could be shady could be too woke but idk as ive gotten older and lived more in the current climate the constant babygirling of a certain antagonistic inspector who caused harm to a lot of people in his narrative as a result of a corrupt system (dont talk to me about his complexities i know half of yall haven’t read the brick half as many times as i have) and is notably so corrupt his only salvation is death is super stupid and makes me think that nobody actually likes the source material they like old man gooning.

another les mis and the pitt: characters i see in the other (aka to many thoughts not enough grammar)

- Starting with the obvious to me, Doctor Robby and Enjolras. I hear you say, Valjean? Nope. Not even a little bit. Doctor Robby having moments of intense wisdom and care remind me more of an Enjolras, because at the drop of a pin he can snap and that wisdom and care turns from a rose to a thorn. He’s angry. Both of them. Angry at a system they’re supposed to exist in. Gloria. The government. Both of them quite literally watching people die due to negligence, and doing God, all they fucking can to save them. Having these beautiful moments where they seem so holy, so caring, so beautiful when they use soft eyes and kind words. But when that doesn’t work?

See rambling post I did some time ago. Care, kindness, goodness-it’s the entire range of emotions. It makes you kind and it makes you cruel. You do things you don’t want to do and see things you don’t want to see. But you do. Because you are the only one who can. Heavy is the head.

-Dana/Combeferre: Besides the obvious parallels. Strong. Dependent. A worthy leader, clearer minded and focused, the water to Robby/Enj fire. The term right hand man incarnate. Soul tied-trauma bonded-two do not seperate the set. But Dana-for all her peace keeping and wisdom-god she gets tired. She has a strength-a steadiness, a buoy for those who need it. And then?

God. What for?

Combeferre is more fanon to me, but Victor Hugo is dead and as his self appointed reincarnation? Tell me that isn’t Combeferre at the end. What for?

doctor robby and enjolras and something about righteous human goodness taking on a terrifying range of emotions where you can be so sympathetic and understanding and be such a paragon of support and beauty and then the next you snap and show a parent the morgue of shooting victims where the girl you couldnt save is lying or putting a bullet point blank into somebody’s head for being scared and shooting like you did but the difference if you aren’t doing it because you want to but because that man killed an innocent “im an asshole who’s trying to save your son’s life” and you’re watching everything you’ve been leading for so long crumble around you and you know that its a failing on your part because these are your friends or your staff but it doesn’t matter because the love and fear and anger are there and all thats seen is the anger because nobody fucking listens to you when you know what your doing but everyone else has the ulterior motives-

i can go on and on about the pitt plus les mis similar themes archtypes plot points its gritty and gruesome and these people just doing what they can and they fail and they don’t and they die and they don’t and whether they deserve it or not time is a circle and we’re all just orbiting each other until something happens

"the people have not risen" and enjolras feels sick and he clenches his fists to stop them from shaking and he swallows back bile because theyre all going to die here oh god oh god- and its all of his friends shit all of his family and he can't do anything to stop it he can only watch as bang ferre is gone bang courf is gone bang bang bang joly, bahorel, feuilly and he can't hear anymore gunshots over the screaming and he isnt sure if its him or the others or both or just in his head and then there's guns pointing at his head nad he's going to die he's going to die and he never even got to say goodbye to his best friends and Grantaire walks in and Grantaire is scared and Enjolras is scared too and they hold eachother's hands tight like it will make it hurt less and it doesnt but at least when he dies he isn't scared and in pain and alone, he's scared and in pain and with grantaire
