“sorry, i don’t know your name– you one of those new interns that they say they’re going to keep hiring for me but then don’t?” he glances over at the younger man, “or are you here for something else?”
“Ah, er ...” eyes lift up from the book he’s got in hand, thumb shifting to mark the page he’s at. “Ah’m... Sam. Sam Guthrie. Steve- Mr. Rogers- Captain America told me to wait ... here. For you.” Intern or something. But the Professor had been wanting to get him involved in this Young Heroes ... program? Thing? Connect Sam with the more well known heroes of their time. Would help when it came to leading the New Mutants with Dani.

“ Yes, I do actually. Because of my other self I’ve had to do a lot of research into a variety of areas. Plus, since the accident at Chernobyl and even before it I was fascinated. I also study at leisure thermodynamics. Why? Something you’re interested in, or does this have to deal with your mutation? “
Bruce had an intelligence that no modern IQ test could even scale. Tony’s was about 250 or so, but he was more of a tinkerer who got lucky most of the time. Contrary to belief he understood quantum mechanics quite well, he just.. never had an intention of actually sending Antman back in time. It was too dangerous, and just like Tony he thought it was a flue he had actually lived and made it back. Time travel also lead to dangerous ideas and just was not safe. His IQ was not quantifiable, it surpassed Tony and Scott’s combined. He was rather next to Reed Richards in that respect, someone he respected to a point. He was irritating, Victor Von Doom had gotten that part right.
“ What sorts of sciences are you interested in? You’re still young, a young g mind can absorb a lot when put to task. Maybe I could introduce you to some things that you might enjoy. “
"Erm- my... my, er ... power ..." Except the last word is almost a whisper. A bit ashamed. Power meant so many things. None of which he felt worthy of. Or deserving. He's wondering how much of his file is redacted - or not. If his requests to take bits and pieces out (namely the early days, pre-Institute) had been adhered to via the Professor. He sure hoped so. Or Dr. Banner might see him as so much different... more dangerous. Volatile. Indecent.
He’s quite thankful for the question from the Doctor, the change in subject. Turn it away from the less desirable and into something which sparks passion. “Ah’ve found mahself to be keen on biology, genealogy ... chemistry-” Sam cuts himself off before he can find himself rambling too long. He could probably go off for hours, considering the amount of time he spend at the Institute’s library. Or waiting outside the Professor’s office to trade off the assortment of books he borrowed every week or so.
He’s quick to shake his head, refuse any sort of offer. “Ya ain’t gotta do that- Ah- Ah’m just here for- ya aint gotta go outta your way-” he stuttered off, the polite country boy coming out. As per usual. Hands stick themselves into his pockets, to make sure he doesn’t explore the lab space - start touching various things that catch the eye.
buchananbarnes1991:
“Right, I’ll just follow and handle the stranglers. I won’t kill them unless I find there to be no other option out of a sake of my own safety.” Bucky reasons as he felt that was the most logical within what the kid had wanted out of their mission.
“Do I get any way to defend myself from the blasts, like if I get caught in the line of fire?” Questioning as he really hadn’t gotten the time to read up on the kid, not with how busy he’d been. He was just told that Sammie would be joining him since, Cap was out of the area on a different field task.
Sam decided that was good enough, as good as it would get, and gave an acknowledging nod. Self defense. As it was needed. Though, hopefully, he prayed, it wouldn’t come to that. He’d done ops like this before, it would be just fine. Of course, he was usually in a team of five or six teenage Mutants, but ... this would do.
Eyes dart over to try and catch what the other meant. But then nod, when he understands. “Ah just won’t hit ya,” he decided. Obviously. He’d gotten significantly better at his turns now, moreorless having mastered the control of his flight path. At least in comparison to when his powers had first shown up? Yeah, it was a HUGE development of growth. Ask anyone on his team. They’d just laugh off about the early days.
buchananbarnes1991:
“And what happens if one of them radios to the person in charge of keeping an eye on the hostages to just kill them? We don’t know how they’re going to react.” Bucky protests the idea of distraction, as distraction still left an open window of not having control. “Your blasts, they’re.. non-lethal?” Curiously asking as he stepped a little closer to Sammie, making sure that he wasn’t just going to run ahead.
"Ah go in first, get ahead to the guys keeping an eye out. 'fore they can even radio to 'em." He suggested easily, trying to find whatever route it would take to do this the most peacefully.
He shook his head slow. "Ah ain't get hurt by 'em. An' far's Ah can tell, when Ah got someone in my blast field, they ain't hurt neither. Til the second they drop outta it." He still wasn't entirely sure the full extent of his powers. The Professor tried to explain as best he could, even provided countless books at Sam's request for research. And they studied it, each other, in the Danger Room, trying to figure out what exactly they could each do. How they could advance themselves, their powers. Their limits.
@callofthesnakes || plotted . For lena .
He’s sat in the common area, the rec room. Whatever they wanted to call it. Recreation was limited. Commonality was an understatement. Except that he didn’t belong here, as much as probably half of the folks. The young man has settled himself in the corner of the room, away from a majority of the activity. A book in hand - one he’d been allowed as long as he remained on ‘good behavior’ (whatever that entailed, because apparently even stepping wrong would get you in trouble here), and he had to give it back when he left the room. But at least it kept the mind busy, helped ease anxieties a little. He’s barely been here a few days, but it all sets the stomach on edge. Didn’t seem any more safe than being out there.
Mac: Ah yes, my train of thought.
Mac: Or as I like to call it, the anxiety express.
buchananbarnes1991:
“Fine, then what’s your plan? Because I was thinking of going in there silently and handling the situation permantly. It would clear our path and there wouldn’t be a risk on bringing out the people that are being held hostage. It also gives us more time to collect evidence.” Bucky explains as he did want to give the kid a chance but he’d also known that it would be all on himself if anything happened to the younger agent.
“We head in there, distract ‘em, you disarm and disable ‘em ... Ah go round for the hostages, get ‘em out. NO ONE gets killed.” the most common procedure his team had established for their own missions. With slight adjustments dependent on the location and scenario. But the basic idea was there: no casualties. “Ah can blast ‘em out. Ain’t gonna get hurt if they within my touch.” he explained simply, curtly. Like it was the most common thing around.
yougotaminute:
“Aren’t you supposed to be the team leader?” She raised an eyebrow, gesturing at him absentmindedly. If she was going to join any teams, it for sure wasn’t going to be one with such a weird, uncreative name. Not that she wanted to join any teams in the first place. She was better off alone, where she couldn’t put the people she loved in danger.
“Kind of. Got bitten by a radioactive spider, got my powers taken away, got a symbiote.” She raised a hand, letting V transform into a few gummy spiders and retract the suit from her hand.
“ Co - leader ,” he emphasized the beginning, with a bit of frown to the lips. Roberto and Illyana never let him forget that precursor. Anytime he’s trying to make a decision and they want to be assholes about it. Not that they enjoyed listening to Dani either. Just had to always give them both a hard time. Thankfully the Professor had the final say for most of it.
He stepped back, set off guard by the change in her suit, the crawling creepers. The mention of a symbiote. “L-like a ... parasite?” While he’s interested in how it works, he’s also averted. Not quite sure how safe it could be.
