Lumbricus castaneus may be one of my favorite local earthworm species for its small size, active nature, and strong iridescence, which varies in color from deep blue to yellowish green.
found on the surface under leaf litter or old wood, when you uncover one of these spirited little worms it’ll sprint off to safety, shining all the way.

A new Rain Frog (Anura: Brevicipitidae; Breviceps) from the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, South Africa
du Preez, Minter, et al.
ABSTRACT
Breviceps, an African genus of fossorial frogs, comprises 20 species most of which occur in South Africa. In this study we describe a new species that differs morphologically from its closest congener Breviceps verrucosus, in the position of the mouth and relative size of the inner and outer metatarsal tubercles. Its taxonomic status as a separate species is placed beyond doubt by very significant differences in the structure of the advertisement call and substantial genetic divergence (7.5% uncorrected p-distance) in the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene. This study demonstrates the value of an integrative approach in taxonomy and that, when assessing the reliability of distribution data, it is better to err on the side of caution.

This week I've had to fill out a lot of forms with this mandatory question:
Which feels like "there are only two genders" wearing a woke hat
well in a just world it would not be
That reminds me of this pair of questions I got on a survey the other day:
You ever just realize how lucky you are that you did that weird thing that led to you being friends with the people you are friends with?
ICE separated a five year old child from his father and sent him to a detention facility in Texas. His family didn't know his whereabouts for almost 24 hours. There is no hell hot enough.
My friend took this shot.
Tell your friend thank you for their bravery and for helping to get the word out about Liam.
Liam Adrian Cornejo Ramos is just 5 years old and currently in pre-K. Yesterday, he and h… sarai Orquiz needs your support for Help Bring 5-
According to Minneapolis Public Schools 4 small children total have been kidnapped by ICE since this round of raids started this week including Liam.

You know your drunk art post about love and personhood from 2019? Every night at bedtime my late cat would lie on my chest, and her little heartbeat would be right on top of mine, and I'd think about that piece of art you made, and have a similar sort of image in my head. Anyway, yesterday I finally put the image to paper, and idk where this is going, just that that piece of art you created means a lot to me. Have a cool day ✌️
OHHHH MY GOD!!!!! EVERYBODY SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LOOK AT THIS. ITS ALL BEEN WORTH IT
Appearances can be deceiving. 👀 Though it may look like a close relative of rabbits or mice, the bush hyrax (Heterohyrax brucei) is actually more closely related to manatees and elephants! All three animals are members of the clade Paenungulata. And just as in elephants, the hyrax’s front incisors grow continuously to form tusks. Unlike its larger cousins, this small mammal only weighs about 10 lbs (4.5 kg). It inhabits rocky areas, and can be found in parts of Africa including Egypt and Angola.

🔥 A giant curious moose inspecting a wildlife photographer 🔥
Never forget: Moose are legit Ice Age megafauna that never died out.
He just….just….pet the wild moose…the bravery, the hutzpah
The forbidden snoot!
If I could pet a moose
I would be very happy
Normally I would say you shouldn’t pet a wild animal, but the moose is already right there. If you’re that close to a moose’s snout you might as well pet it. If the moose wants to kill you, you’re going to die, so you might as well.
