Emperor Moths (Saturnia pavonia)
The Emperor Moth is one of the largest moths to be found in the UK. The male (pictured) is the smaller of the two sexes and displays gorgeous warm colours of brown and orange compared to the grey-blue tones of the female. Although fairly common in Britain, I haven’t come across one myself and so wanted to honour a drawing to this species and hope others will fall in love with their regal splendor as much as I have.
I may enhance this piece later with gold leaf but for now it will be left as it is.
Pen & watercolour.
Black Witch Moth! The species I was looking forward to painting the most. Hoping to see one in real life some day. Available as prints and on t-shirts and more https://society6.com/product/black-witch-moth835176_print#s6-7827984p4a1v45
