People, especially games, get eldritch madness wrong a lot and it’s really such a shame.

An ant doesn’t start babbling when they see a circuit board. They find it strange, to them it is a landscape of strange angles and humming monoliths. They may be scared, but that is not madness.

Madness comes when the ant, for a moment, can see as a human does.

It understands those markings are words, symbols with meaning, like a pheromone but infinitely more complex. It can travel unimaginable distances, to lands unlike anything it has seen before. It knows of mirth, embarrassment, love, concepts unimaginable before this moment, and then…

It’s an ant again.

Echoes of things it cannot comprehend swirl around its mind. It cannot make use of this knowledge, but it still remembers. How is it supposed to return to its life? The more the ant saw the harder it is for it to forget. It needs to see it again, understand again. It will do anything to show others, to show itself, nothing else in this tiny world matters.

This is madness.

People say 'tanked' like they assume d3rlord's head not popping like a rotten grape was him overcoming the knowledge, but The King in Yellow doesn't roll like that. His madness comes in the form of paranoia, delusions, and sometimes agression. Sometimes it's fast, sometimes its slow. Sometimes the King's agents stalk you after exposure, sometimes they stalk you before you're going to be exposed, so they can strike when the time is right. In the end, however, it's all the same. Your lost soul is bound to Carcosa, now and forever.

Now, I will admit it probably took some impressive willpower to try and warn the next guy coming so shortly after getting exposed, but trying to leverage future knowledge against the eldritch omniscient entity you gained that knowledge from... Seems like a loosing prospect. The ant might understand a computer for a brief moment, but it's got no hope of using it.

Okay but if you made a Zelda game what would it be like? Pitch that shiz.

Alright here’s features I would love in the next one

1.) Keep the open world aspect, but add difficultly areas that would be easier to traverse with particular item

2.) Elemental Temples with classic puzzle solving, at least 6-8 of them, can be cleared in any order, but story progression is triggered by each temple cleared, nothing story wise gets repeated to you.

3.) Bring the arsenal of items back, clawshot/hookshot can be used to give you a head start in climbing, multi-set of bombs for specific regions or climates. Digging claws to go through soft soil. Diving gear to explore river or ocean depths.

4.) Stamina in the overworld is treated by Elden ring or Wuwa rules, it only triggers when in Combat, scaling a wall, or using glider. Running around the world passively doesn’t trigger it.

5.) Mixture of the green tunic with the style choices Breath and Tears brought with it for his default attire

6.) Pieces of heart back, and recovery hearts in the overworld. Food is limited to by a hunger meter, once Link is full, you’re on a cooldown from using dishes.

7.) Weapon durability overhaul, rusty or basic weapons will shatter on use, unique ones require a challenge to find, don’t permanently break, and can be repaired by either Link or Blacksmith.

I would introduce a pocket watch that can act as recall and/or stasis, or even prince of Persia logic where it’s tied to the player to reverse their own mistakes or solve short timed puzzles in dungeons.

Author won't stop glazing their special interests.

Author mentions in an author's note that a seemingly major aspect is actually not relevant to the story and just there 'because it's cool'

Author let their politics slip

Overly melodramatic

Lacking melodrama in scenes where it really should be there

Characters will not stop quoting poetry (dishonorable mention goes to the one fanfic where the MC bravely stands up to their bully by triumphantly reciting the entirety of The Law of The Jungle to their face)

Power-scaling

Crossover fanfic was written purely out of dislike for one of the crossed-over series

Betrayal plots that only make sense if you irrationally hate the 'betraying' characters

Author writes Deadpool using nothing but 2000s-era 'lolrandumb' jokes
