This runs into the weird problem with Shrek. When Shrek first came out, it was mocking the genuine sincerity of disney films at the time and before. But then it was a hit to the degree that disney has emulated its humor style and snarkiness in damn near every movie of the last twenty-five years. And not just disney either; a significant percentage of movies PERIOD over the last twenty-five years have been imitating Shrek's style of humor in some form, and often badly. So that particular style of snarky-pop culture reference humor now seems lowest common denominator and mainstream, when it was once groundbreaking and new.

It's a genuinely weird problem for a movie or franchise to have: what happens when a satire is so successful it basically entirely replaces and supplants the genre it was originally mocking.
