It's International Women's Day! We celebrate all the girls who like glitter and the girls who like dirt, and the little tiniest girls who want to be cosmonauts and the 65 year old girls who are going back to school. The girls who wear makeup, and the ones who wear helmets, and for the girls who wear nothing at all. Today we celebrate all the world-dominating Kardashians who make us feel a lot of feelings about our own face and lips and ass but aren't afraid to make a dolla. We celebrate Gloria Steinem and her anatomic jewelry and all the trail blazers who have whispered in our daughter's ears: "don't be just one thing". We celebrate the fathers who have raised daughters, especially during their teenage years. And the brothers that pulled their sister's hair because hell hath no fury like young siblings. And for the moms and dads who raised intelligent and compassionate men and the parents who taught their daughters to be tough. International Women's Day is more than anything, a celebration of same-ness. We're all humans, with different fleshy branches and nooks. Some are stronger, some are smarter, some are prettier and some are terrible. We hope you call your mom today, and your dad and your brother and your sister, because everyone is fighting a big fight out there and it's hard. The women in your life haven't had it easy. They've lived through periods, and baffling tampons, intimidation, childbirth and statistically speaking, probably abuse. But the men haven't had it easy either. Because no one's off the hook in this life. No one gets a free ride, and the most we can do is treat everyone equally. Give everyone the same shot. The same pay. The same choices.
