Things have stalled out a bit for now. I'm currently going through quite a lot life wise and I haven't had the resources to put toward the book. I'm hoping to get back on track with it, but I honestly couldn't say when.

Hello! Unfortunately I don't have any news and I've not moved forward any. This last year has been incredibly rough for me and I've had to focus all of my time and energy on managing it to the best of my ability. Hello! Just stopping by with a question about writing XD Do you have any characters who's role grew bigger than you expected? Any surprising changes your characters went through during the writing process?

I actually have quite a lot of characters like that! A lot of this series started off unrelated so having linked them together made for a lot of interesting things happening. But I think for Carpe alone, I'd have to say Trish.

There's also a few really minor characters that could apply to.

I think in terms of surprising changes, probably Ransom. I've changed that man so much over the years and I've never expected a single one of them. I've changed his name probably three times? And his background at least twice. Definitely his arc too. Oh my God.

Following on from that last question you answered, which character has changed the least?

Tom, hands down. He's been almost the exact same since I made him lol. I can't think of anything I've changed about him since inception, he just worked out super well.

Xinghua: I think I remember some of the ambulance ride.

Frost: We didn't call an ambulance, I drove you.

Xinghua: Then why did I hear sirens?

Trish: That was me.

Xinghua: ....

I am endlessly curious about the process behind your work, so here's a question! Which character changed most from how you first imagined them, or surprised you most during the course of writing the book?

This book has been in production for quite a long time, so almost all of the characters have changed significantly since their inception. But I think I would have to say that Trish has changed the most! She's changed builds, ethnicities, and personality since she was inspired by someone I know.

The one who surprised me most however has been Time since they were not originally a part of this story. They're a character from a LOT further down the road, but given their powerset I could find some room for them.

Dumber question but what does sieze the night means? (I'm not English)

Not a dumb question at all!

I actually chose this title due to the more popular phrase "Seize the Day" or "Carpe Diem". Carpe Diem means making the most of the time you have each and every day. With the inversion of the title to "Carpe Noctem" I'm not only referencing that, but I'm twisting it to mean something a little darker. Seize the Night implies that you should take advantage of darker avenues, and chances that might not be available in the light of day. This statement could be about the main character Xinghua, but it was actually intended to reference another character. And for a series about vampires, it seemed to fit nicely!

Hello there! Just stopping by with a writing question for you. What do you think has improved the most in your writing since you started?

Definitely my descriptions of scenery! I don't like describing scenery, and I have a hard time visualizing it so I used to just skip it entirely. I've worked on slowing down and thinking about how to explain what vibe a setting gives me quite a lot!

In honour of it being National Cinema Day in the UK tomorrow, do you have a dream casting if your work was going to be filmed? And would you prefer live-action or animated?

For this series I actually would like to see it in a few forms of media! Each part is formatted differently in my head and would be best, I think, in its intended style which includes animation and comics!

Carpe Noctem specifically I wrote with a movie in mind, and I do very much have a dream cast for it!

Xinghua would be played by Nana Komatsu

Ransom would be played by Pedro Pascal

Tom would be played by Matt Bomer

Frost would be played by Christian Yu

The others I'm not as picky on, but for the main cast I have Opinions.

Random ask for WIP rambles time! If the cast of Carpe Noctem could meet one character from anotherseries/media/story each, who would they want to meet?

Oooooh this is a fun one!

Xinghua would want to meet either Celine from the Underworld series, or Bayonetta mostly because she's really gay and wants those women to step on her throat.

Ransom is a dork and he'd want to meet either Columbo or Grisham from the OG CSI.

Frost shouldn't be allowed this one but he'd want to meet Dante from Devil May Cry. He just thinks hes neat.

Trish would actually kill a man to meet the Demon Slayer cast. Or the Fruits Basket cast.

Ziggy would want to meet the actual Ziggy Stardust, from the Man Who Fell To Earth movie.

Tom would probably like to meet Andrew Ryan and Dr. Suchong of Bioshock.

Bonus Convenience Store Witches:

Seven CAN meet anyone he wants to, and for the most part HAS so I'll highlight the ones he'd like to meet again. Naruto, because they can match energy, and Sephiroth because they ALSO can match energy.

Eleven really wants to meet Snoop Dogg. Who, while not fictional, is enough of a legend to transcend into being meta?? He will, one day, but he thinks it'd be nice to meet him before then.

I'm just a very unlucky person leading a difficult life. Some times are more difficult than others and the last couple of years have been those kinds. It'll get better eventually, I just have to keep pressing forward and taking any opportunities that present themselves to me!
