Even if it made for unnecessary hatred of the characters and eternal bitching from the fandom, I do really like that neither Sakura nor Rin ever felt apologetic for not returning Naruto’s/Obito’s feelings. Sakura tried to confess to Naruto, incredibly self-sacrificingly, but it was emphasised that she never truly meant it; she felt like it was her duty. She was pressured by those around her into feeling like it was HER fault that Naruto had a crush on her, and this was swiftly pointed out to be unethical. Sick of stories where the girl settles for someone she doesn’t initially want just because he’s “such a nice guy”, he likes you so much, you should give him a chance. Part of the reason so many people hate Sasuke/Sakura (and sometimes I’m one of them, don’t get me wrong) is because they expected a formulaic resolution where the MC, the hero who proved himself, reaps the rewards of a previously uninterested woman’s affection
I lovee love obirin for that exact reason. she wasn't in love with him and yet cared for him deeply as a person and a friend, was always there for him in life and in the afterlife AND VICE VERSA she's the most important person to obito no matter if she likes him back or not. they have this connection that transcends crushes. thats why even if when they got older kakarin got together, obito would've been genuinely happy for her, because what makes her happy is whats important
+ everything about sakura is yesyesyes, she doesn't owe her feelings to naruto or anyone
they used to bully him, calling him pretty boy
Rin and Kurenai about to pick up their new teams :) I'll do colors tomorrow.
dont understand why its a common take that obkk cant work (even as friends) because kakashi is too hung up on his ideal version of obito.
because obito did know this and tried using it to basically seduce kakashi on his side by promising him his ideal version of obito (and rin) and kakashi refused.
he didnt want to be with his old team in some dream world but he was rather willing to keep obito alive and make him atone somehow. he was ready to have this bitter, broken, defeated version of obito over the childhood fantasies. he asked him not to disrespect the real rin and her sacrifice. later he even tried to die with him.
atonement and death was more acceptable to him than a false version that doesnt exist anymore even if he caught a glimpse of it and that was enough for him. people underestimate kakashi if they believe he cant work through this with someone like obito who he cares about that deeply. its not impossible even if it might take some time.

@kkobweek yaauy. day one: parent figures (kushina :3), additional prompt: any au
@kkobweek day 3: Ninja guys day with Tenzo and Gai! Poor Yamato has gotten blisters on this jog which was supposed to be a relaxing evening walk, meanwhile Gai knows that the only way to stay healthy at 30+ is to get your steps in. 👍
idk if someone alr made one of them
the thing about obito's whole "I am nobody" speech is obviously that he is not "nobody" & that he still has people who remember him both for who he was and for who he becomes.
like obito is very much a selfed character -- the entire tsukuyomi plan was carried out bc he had motives aside from what madara wanted, and he resisted becoming madara's mindless vessel every step of the way. he had a clear goal: to see his team back together in the infinite tsukuyomi. obito keeps implying that he thinks the current world is worthless and "not real" & that he'll make everything better in the infinite tsukuyomi but his actions (saving the supposedly "fake" kakashi again and again, defying madara to do what he wants) display an awareness that this is not true.
ironically, kakashi (who is part of the team trying to convince him of this) doesn't actually seem to have that awareness -- he's pieced a personality for himself together from people he's lost because he didn't get to develop a sense of self early on and sees the world almost entirely through projections of them, failing to see the reality of most of the people around him.
I find this aspect of them as foils (and their contrasting ways of coping w grief): "guy who's convinced the world around him is fake and subconsciously knows its real" vs "guy who deludes himself into thinking that he's living in the present when he's actually just living through his own projections" really interesting & its one of the many reasons I ship them
The problem with commercial F/M romance is that it's written by the most heterosexual women alive and reading it you feel yourself slowly suffocating from the Gender of it all like a fish in a eutrophying lake. And what we actually need as a culture is F/M written by insane bisexuals violently allergic to heteronormativity
Sometimes I feel like you never leave.
I actually can see kakashi using the ‘promise to Obito’ to avoid expressing any sort of friendship because he was a depressed manic little child solider. Normal kids his age have done stupider things. Doesn’t necessarily mean he was ignoring Rin as a person, just that he’s a little fucked up in the head.
If Kakashi was so dedicated to Obito when they didn’t even get along, then it follows that he gave a fuck about Rin. More than a fuck.
But I also think that Rin, as a child soldier on the verge of suicide, should be fucked up enough not to realize that. If Rin is the catalyst of the events of the plot, she deserves to do something profoundly cruel before her sacrifice.
None of these children are socialized enough to express their feeling and all of them are too isolated by the horrors to realize that everyone else is putting up a front.
yeah I don't think he was ignoring her. kishimoto's trying to convey that he did care about her separate from obito (the whole "we're going to do a joint suicide and finally catch up with eachother, all three of us" moment before obitos death) and that she was a precious friend he mourns every day. he definitely values her and her choice to die (good old konoha brainwashing) + its also implied that he wishes he reciprocated her feelings (all the projection that he does with sasusaku). its just that because kishi made obito an important character who should have deep ties with kakashi, every time rin is brought up its tied to obito and kakashis guilt towards him. so now every rin mention makes it seem like kks doesn't care about her outside of him. I guess thats what you get when you make her a narrative tool for her teammates
the last sentence is literally perfect lol, you summed up the appeal of team minatos dynamic
this meme is about THEM
I'm allergic to straight ships but team minato makes it work somehow
obirin? hell yeah we all know they would've been an insane crazy person + an insane crazy person couple. rin doing whatever unethical experiments she wants and obito being supportive because its rin♥️yay♥️ and we all remember that she's all for his war crimes, it can't be more perfect
kakarin? those two are compexx. because its either he feels bad and starts dating her out of pity (he's a changed person and appreciates her feelings now😍he doesn't) or he genuinely catches feelings but can't see past the idealised version of her no matter what. she's into whatever orochimaru is doing? this can't be right, she must've been groomed, she doesn't understand how bad his work is, we need to save her etc. meanwhile rins just.. chilling
anyway this team should've been together to make everyone around them feel like they're losing sanity from seeing how they interact with eachother
I love war arc kkob
