Prepare for the unexpected. (DPxDC)
Everyone knew about the reign of Pariah Dark. Even those who did not dabble in those realms have heard the tale of the tyrant. A power-hungry man who ruled over the dead with an iron fist.
Following the rise of Pariah Dark, his realm had been effectively cut off from communication. Many mystics and magic users knew better than to open the door of nightmares that could arise if Pariah Dark's reach went further than his own realm.
Except, the universe had plans to bring the realm of the dead back into the cards.
A bunch of doodles of THIS SPOOKY PHANTOM DESIGN!! So very inspired from the fic You wouldn’t like me alive, by @ectoplasmranch
I love the idea of a lightning core too!?!? IT MAKES SENSE AND ITS SO COOL!!
Halfas actually do have lairs, but as they are only Halfas, they don't know how to find them.
Vlad has one, Dani has one, Dan has one, and Danny has one. Danny and Dans are separate, and out of all the Halfas only Dan knows where his is.
After all, for a period of time, he was a full on ghost.
Dan and other ghosts warn Danny and Dani that when they find their lairs, they'll have to start from the ground up. The door is the first stage, and when a lair gets big enough it can expand beyond the door. However, the ghost must build the home in their lair. The door opens to an island floating in a void, but it's up to the ghost who owns it to build the "house" so to speak.
Walkers had started out as a replica of his Office from his life, and then grown into the massive prison Danny had been trapped in. Skulker's had started out as a small hut in a jungle, and grown into the fortress he kept all his "prizes".
One day, Danny is exploring the Ghost Zone when he comes across a door that he knows, beyond the shadow of a doubt, is his.
It's on someone else's lair, weirdly enough, but that door belongs to Danny.
He opens the door, expecting the lair to be unkempt or wild, something he'll have to work on as a fixer upper, but...it's orderly. It's not what he could have or would have expected.
It's a field in permanent night, with the Aurora Borealis shining down and illuminating the ghostly mimicry of plants below it. There's...there's a house? It looks old fashioned.
He wanders in, and there's little bits and bobs lining hand-made shelves.
It's a small cabin, decorated with various random stuff loosely related to space. There's stars notched into the wooden ceiling rafters, the bed posts are carved to look sort of like rockets, like whoever had done it wasn't too sure how to work with ecto yet.
He leaves the cabin and takes stock of the island, looking closer.
It looks like there's...a field? There's a field of some kind.
He flies closer, and realizes it's not a field. It's some kind of orchard? The trees being grown are a ghostly mimicry of Weeping Willows on one side and apple trees on the other.
He recognizes an attempt to breed a new kind of plant when he sees it thanks to Sam, and lands to walk in further.
The Weeping Willows get younger the further he goes in, and start to look very different. Their leaves start to glow at the tips, become speckled with spashes of purple and blue, and by the time he gets to the youngest one, it looks like a tree made of space.
The apple trees, too, were the result of someone's experiments. The youngest apple tree that's bearing fruit? Those apples are clear, like glass, with little glowing seeds in them, like a little glass ball with a fake galaxy in the center.
Someone, obviously, has not only been walking in and out of Danny's lair, but has been taking care of it. They've been preparing it for Danny, and they've done a pretty damn good job.
But who?
~~~~~~
When John Kent Sr died, he'd known immediately where his "lair" was. Naturally, after finding the door and preparing the land for planting, he decided to take a break by introducing himself to his neighbors.
But he only had one.
A flimsy purple door was next to his, and when he opened it, the land behind it was wild; an overgrown forest with an untamed clearing full of brambles. There was no one there.
He'd gone back to his own lair, confused. He'd continued altering and bettering his own lair, breaking free of the door's confines and making a fairly large island with a perfect replica of his home in Smallville.
The abandoned door stayed the same. In fact, it didn't move out of his lair's territory. It stayed on his land, a small door to an abandoned lair.
As a full ghost, he knew this wasn't normal. Lairs were supposed to move and give space to an expanding lair; it was one of the many, many ghost facts that any full ghost just knew upon formation.
So he felt bad.
Something was wrong with the lair, or the ghost that owned it.
He spent some time inside of it, tidying up clearing out debris. Took out the bramble patches. Removed some of the ghost plants that weren't looking quite right.
One day, after he'd finished his work on his farm and was heading into the abandoned lair to keep busy, he was stopped by an Ancient.
Not just an Ancient, but the Ancient of Time.
He found out...a lot of stuff. Some right sad stuff.
Thing's that didn't sit well with him.
The abandoned lair wasn't abandoned. It belonged to the ghost of a child with a space obsession. That ghost hadn't been formed right, and didn't know how to find his own lair.
The Ancient assured him that, in time, the little ghost kid would find it, so if he could put up with it on his land until said kid could understand how to move it, that would be much appreciated.
And. Well.
John is a bit of an empty nester.
Knowing that the owner was a kid? A lost one?
The Zone was big, he wouldn't be able to find a kid he didn't even know. Wouldn't know where to begin. He doesn't like that the Ancient clearly does and isn't helping, but that Ancient also promised to help keep the space kid safe.
So John's keep-busy projects got a little...involved.
He built a small cabin. Just a little starter thing so the kid wouldn't have to worry too much about a house; he could add on or get rid of it later.
And, well, the cabin wasn't enough. It needed some sprucing up! John had been a farmer from Kansas in life, and he knows a thing or two about whittling.
So he started carving some space stuff onto the ceiling beams. Carved some rockets on the posts for the bed he'd made from ecto.
Decided to pass the time by making a "welcome home" gift to the kid, but while he could build with ecto, his gift has always been to grow things.
He just...played around with some trees, splicing and breeding the ghostly qualities he wanted.
Tamed that clearing so that it would be safe and fun for a kid to run in.
Just in case, he decided he'd better add another room to the house in his own lair. Cuz, kids sometimes needed places to stay with adults present so they could feel safe. No other reason.
That room, also, was decorated with things about space as well as John could do it.
Then, one day, the door looks far more stable.
John nods to himself, finishes up his chores, and goes to finally greet his neighbor.
Ice is an incredibly poor conductor of electricity
I was working on my Percy Jackson x Danny phantom fic and realized Danny is actually the perfect opponent for Zeus.
He has an ice core. Sooo
Do Cores form based on how they died? Danny was electrocuted so now his core makes sure that can’t happen again???
Idk new fun idea that I was working on.
GHOST CORES
AIGHT I know ghost cores are not exactly 100% canon, we saw Danny's 'ice core' in Urban Jungle but we never got a solid explanation (like everything else with the lore of that universe lmao). Do all ghosts have them? Or are they specific to halfas only? Are they all elemental? Lots of fun questions that the fandom has filled for itself over the years.
I mean I know we can all sense the episode was a "specific concept came first, fit it in the plot second" just to give Danny a new set of powers, specifically ice powers for some reason. That being said I've also noticed that ectoplasm blasts/rays etc seem to have a burning affect so does that mean ghosts with elemental cores are able to produce heated ectoplasm but also whatever their element is? Again tons of fun questions.
ANYWAY what I'm trying to get to here: I've seen a lot of people headcanon Vlad with a fire core bcuz it's more fitting as "an opposite force" to Danny's ice and ofc cool fire effects etc and I've also seen a lot of people headcanon him with an electricity core, which I prefer honestly since it's more canon complacent. We've seen him electrocute Danny on more than one occasion (ow).
Although if you think about it lore-wise, it would be more fitting for Danny to have the electricity core considering his transformation seemed to be triggered by the portal electrocuting him. And for Vlad to have a fire core since the portal uh- burned him right in the face (ow²)?
Oh welp ice is canon for Danny pretty much. So what does the fandom prefer for Vlad?
What kind of Core does Vlad have?
Electricity
Fire
Misunderstandings really really suck
Edit: Part 2 is Up
So heres the deal, it's a normal Vivisection AU where Danny had to run away to Gotham after his parents try to kill him, and let's say that he takes Ellie with him too.
They stay there for a few years and after a while they manage to establish a little life for themselves. Danny is running a small Shop that makes them enough money to live comfortably in the apartment right above his Shop, meanwhile Ellie is going to Gotham Metro Academy on a scholarship because she is really smart and they managed to fake some school records for her when they were making themselves new Identities.
(Side Note: Danny is now 26, while Ellie hasn't started aging yet and still looks 12, but she will begin to soon since she just hit her 12th birthday)
Danny also runs a small Ghost Shop out of his store, just selling small bits of Distilled Ectoplasm or Ecto-Infused Treats to the local Ghosts in return for small favors or help around the shop.
But here's the thing. Ellie is still an unstable Clone, even if they did managed to find a reliable treatment in the form of Ecto-Dejecto. But Danny's parents were the only ones who knew how to make that stuff, and the Ecto-Dejecto they stole all those years ago is beginning to run out.
Danny begins to work tirelessly trying to replicate it, diving full on into his Mad Scientist side to try and find a way to make more ED for Ellie. He manages to make some prototypes, but he is nowhere near confident that they are good enough.
He decides to call in some favors from the local Ghosts. He calls the ones he is confident will survive this and asks them to try out his Ecto Dejecto to see if it will work for Ellie, but he does warn them that there will probably be unexpected side effects that they will probably not like.
The Ghosts agree to do it, because in the years that the Fenton's have lived there they have grown extremely attached to Ellie. She is like a little sister or daughter for many of them, they would throw away their afterlives if it meant helping her.
For most of the samples, the ED doesn't work at all. Some of them work for a single moment before cutting out, others don't do anything, and some have crazy effects that affect them for a little while before disappearing abruptly. One guy turned into a Dog, not the worst outcome but not the intended one. Another began to glow brightly and couldn't turn it off, that one lasted for an hour.
They keep testing them, out in the nearby Alley since they don't want to destroy the house or Danny's makeshift Lab, for a few weeks.
They problem comes when they are spotted one night by Red Hood.
...
Jason was crossing the Rooftops while on Patrol. He was going a little farther than his normal patrol range, since he had the time and he wanted to make sure there was no trouble in the nearby areas either.
As he was about to hop from one rooftop to another, he got a weird feeling. It was strange, he didn't feel anything on his skin, he didn't smell anything, he didn't even hear anything, but he somehow knew that there was something strange happening in the nearby Alley. It was like he could sense it.
Peeking over the edge of the rooftop, he saw a group of about 10 people. It was a bunch of strange looking people with green-ish skin, and one normal looking person. The normal looking one was wearing a lab coat, and seemed to be about 25 yrs old. Jason felt like there was something off about that guy, but he couldn't place exactly what. He was holding a box of something in his hand, and talking to the group.
"Ok guys, I'm really confident this time!" He said, "I think one of these may be the one!"
The man placed the box on a nearby Dumpster and opened it up, taking out a strange glowing green Vial. He handed it to one of the Greenish people and watched as they injected themselves with it.
Jason watched as they began to glow slightly before their arms suddenly grew to be longer than they were tall. The Man in the Lab Coat sighed in discontent, before saying "Ok, not that one. But we still have a few to try out!"
Jason watched as one by one the people below injected themselves with the green Liquid, each of them having some strange phenomenon happen to them before moving on to the next. The strange thing was that none of them seemed to be concerned with the changes, just commenting on it felt before moving on.
Finally, they got to the last person in line. As they injected themselves, Jason felt a sense of Anticipation well up in his gut. He didn't know why, but he felt like this was going to he important.
He was proven right as the Man who had injected himself began to glow brightly. Jason was overwhelmed with the sense of Pure Power coming from him. It was intense, he didn't know how, but he could actually feel the man begin to grow stronger and stronger. The feeling was nearly suffocating, but he managed to regain his senses long enough to hear Lab Coat laugh maniacally. He looked over to see that the entire group was enthusiastically high-fiving and fist-bumping eachother, all cheering at the success.
"Hahaha! Yes! Finally!" Labcoat Cheered, "It's done! Once I make some more, we'll be able to-"
The overwhelming power suddenly cut out. It was so abrupt that even the people below didn't speak for some time. They all just stood on slight shock before Labcoat spoke up, "Ok...ok this is fine. All I need to do is take that formula and find a way to make the effect Permanent. After that we're all set." He said, a thoughtful expression on his face, "I think we'll be good to go within a Week!"
The group of people muttered in agreement, and Labcoat thanked them all for a bit before they all began to walk away. It seemed like the meeting was over.
Jason took a moment to collect himself, before deciding to follow some of the group so he could question them. Unfortunately, everybody he followed disappeared into thin air after a short time.
It occurred to him that he hadn't tried to intervene at all. Usually he would have jumped down and beaten them all black and blue for testing drugs right in front of him, but he didn't this time. Why? He also realized that he should have followed the Lab Coat guy first, not waited until it was his last option. Why did he not go after that guy instantly? Why did he hesitate? Was it something to do with that Ominous Feeling that led him to the meeting in the first place? There was just something about the guy that made Jason feel inexplicably sacred of him.
Either way, he needed to tell the others.
Because from what he had seen, a Mad Scientist had been working with a group of Metahumans to create a Super Soldier Drug right there in Gotham, and they needed to stop them.
i was reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley when I was jotting down notes for the Kindred Spirits part of my diddly darn rewrite, which helped me a lot because it had a lot to do about creators taking responsibility over their creations, and what were the ramifications for something like Dani to exist in society
what i like most about danny being trans is because jack fenton is the most supportive parent ever like he calls danny ‘danny boy’ and ‘son’ in every episode hes in hes proud of his son asdfdskaljhklg
I made some Space!Cloak colour variants that absolutely slap and it would be a crime not to share them. Inspired by the concepts of Void Danny and Space Obsession Danny that I’ve seen floating around~
DannyMay Day 6 - Core
I love fanon theories about Vlad having a fire ghost core. His colour palette is also very pleasing to work with :)
