A desperate hug.
(Based on the Birdritch fic.)
Just a totally normal birb.
Nothing wrong here.
Nope.
Just a bird doing bird things.
Hmmmm. (Checks my Sibley Guide to Birds) This seems to be... more legs... than most birds have...
HMMMMMM.
W-wha... what extra legs?

“lol Arthur Conan Doyle clearly didn’t know anything about drugs. Sherlock Holmes did cocaine but it calmed him down. That’s not how cocaine works!”
There are two options: Arthur Conan Doyle had never met someone addicted to cocaine or he met some with ADHD who was addicted to cocaine
#you cannot convince me sherlock 'i don't see a use for this common knowledge i shall forget it immediately' holmes wasn't adhd as hell #sherlock 'if i have nothing to do for a day i will literally start shooting the walls out of boredom' holmes #sherlock 'i have built a perfect wax replica of myself - why? iunno' holmes
He specifically took drugs when he didn't have a case to occupy himself, that man was ADHD as fuck
ACD was a practicing doctor and ship's surgeon during the period where cocaine was routinely used as medicine and described by medical journals as "the blessed instrument of Christ," so not only is there exactly zero chance that he'd never met anyone addicted to cocaine, he also almost certainly administered cocaine to people.
It's also definitely not a stretch at all to say he'd probably met people who self-medicated with cocaine to deal with what we'd now call ADHD. Like, the second ever Sherlock Holmes story begins with Watson protesting Holmes' overuse of cocaine, and Holmes replying that he needs it to deal with his overactive brain -- it's entirely plausible that ACD had had that exact conversation with someone or multiple someones.
Like, the man had been a ship's surgeon. On a whaling ship. The number one place in Victorian times to find men who either couldn't get or couldn't hold down work elsewhere. He was almost certainly extremely familiar with a pretty broad spectrum of neurodivergence and self-medication thereof, even if medical science didn't yet have the terminology to apply to it.
Not only did ACD probably have this conversation with someone in real life, he clearly knew and understood how dangerous cocaine was.
At a time when cocaine was regularly administered by other doctors, Doyle wrote Watson to have a clear aversion and dislike of the drug and understood that it was bad for you. It’s written as a clear indication that Sherlock, despite all his brilliance and genius, is still a human being who can make very bad decisions for himself.
Not only that, but Watson does ultimately win and gets Sherlock off of his addition to cocaine in the end. It takes him a while, but Sherlock is weened off the drug and this is seen as a good thing for everyone involved. In fact in a later story Watson comes home and sees a needle and fears that Sherlock might’ve had a relapse (he didn’t, the needle was just being used for something else involving a case).
Doyle knew what he was doing. He wasn’t writing it as an endorsement or as an indication that Sherlock knew better than Watson. It’s made very clear in the books that Sherlock is highly limited in a lot of ways that Watson is not. Watson was a skilled physician and both he and ACD knew cocaine was not good for someone like Holmes.
Conan Doyle was hyperfixated on history and very mad his excited infodumping historical fiction didn't get the attention the Holmes stories did. He wrote bestselling serialized novels and short stories (that all tend to follow a specific structure) while full time practicing medicine, and by all accounts had a Holmes-like way of Noticing Fucking Everything.
He had a clear disdain for social convention while understanding deeply how to conform to it in order to survive; a lot of Holmes' deductions actually depend on assumptions about typical human behavior in a given situation rather than physical evidence alone. It's the kind of encyclopedic conscious knowledge of unwritten social rules you might develop in order to mask successfully.
He was almost certainly neurodivergent himself. There's a reason classic Holmes fans tend to be Like That. Game recognize game.

the meaning of life? is to make your bedroom as comfy as possible. that's it that's the purpose
the secondary purpose is to equip your kitchen and get really really really into international cuisine

I do find it funny how Jason fans are expected to hate on him, compared to like...most other fans of characters. And I'm not saying this is Jason-specific by any means, it's just something I've noticed.
We can't say we like Jason without condemning his actions. We can't say we like Jason without saying that he was one of the worst Robins and Tim was wayyyy better. We can't say we like Jason without thinking he should be punished for his crimes.
And like...buddy, I like Jason because he's committed crimes. Tf do you mean I have to sit there and laugh and be like 'oh yeah I like Jason but (character) is so much better at the job and (character) should be allowed to hit him and Jaybin sucked actually and Jason is a monster for doing this stuff to (character) and yeah I agree he's a fraud'???
Like jfc god forbid I like a guy for being a bit of an asshole. God forbid I like a character who does dodgy stuff and admits his grey morality. God forbid I like a guy without sanitising what he did or putting up a disclaimer that I think what he did was bad. God forbid I have fun with my own fucking opinions. Why do I have to comfort others for liking a character who isn't their favourite, who is someone they dislike or hate, who they for some reason have labelled a fraud? Why do I have to laugh and say he has no good comics just to follow the popular opinion???
Again, none of this is Jason specific. He just seems to get it the most out of all of the Robins; especially Jaybin, because apparently me thinking Jaybin is a great Robin means I'm a larper or a fraud or delusional or whatever. Sorry I like a silly whimsical kid whose slow descent into a terrible outcome makes me emotional ig
Anyway. I will never apologise for liking Jason or his comics. Ever.
so the synopsis of The Ring is: you will die 7 days after watching this videotape. my question is does that apply to rewatching the tape. let's say I watch the tape, wait 6 days, and watch it again. does the timer reset to 7 days? can I do this indefinitely? can I become functionally immortal by watching the evil videotape on a weekly basis?
I require the film where someone decides this means they are functionally immortal for 6 days after watching the tape so seeks it out before going on a series of utterly batshit suicide missions. The tape keeps trying to do creepy crap around them and they're just like "I have 3 days 12 hours left to do this prison break so you're not even on my top 10 concerns, either distract this guard for me or go do something about that hair while you're waiting"
The ghost is so baffled and has no idea how to explain that's not how any of this works that it does save them a couple times while trying to get this across, thus convincing them the theory has been validated
they are sitting and pondering
Dp x Dc Prompt - Strongest soldiers
Lois knows it. You know it. She is simply THE reporter. Even in a man's world she was the best at what she does. No one could replace her even if they tried.
There was plenty of ruthless competition but they were either too pushy with their clients, not well connected or straight liars. She knew damn well that the liars were simply people getting paid to spread defamation. And god does she hate that.
There was one in particular that was really bad. One of the first ever heroes, Red Huntress. A woman in a male dominated field. In that she would praise the hell out of her.
Yet there was little to almost no coverage on her. The only time anyone even mentioned her was because her cape partner Phantom would praise her to death. Yet that was it.
No one had gotten an interview with her. There were no accurate intel on her aside from some blogs that recorded her earlier days into her career. Everything else was pure fan theories or straight damaging rumors with no evidence.
Perhaps the huntress didn't care. But Lois sure did. She made it her mission to write a piece on the heroine.
Getting a hold of her wasn't easy though. Even being as well connected as she was after doing this for so long. Contact with anyone from Amity Park, the hometown, was like calling a ghost town.
Lois decided to take the trip instead. Modern tech made life easy but to her, this wasn't meant to be easy. Putting in the work the old fashion way was the goal.
Her best friend Clark had some thoughts but she shut them all down. Yes superman wasn't exactly allowed in that area. The local heroes sworn him off or something to that extent. So if something were to happen she was on her own.
Lois found it hilarious. As if she wasn't a grown woman doing dangerous stuff since forever. Laughable. She reassured him that she would be fine, though she didn't promise him that she would stay out of trouble.
When she arrived. Let's just say she was attacked immediately. She definitely didn't ignore all the warning signs that the locals told her about. Of course not, that would be utterly ridiculous.
"And you are on crazy lady." Lois found herself happily in the arms of her very annoyed target.
"Am I?"
"For jumping into a banshee storm? Willingly? Yes."

They closed the portal. Amity Park stopped getting ghost attacks. Vlad and Danny's parents did not take it well, but they handled that too.
Until they realised it was keeping Danny from fulfilling his Obsession to Protect.
It affected his concentration first, his health second.
But he still refused to re-open the portal. Inflicting harm on the people he's sworn to guard for his own needs is anathema to the fulfillment of his Obsession.
Jazz suggests he divert his attention to another core part of himself.
His love for the cosmos.
Danny starts going on space expeditions in Phantom form.
He goes to Mars and brings back samples. Pokes around Saturn's rings. Takes a nap on Pluto.
It helps tremendously.
Until he starts leaving the solar system altogether. He meets new alien forms, makes groundbreaking discoveries he cannot share in a scientific journal.
It's wonderful. That's the problem.
Space as an Obsession is all-consuming.
When Danny thinks of getting back home to check on his friends and turn back into a human, decades have passed.
Danny does not grow while he is in ghost form. He still looks like a teenager. His friends are middle-aged.
His parents are dead.
And his human form is different. As his ghost form has accommodated his Obsession by developing space-related powers, his human body has adopted the traits of the alien forms he has encountered. They are subtle, but in a dimension where he is the only hero of Earth, they unmistakably mark him as other.
He makes a portal to the Ghost Zone and begs Clockwork to send him back so he can return to his friends and family.
Clockwork congratulates him on taking the first steps to becoming the Ancient of Space.
"I cannot give you back the decades you lost, because even sent back to the past you will be stuck in the same dilemma. You cannot stay grounded on Earth without acting as a guardian spirit, and space makes you forget your anchors to mortal life. What you need is to fulfill both."
"How?"
"In a dimension close to this one is a world of heroes you would thrive in. In that world, an organisation called the Justice League was founded to protect their Earth and galaxy from all who would seek to threaten them. Lend them a hand, and you will fulfill both of your Obsessions as well as grow in your role of Ancient. For every year you do so, I will give you three days, six hours and five minutes to spend with your loved ones in the past."
"What do you get in return?"
Clockwork tilted his head.
"I do not think you realise how dangerous the malleability of a halfa's Obsession is. If you start forcusing on the time you have lost too much, you risk developing powers that will let you unravel the timeline, to devastating consequences. I will do all I can to steer you in a better decision, both for your sake and this world's."
