Second, IMTF fanfiction where Wei Wuxian didn't grow up with the Jiang clan but also not with any of the other great clans or Baoshan Sanren. It can be that he grew up with a minor clan (I think I once read a fic with him in the Tingshan He clan maybe) or in a temple or with rogue cultivators or common people (be they nobles or merchants or farmers).

Summary: Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian had been on a simple trip when they had heard about people going missing in the town they stopped at. During the course of the investigation, they had realized that the culprits had mistakenly formed a time travel array. Somehow, the ensuing fight had resulted in them winding up in the array just as it was activated on its own. Or, 3 potential points in the past wangxian could have landed at during the war and the 1 time they landed even earlier Kay's comments: Something a little different from beloved author glitteringmoonlight. Here we have three different possible time travel canon divergence points and I really loved it. All three of them are really good points where the story could have diverged significantly! Excerpt: “As for my heart—” the younger Wei Ying is saying in one moment, face cold and hard, an utterly displeased expression directed at Lan Wangji, and the next moment, the older Wei Ying is tipping forward into his husband’s arms, Lan Wangji catching him instinctively. “Wei Ying?” Lan Wangji calls, trying to ascertain if his husband is alright. For one excruciating moment, a worrying thought occurs to him— what if his Wei Ying had landed in the body of the Mo Xuanyu of this time instead of his own?— but that would not explain him stumbling forward, nor how content he seems to be to be caught in Lan Wangji’s arms. The Wei Ying of this time would not have let such a thing happen. Wei Ying looks up at Lan Wangji and grins brightly— the sight entirely different from the cold, distant look he had worn the first time this had happened, the look his younger self had worn moments ago— and Lan Wangji’s worry is assuaged immediately. There is no doubt that this is his Wei Ying. His face, pale and sharp as it had become in the months he had been in the Burial Mounds, seems to fill with new vigour. He makes no effort to untangle himself from Lan Wangji. “As for my heart,” Wei Ying repeats, but his tone is warm and affectionate, as opposed to the angry, mocking tone he had used before, “Who could know it better than Lan-er-gege?”

Your email address will be listed on that page, next to “Current email”

If you are not logged in:

Check your email account for recent emails from AO3, such as subscription notifications or kudos and comment emails.

Look at the “To:” field to see what email address is associated with your account.

You will need to enter this email address exactly as it is listed here in order to receive a password reset email.

How do I change my email address? What if I don't have access to my old email address?

You don't need access to your old email address to change it to a new one, as long as you also know your current password.

Log in

The Wedding of the Great Demon: Deleted Scenes

As promised, here are a few deleted scenes from my most recent fic (and first Fangs of Fortune fic), The Wedding of the Great Demon! These are all from the second chapter; the first one came together pretty seamlessly on the first try.

This first exchange was my first attempt at transitioning between the pre-sex banter and the first kiss; I really got a kick out of some of these lines, and I liked the beat of Zhuo Yichen am-I-just-here-for-sex insecurity (and Zhao Yuanzhou assuaging it), but the sex scene here is already balancing a bunch of different zings* (e.g., the ZYC inexperience zing, the rough yao sex zing, the possessiveness/claiming zing), and adding a "ZYC worries he's just here for sex" zing was really too much, so I set this version aside and started over with what ended up in the final version. (*"zing" used here in the sense in which it is used in Resonant's invaluable How to Write a Sex Scene.)

“Did you just come here to insult me, Xiao Zhuo?” Zhao Yuanzhou asks, feigning injury.

“What if I did?” Zhuo Yichen throws back. It almost sounds like their usual banter. But not quite. Looking away, avoiding Zhao Yuanzhou’s gaze, Zhuo Yichen says, more quietly, “Would that be—or am I… is this just…”

Zhao Yuanzhou steps closer. “If you’d rather mock me than have your way with me,” says Zhao Yuanzhou, “then I’d say only that there’s no accounting for taste.”

Zhuo Yichen smiles – it looks like it’s against his will.

“Xiao Zhuo. Won’t you kiss me?”

“I thought I wasn’t any good at it,” Zhuo Yichen sniffs. But he’s walking toward Zhao Yuanzhou when he says it.

“You aren’t,” Zhao Yuanzhou says peaceably, enjoying Zhuo Yichen’s outraged response. He reels Zhuo Yichen in by his arm until they’re front-to-front. “So let me teach you,” he murmurs.

This next exchange would have come after a bit of dialogue in the sex scene where Zhao Yuanzhou asks Zhuo Yichen what he wants to do:

“I thought about it,” Zhuo Yichen says, low. “I felt like a monster for it, but I couldn’t stop. When I was searching for you – when I was sitting there for a hundred years next to this piece of paper that was your promise to give yourself to someone else, I—I don’t know why. To torture myself, maybe.”

“Xiao Zhuo,” whispers Zhao Yuanzhou, aching.

All of his discomfort and shyness seems to be gone; he’s looking at Zhao Yuanzhou, single-minded. “Is it too much?” he asks, in apparent earnest. “To want to—”

“To what?”

“To claim you. To make you mine, too.”

I liked that insight into what was going on in Zhuo Yichen's head in the sundial, but I ended up cutting the preceding bit of dialogue and then it didn't make sense to keep this in, either.

The next bit would have come directly post-orgasm:

A part of Zhao Yuanzhou would like to stay that way forever—one benefit of being yao is that they can, never needing food or drink, living off of one another’s touch—but someone precious is waiting for them. And she’s probably turned into a prune by now.

“Xiao Zhuo,” whispers Zhao Yuanzhou, reaching up to trace one finger along an alluring streak of white in Zhuo Yichen’s hair, fallen over his shoulder. “Xiao Zhuo, wake up.”

Zhuo Yichen glares as he heaves himself off of Zhao Yuanzhou and onto his back. “I wasn’t asleep,” he huffs. Then he does a double-take. “You look…”

Zhao Yuanzhou poses. “Like a dream?”

“Gory,” Zhuo Yichen says, rolling his eyes. “Wipe that up before you get blood all over Wen Xiao’s bed.”

That was from a time when I was going to have Wen Xiao point out that Zhuo Yichen and Zhao Yuanzhou had gotten Wilderness-married, as below:

“If you didn’t want to share a marriage bed with my husband, you shouldn’t have married him yourself,” she says, and she taps her finger in the center of Zhuo Yichen’s lower lip, where a patch of their mingled blood has left a stain.

Zhao Yuanzhou blinks. Then he smiles.

Yes. Ah, yes. He’s old enough to remember when a Wilderness wedding wasn’t a matter of a polite knifeprick to the finger. When it was a matter of fangs, and claws. But either way, the end is the same: your blood on their mouth, their blood on yours. Simple as that.

With that realization, he turns to Zhuo Yichen, eyes artfully wide. “Xiao Zhuo, how could you. No auspicious date? No betrothal gifts? No dowry? After all your talk of justice—”

“Shut up,” Zhuo Yichen snaps, marching back toward the bed. “As if I’d pay a single coin for you.”

😂 It hurt me to cut that last line, which I think is so Zhuo Yichen, but it quickly became apparent that Zhao Yuanzhou and Zhuo Yichen's married-ness was something they needed to sort out between the two of them.

The Ottawa Centaurs franchise takes part at a local pride event and Harris makes it clear that attendance is not optional, not when they are literally the queerest team in the MHL and he looks at Shane in particular. Because, while Shane is at peace with being gay and supports the importance of queer rights and representation, he still doesn't like being reduced to his sexuality in the eyes of the public.

Of course they all attend, and, as per usual, Shane and Ilya stick together as close as humanly possible all the time, but at some point they do get seperated for a moment as they get called to sign rainbow jerseys and take pictures with kids.

Ilya starts looking for his husband - he gets fidgety like a chihuahua with seperation anxiety when Shane is out of sight for too long, a fact that he conveniently avoids talking about in therapy, as he knows that Shane is not much better, so obviously they are both perfectly fine and well adjusted.

Anyway, he spots Shanes scribbeling something as he is standing next to a participation wall that is covered in colourful sticky notes where people write their thoughts for the question that is printed in big letters on the top: "What makes you Proud?"

Ilya's immediately sprints over to Shane because that is NOT the time and place for his sweet and lovely husband to write "being a olympic gold medalist, world champion and four times stanley cup winner :)"

He reaches the wall, just as Shane is ready to turn around and leave; a big smile hits Ilya like a ray on sunshine as Shane spots him.

"Solnyshko", Ilya wraps his arm around Shane's waist and presses his forehead against Shane's, allowing himself a moment to revel in the relief of having his Shane back, before turning them both back towards the wall. "What did you write?", Ilya asks and carefully trying for a carefree tone.

From the side, he can see a blush creeping up Shane's cheeks and he looks so cute, flushed and freckled and Ilya wants to eat him up and- omg Rozanov get it together, Shane being so pretty really fucks with your concentration.

"You know, just the normal stuff", Shane mumbles and tries to turn around, but Ilya presses his body even closer to his side - not that Shane fights against him really hard.

Ilya scans the wall, taking in the heartwarming messages of people being proud of being out and happy and living their best lives, of finding joy in their communities, of embracing their identities, of finally being comfortable in their bodies, of fighting for their rights and through hardships, of celebrating life and joy. And all this joy is so much and wonderful and it makes Ilya's knees wobbly and he is once again very lucky to have Shane to lean on.

And then, right under the "What makes you Proud?" print Ilya spots that purple sticky note, covered in chicken scratch. Obviously the author tried very hard to write neatly on this one, but still, it's unmistakably Shane's writing.

Ilya's breath catches as he reads: "My husband. The strongest and kindest and funniest person I know. Who takes care others and of himself, every day. Who loves life and makes mine so much better. I love him."

Ilya reaches for Shane's hand. It is barely Shakespeare, but the sheer earnestness of Shane's note make him feel like being checked into the boards, his knees really are close to give up now, his fingers seeking purchase in Shane's flesh it must be painful and he let's himself be hold by Shane's solid and warm body.

Of course he knows that Shane loves him, he tells Ilya every day, and he knows that Shane is proud of Ilya for going to therapy, for being a good captain... but reading it, here, and for everyone to see?

No, Ilya does NOT want to cry about it, not before he's got his mouth on Shane's cock and then fuck them both to tears afterwards.

For now he presses his nose in Shane's hair and whispers: "Kindest person? Seriously? What have I have done to be insulted like this, Lyubimyy?"

"What the fuck, Ilya?" Shane's face scrunches up in that adorable way that makes it hard for Ilya to suppress a smile.

"No it's true, ask entire league. They all say I'm biggest asshole. I worked very hard for that reputation."

"Oh don't worry, you earn that." Shane huffs.

"See, even my husband agrees."

Then Shane turns his head around just enough to eye Ilya with this open, soft glance of his and Ilya knows already his heart will give up. "Yes, you are the biggest asshole, but you also have the biggest heart. And I'm very proud of you, baby."

No need to say, Ilya and Shane disappeared pretty quickly from that event afterwards, but not after Ilya snapped a pic of the wall with all the sticky notes.
