Jae's Thoughts on the Devildom (Part 1)
I got to ranting today--mostly about Lucifer--and decided I'd take down what opinions Jae (My MC) has about the cast we know and love. We'll start at the top!
Undateables coming in Part 2!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
LUCIFER: The definition of "It's Complicated". She will freely admit he's very attractive, sure that there's a good heart somewhere under his thorns and walls and ice, but damn if the thorns, walls, and ice aren't absolutely infuriating to her. She thinks his always-right-holier-than-thou attitude needs checking, badly, and that his words cut deeply and often, and more than likely those words are pointed toward one of his brothers. She can't hold her tongue when he's getting particularly nasty, but she's very aware that his hold on his temper is only marginally better than Satan's. Just when she's sure she absolutely despises the man, he surprises her with a heartfelt gesture, or a subtle show of affection toward the others when he's sure it will be completely unseen. The best way to describe their interactions is like a "flirt-hate-ionship"; they can talk civilly...but only just.
MAMMON: Her first real friend. Sure, he's boisterous, loud, and emotionally taxing, but they have something in common--a long life of everyone assuming they won't amount to anything at all. He cares, and he cares hard. And very few of his brothers ever give him credit for the love he has for them. In her opinion, they balance each other very well--he brings her out of her shell, while she teaches him how to slow down and appreciate the things he has, not what he can get. She feels like he's one of the few that really sees who she is at her core--all of the good, the bad, and everything in-between. He's irreplaceable to her.
LEVIATHAN: Levi is her kindred spirit. She understands hyperfixation--hell, she's had one hell of a weeb phase, and her knowledge of k-pop and visual kei music is second to none. But more than that, she knows how hard it is when you're explaining a passion to someone who simply doesn't care. They're both depressed, anxious homebodies who find themselves much more at home in the safety of the House instead of out in the public eye. Once he's convinced that she knows about thoughts of not being good enough or not being heard, their friendship is much stronger than she expected. Every new obsession, meme, and salt-filled vent passes between them by either word or text, and she considers him one of her closest and dearest friends.
SATAN: She appreciates his mind. Another of the brothers that prefers quiet, so much so that he intimidated her at the start of her stay. His resting face is...anything but welcoming. But once, on Mammon's suggestion, she approached him to ask for help with Devildom history, and they quickly bonded over books, animals, and disdain for Lucifer. He's one of the first she messages whenever the eldest gets on her nerves, and while she's not active in any pranks or plots...she often helps plan them out. She's sure there's more to him, but he won't let her close enough to see--content to find new book series and to gripe about how Lucifer's rules against keeping pets are unfair. Their study sessions are something she can almost look forward to, if only for some time to recharge from his more emotionally draining siblings.
ASMODEUS: Out of the whole family, Asmo is the one that Jae expected to like the least. He's vocal, social, and absolutely in tune with himself and his self-esteem...everything that she is not. But he quickly proves that popular doesn't always mean shallow--treating her with much more kindness and respect than she expected. Much like Mammon, he encourages her to explore the Devildom, seeing her self-deprecating attitude and helping to untangle her harsh thoughts about her appearance with trips to Majolish and spa days at the House. She suspects that his flirting and teasing are hiding something deeper, but she hasn't been able to scratch the surface. At the very least he's always happy to let her vent about anything and everything...and share some piping hot tea of his own.
BEELZEBUB: While most of the brothers are a drain on her energy and emotions, Beel is the only one she's met that helps her recharge. At one time he intimidated her the most (stories about eating people will do that to a gal) but once she starts to talk to him, she finds a sweet, caring, and startlingly gentle soul. Joining Mammon and Levi as her closest friends, Beel is usually never farther from arm's reach from her, and a steadfast and comforting presence throughout her day. She tries not to rely on him too much, not wanting to add to the list of burdens he piles on top of himself to make his brothers happy, but she's happy to have a friend in her life that expects nothing from her. Even on her worst days, he's there beside her, content to do anything or nothing at all. She isn't sure she could ever find a way to thank him, or find the words to tell him just what he means to her.
BELPHEGOR: Belphie is...complicated. And genuinely he's the one she knows the least about, through his fault and her own. Her heart goes out to him for what he's gone through, and she can understand his rage toward humankind and toward Lucifer...but getting killed is something she can't really forget, even though she's trying to forgive. He terrifies her, though she would never admit it, and while she tries for Beel's sake to leave the past behind, she's most comforted by the fact that they tend to avoid each other as much as they can.
