral compass doesn’t perfectly align with their own’s or whatever, and “likes” can be taken back at any time, ao3 treats kudos as something sacred. once you give it, it’s the author’s to keep forever.

Best part is if someone deletes their account, the kudos remains, and it just gets swapped over to a guest kudos instead. The body is gone but the love remains.

anyways it is very important to be aware of that kind of stuff bc we live in a racist society and its very easy to perpetuate systemic violence even in the little ways (im not perfect myself and like im somewhat more lighter-skinned than my peers even so i dont feel the hit of racism as roughly as some of them do) BUT for what its worth i think its a very worthwhile line to walk. whump is also about the validation of pain & exploring suffering while humanizing your unlucky main character and Black (+ other nonwhite) characters should get that too. make your nonwhite whumpees cry their eyeballs out and feel hollow in face of the world today #myagenda

they also deserve tragic backstories + sweet caretakers + the reclamation of bodily autonomy in recovery + identity issues + drowning in the puts of utter despair + generally have the world time of their lives while an audience sympathizes with them. it shouldnt be just the white boys who get it. hold my hand. let's put our Black characters through such hellish torment that they come out on the other side feeling a tangible gab between who they became vs who they used to be. together.

(still on the same vein, this post by @/creatingblackcharacters is a pretty nice resource to start out i think every now and then i reread it i think it has nice things to keep in mind)

friends-to-lovers fanfiction writers need to get it in their heads that just because they have unresolved trauma from their high school “homoerotic situationship” doesn’t mean all of us want to be exposed to their (untagged!!) saccharine and vapid fetish…. imagine an impressionable user reads your o/n/e b/e/d trope fic and feels pressured to enter a monogamous romantic relationship, or god forbid m*rriage, the next time they have sex with a close friend or roommate. all because you’ve normalized this bullshit. get better coping mechanisms or is fluff the only thing in your skull as well?

I know there's a popular headcanon that Grace's crew died because of feeding tubes malfunction (based on the paperwork Grace was doing right before the explosion), but — in the book he specifically says that even after the accident he kept dealing with that same paperwork on minor Hail Mary issues, so I doubt that feeding tube problem was left unaddressed. May I offer instead:

Grace was put into coma by the people who cared about him. They (especially Yáo being Yáo) probably double-triple-quadruple checked everything. They watched him sleep for those first few days — I doubt they went into coma immediately after leaving Earth's orbit. They probably talked to him, assuring him that he'll be okay.

Ilyukhina's coma procedure was probably supervised by Yáo. He made sure that everything was in order, but — he is just one man and he is not a doctor. There was much more room for mistakes.

When Yáo went to sleep, he was alone. He had to rely on the technology completely.

We know that he died first.
