right after glinda announces the engagement, fiyero walks off to go "fetch a refreshment." obviously, we know that he's definitely not doing that, and i think that would be a perfect time to give fiyero his own song.
it would be on his thoughts of his forced engagement/marriage with glinda, his struggle and desire to find elphaba (his real love) and make sure she's safe, and also his conflicting feelings on the current political climate of Oz.
This post might get me flack but I don’t care. Cynthia Erivo not being nominated for a Critics Choice Award is everything that is wrong with Wicked For Good. Jon M Chu took everything that Stephen Schwartz did wrong (expanding Glinda’s role for Kristin Chenoweth) and doubled down on it for Ariana Grande.
People keep saying Wicked isn’t Elphaba’s story, but Glinda’s because it’s her flashback, and so she deserves to have more screen time. But the musical isn’t called Good. It’s called Wicked for a reason. It is Elphaba’s story. She is the protagonist. If anything Glinda is a foil character.
Originally she had the same storyline as her novel counterpart. She was a a friend from school who disappeared after the first act to focus on FIYERO and Elphaba’s relationship (like the novel). That’s why the original poster was off the Scarecrow and Elphaba.
(Don’t get me started on how Fiyero has been completely robbed of his importance to facilitate a fake lesbian relationship in order to queer bait and make more money; I have a Ted talk in the works, don’t worry).
Elphaba is the star of the show. It is her story. It is her journey. And Cynthia KILLED it in WFG. No Good Deed is the show stopper of the second film. Seeing her ignored for a trumped up white woman (saying this AS A WHITE WOMAN) makes me sick. Ariana did not need another song. She didn’t NEED to be in Wonderful. She didn’t need to have childhood explored because it never mattered to the storyline.
But they threw all their money behind the white pop star and not the WOC who was HANDS DOWN the star and should have gotten her EGOT off this role. And Chu, as a POC, should be ashamed of himself. He deserves to not be nominated. He took the weakest parts of act two and made them weaker.
I hope Cynthia boycotts award season. Especially if this becomes the trend.
I honestly hope the only person who wins anything for this movie is Paul Tazewell and the makeup people. (And JB and Cynthia if these idiots pull their heads out of their asses).
the amount of sidelining that fiyero gets is bullsh*t for how devoted, how utterly important and how crucial he is in elphaba's life
imo, fiyero should have gotten another solo song in WFG, not glinda
glinda is an important character in the story but she is not THE character the story is about (she's not even supposed to be a duel protagonist)
a fact that everyone hates to admit is that elphaba and glinda's relationship is toxic, unhealthy, and borderline abusive (especially in the beginning)
GLINDA IS NOT MEANT TO BE A GOOD PERSON
she's not even meant to have that HUGE of a role in the story !
if they really wanted to, they could make a spin off called "Good" that can be all about glinda
in the end, it's elphaba's story (defying the wizard, trying to save Oz, and learning how to love herself for who she truly is)
and fiyero is a huge part of her journey to learn how to love and accept herself just the way she is
as much as I LOVE the wicked movies (and musical), there's so much they missed out on

I'm fully convinced that 99.9% of Gelphie shippers don't like Wicked at all. They fully hate canon. I saw an ALAYM post where you could barely see Fiyero and someone was commenting something along the lines of "thank you for cropping the image so I don't have to see who these hands belong to" and that "Elphaba and Glinda would've been the obvious couple if Greg didn't punch out his lesbian hating fanfic never mind he's literally a homosexual man and the book has literal homosexual characters".
They hate Fiyero, they hate Elphaba's happiness, they hate that it's fully, 100% canon that she loves him and that the love she feels for Glinda is fraternal (even Glinda says it, "now that I've chosen to become a pal, a SISTER and advisor"), they hate that Fiyero (a pivotal, irreplaceable and unchangeable character) exists, and I'm sorry that you guys never felt the joy of having a female friendship so close and so intimate that you feel like "sister" isn't strong enough of a word to describe the feeling (and that level of intimacy doesn't have to be romantic to be valid), and I'm sorry that you hate men as whole so much you can't see how phenomenal Fiyero is and how beautiful and necessary his relationship with Elphaba is (not saying that her relationship with Glinda isn't, because it very much is, but for different reasons), but like, if you hate everything that is canon so much except Glinda, your personal idea of Elphaba and a plot that doesn't exist, what are you even doing here? Just admit that you only like Glinda and the idea of an Elphaba that only exists in your head, and not Wicked.
I ship Glinda with a woman myself (the original version of Pfannee), I see Elphaba as an aro/ace spec bisexual (because that's what I am), and Fiyero's sexual identity is most definitely "yes, please", but for Oz's sake, leave Fiyero alone. If you can't understand him and Fiyeraba and hate canon so much, go write your fanfictions and be happy, but stop preaching around how canon is somehow homophobic and "forcing heterosexuality" when it isn't and stop harassing Fiyeraba shippers, because that's not the vibe, hun!
I'm sorry but I just. I do not give a fuck about young Glinda. In fact, she's literally the lamest character to show young??? The entire point of her changing is that she WAS a bitch, just because she could be and everyone would love her for it. "I want to be magic, for real 🥹" like okay??? Childhood dreams don't make it right when you terrorize the evil minority TM for getting what you wanted. Unless it's shown that her parents borderline forced her to bully outcasts, there's almost nothing young Glinda could do that would make me feel bad for her. Like, yay. You want to be magic, you have some issues, so what do you do? You bully a green girl and publicly humiliate her out of jealousy because she got to be magic, and you didn't. Lame. Capitalizing off of cute-chubby-cheeked kid sympathy.
And not to be biased to Fiyero, but he would've been SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING???? Little kid Fiyero faking being happy and funny and dumb to appease his family, or being belittled for his behavior, or just generally being depressed. Because, I shall remind everyone, that he has to abandon his family after being turned into a scarecrow. Glinda has her momsie and popscicle, Elphaba's family is dead (and not the best in the first place), but he just has to live knowing that his family thinks he's dead, but knowing they'd probably be disgusted if he returned. What if he had siblings?
Plus, given the way in Fiyero's own wedding, he can't be in his cultural clothing- he's probably had nothing of his family since joining the Guard. And it's clear than Glinda and Morrible, to an extent, do not think of him as a person so much as an accessory for press (Glinda talking about "taking what doesn't belong to you," Elphaba saying, "he never belonged to you"). So, generally, showing Fiyero's culture, the state of his country, snippets of him and foal Fedlspur, even just Fiyero eating grass would be better! Actually, new headcanon, he ate grass to stand with Feldspur when other kids were making fun of him.
Anyway. Point is: almost all of Glinda's character is easily covered in her Shiz years and onward. I suppose it adds a little as to why she was so jealous, but still. It really just feels like they're throwing in as much Glinda as possible, and I'm worried- we're not supposed to gloss over her actions. Supposed to feel bad for her being left on her own, yes. But she's left alone because of her actions betraying Elphaba, not some childhood dream. But Fiyero, depressed, eating grass, and seeing his family or culture would be, simply, so much better. I'm holding out hope that they just haven't show it yet because he's not as big a character, and because from a marketing standpoint, it makes sense to make Glinda the main one- Ariana brings in more tickets. So, yeah. IDK. Young Glinda feels like a giant waste of time, considering they could be... y'know, adding nuance to Fiyer-crow and Tin-Boq's journeys with Dorothy, how they act, Fiyero having to play dumb, Boq reminiscing over his body, etc. Honestly, a lot of added Glinda stuff feels like a waste. That one trailer bit where she's going, "Here's the plan- I don't have a plan," like... what. The entire point of her character is that, no matter how much she cares for Elphaba, she won't sacrifice it or do anything to put her position at risk until Nessa is dead and Fiyero is tied up and possibly tortured. To have her actually want to make plans is... meh. Like, that's Fiyero's thing. Then the broomstick thing- again, what are they even talking about? Glinda glossing over the Animal genocide again? And I functionally understand Glinda being in 'Wonderful,' because the Wizard definitely isn't enough, but still. It's getting to a point.
And I understand Glinda is one of the main characters, but she feels over-saturated. For a story about moral nuance, you'd think they'd include more than two characters. Anyway. Like I said, holding out hope that it's just because she's Ariana, but there are much better areas to focus on than Glinda.
In Defence of Fiyero: A Queer Woman’s Reading of Wicked (Book Canon)
Since people are saying they’re going to boycott “As Long As You’re Mine” in the film (even calling it “disgusting” on x) I’m pulling out actual book quotes in defence of Fiyero. I’m using the book itself because it’s so often used to erase the relationship between Elphaba and Fiyero, in favour of her relationship with Glinda, when in reality it’s central to her story. And YES, as a queer woman myself, I’m saying this.
And no, this isn’t about starting a shipping war. Ship whoever you want, that’s fine. But too many people are ignoring how important Fiyero’s character is to Elphaba. Not just romantically, but in how she understands love, otherness, and herself. And then they trash him.
To erase him, or to call Elphaba loving him “heteronormative,” is missing the point entirely. It can also be read as biphobic.
If you’re calling it “homophobia” to show her love for a man over Glinda, then you’re being complicit in biphobia. Elphaba loved Fiyero in the book and in the musical. That’s just canon.
And one thing people skip over is Glinda being a racist, and I'm so sick of it.
When Glinda sees Elphaba again at Nessa’s funeral, she’s a wealthy, married woman... Distant, proper, and STILL prejudiced. She mirrors the same kind of elitism and racism we saw from Avaric back at Shiz.
Remember this scene:
“What’s he wearing such silly paint for?” said Avaric. “He only draws attention to himself. And that skin. I wouldn’t want to have skin the color of shit.”
“What a thing to say,” said Elphaba. “If you ask me, that’s a shitty opinion.”
“Oh please,” said Boq. “Let’s just shut up.”
“I forgot, Elphie, skin is your issue too,” said Avaric.
This is literally about Fiyero. The way his brown skin is mocked and fetishized, and the way Elphaba defends him, shows how she connects with him through shared otherness. They both live marked by colour.
Later, Glinda herself says this when Elphaba mentions the rumors about her and Fiyero:
“I knew his wife,” said the Witch, “and his in-laws. It was suggested to me that he had been carrying on an affair with you in the Emerald City.”
Glinda turned yellow-pink. “My dear,” she said, “I was fond of Fiyero and he was a good man and a fine statesman. But among other things, you will remember he was dark-skinned. Even if I took up dalliances — an inclination I believe rarely benefits anyone — you are once again being suspicious and cranky to suspect me and Fiyero! The idea!”
(pp. 343–344)
And then Elphaba says later:
“I have always felt like a pawn,” said the Witch. “My skin colour’s been a curse. My missionary parents made me sober and intense, my school days brought me up against political crimes and against Animals, my love life imploded, and my lover died…”
(p. 345)
Glinda’s line is textbook racism disguised as propriety. She’s embarrassed by the idea of being associated with a man of colour. Elphaba, on the other hand, understands what it means to be othered for the body you were born into, and rants about losing him.
Yes, Elphaba was 'devoted to Glinda' during their Shiz days, as per what her Nanny says. That’s fine. It’s sweet. It’s textually supported. She kisses Glinda twice when they say goodbye, and whether it’s cheek or lips, it’s intimate.
But Glinda does not reciprocate those feelings romantically outright. While people love to claim 'subtext' one direct quote before the kiss is:
“And how I have changed, she thought in a year and some. From despising the coloured girl to claiming we are blood!”
(p. 177)
This isn’t about romance. It’s about Glinda’s self-congratulatory “growth” from being prejudiced to being tolerant. Which… still centers her.
And let’s not forget that Elphaba’s goodbye kiss to Glinda later mirrors another, non-romantic moment:
“Fiyero shook hands with Crope and then, remembering the rumours about poor Tibbett’s deterioration, kissed him.”
(p. 212)
Both are goodbye gestures, not necessarily romantic ones. Although, of course, you can read it as such if you desire.
Elphaba’s love for Fiyero is the emotional core of Wicked. It’s not a side plot. It’s the turning point of her life. Like it is in the musical when she thinks he's dead.
Before him, she believes casualties are acceptable for her cause. After his death, she collapses, abandoning everything she fought for. She spends years in grief and isolation, haunted by him.
“Why should I keep myself so safe?” he asked her, but he was almost asking himself… and me, with a shallow and undirected mind, no artfulness in word or habit, no especial kindness towards the world? What is there that makes my life worth preserving?
“I love you,” said Elphaba.
“So that’s that then, and that’s it,” he answered her, and himself. “And I love you. So I promise to be careful.”
(p. 214)
“She couldn’t pull Elphaba out of her position of dreamless, sleepless grief.”
(p. 222)
“Inside the glass lived reflections of a young and beautiful Fiyero, and a young and impassioned Fae. The Witch took the mirror and hid it in her apron and wandered away.”
(p. 375)
And then, a scene that mirrors the musical:
“She began to think that behind that painted cornmeal sack of a face, there was a face she would know, a face she had been waiting for.
She lit a candle and said the words aloud, as if she really could do spells. The words blew aside the taper of grayish smoke that rose from the fatty tallow. If they had any other effect in the world than that, she didn’t know it yet. ‘Fiyero didn’t die,’ she said. ‘He was imprisoned, and he has escaped. He is coming home to Kiamo Ko, he is coming home to me, and he is disguised as a scarecrow because he doesn’t yet know what he will find.’
It would take brains to think up such a plan.
She took an old tunic of Fiyero’s. She called elderly Killyjoy and bade him sniff it well, and sent him down into the valley every day, so that if the travelers showed up, Killyjoy would be able to find them, and lead them home rejoicing.
And though she tried not to sleep, on occasion she could not help it; her dreams brought Fiyero closer and closer to home.”
(pp. 389–390)
That’s not subtext. That’s not “optional canon.” There are SO many quotes I could add. About how Liir will finally have his wish of a father, etc.
To deny Elphaba’s love for Fiyero (in the book or the musical) is to erase part of her identity.
She is queer, complex, and capable of loving across gender and difference. She’s not less queer for loving a man. She’s not less radical for loving deeply.
And honestly, people saying they’ll “walk out” during “As Long As You’re Mine”?
Please. That scene isn’t erasure.
It’s Elphaba’s moment of vulnerability, of letting herself love and be loved by someone she wants.
There are more quotes I could pull (so many), but honestly? I’m tired.
Still: the text speaks for itself.
Erasing Elphaba and Fiyero’s love does a disservice not only to them, but to us. The queer readers who understand that love isn’t binary, it’s expansive.
Elphaba loved Fiyero.
That doesn’t make her less queer. It also doesn't threaten your identity if you see yourself in the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda. By all means, ship her with Glinda. This isn't a Glinda hate post. I'm posting exact quotes.
But don't erase Fiyero and turn him into something he's not.
Furthermore, Oz has never been a straight world.
Elphaba’s parents are BOTH literally in a relationship with a Quadling man. Elphaba herself is heavily implied to be intersex, though she presents as female (which Maguire alludes to throughout).
And there’s that infamous scene where a Tiger has relations with a student at the Philosophy Club.
Gregory Maguire doesn’t shy away from queerness... It’s baked into his worldbuilding.
So let’s be real: if he’d wanted to write Elphaba and Glinda as the main romantic pairing, he would have. He’s also an author who knows how to sell books; of course he’s going to tell fans what they want to hear at signings, especially after the musical blew up. Be it in favour of Fiyero or Glinda. But I could rant on queerbaiting as well, and won't in this post.
The Great Longbottom Bully Chronicles: Gran Edition
After examining Neville's relationship with Draco (or, more accurately, the lack thereof) here, I found myself thinking about the actual bullies he's shown to have in canon, one of which is undoubtedly his grandma.
Mrs. Longbottom is shown to have a continued negative impact on her grandson but are we meant to see her behaviour as abusive? I'm going to go out on a limb and say no, JKR did not intend for the character to be read as abusive, even though what we see when she is mentioned in the books is nothing but a military parade of red flags.
The descriptor JKR uses most often when talking about Augusta is "formidable" so I'm assuming she meant for her to come off as strict but ultimately well-meaning. After all, she is one of the Good Guys and we are always meant to excuse a Good Guy's actions, no matter how mean spirited or violent (see: Harry crucio-ing that one dude).
JKR has the unsettling habit of framing abusive parenting as excusable when the person doing said parenting is coming at it with good intentions or from a place of love (see: 70% of Molly Weasley's actions towards her children). I understand she started writing the books in the early nineties when there wasn't much of an open discussion on this topic but some of the behaviours she has her mom characters do feel like abuse evergreens. Take for example the howlers:
A howler's intended use IS public humiliation, there's no two ways about it. If the intent was merely to scold the recipient one could decide when to open them but howlers are designed to open as soon as they've been received. And when are Howlers received, especially when you send them to your school-aged children? In the great hall, a room full of you child's peers and teachers. Both Augusta and Molly know all this and still make the decision to send Howlers. This, in the books, is treated as embarrassing for the receiver but is not ultimately portrayed in a negative light (that is to say, as a malicious act).
So, JKR has a skewed perspective on what constitutes good parenting but what do we, as a modern, presumably non abusive audience, actually see when we look at Augusta Longbottom's actions as a guardian? Let's take a look:
(PS, Neville on how his family discovered he was a wizard)
Neville here is describing his family's terrible attitude towards him and Augusta is not only shown to not have a problem with any of the horrible things being done to her nephew but she is also implied to have shared her relatives' concerns. Would her treatment of Neville have been even worse than what is shown in the books if he was a squib (something which, by the way, he'd have no control over)? Most definitely.
Also, I hate how Augusta's love is portrayed as conditional; don't worry, we'll see more of that in a while (lest you think this was a one-time instance).
(PoA, while preparing to defeat a boggart, Neville describes his greatest fear - Snape - and also casually mentions how he fears his own grandmother)
I'm sorry, did Neville just put Augusta on the same level as Snape, his most fervent bully? This says so much about their relationship (and Augusta's approach to parenting).
(GoF, Neville knows his gran would love for him to enter a potentially deadly competition just to show the world how Brave he is)
Why is it up to a 14 y.o. boy who has so far shown very little aptitude for magic to uphold the family honor? Neville is literally still a child but he's already being measured against his war hero parents, not only that, he's being told regularly through this comparison that he's lacking, and that cannot possibly be good for a child's development.
(OotP, straight from the horse's mouth)
What a perfectly horrible thing to say. Not only is Augusta saying this to Neville's face but she is also telling this to Neville's schoolmates (Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny). Why does she feel the need to dress him down in front of people whose opinion he cares about?
(OotP, Neville casually reveals he is constantly made to feel inadequate, even in front of others)
Once again we are being told that mrs Longbottom is endlessly reminding Neville of all the ways in which he fails to be like his father.
(OotP, Neville is injured and in danger in the Department of Mysteries but he knows his gran's priority is first and foremost his father's wand)
I would like to take this moment to address just how fucked up it is that not only Neville is being constantly compared to his father but that he's also being forced to imitate him via the use of his wand. We know from observing both Ron and future Neville that a wrong wand can seriously hinder one's magic output; this cannot be news to someone of Augusta's age yet it's more important to her that Neville try to live up to his father's image than he be his own person.
and
(HBP, Augusta is finally proud of Neville)
Here we see an aspect of Augusta's behaviour towards Neville that is particularly gross: Neville finally has his grandma's approval (because he's behaving like his father) but it's not his heroics by themselves that she appreciates, it's their public nature. Mrs. Longbottom, who has not talked to the press before (nor will she in the future), is happy to do so because she has an excuse to brag, as if her grandson's achievements are also hers by association.
(HBP, sure Neville is a hero but he's a not Harry Potter-level hero...)
And here we come to yet another evergreen in the abusive parent handbook: the shifting of goalposts. Augusta has been wanting for Neville to behave more like his father (i.e. heroically) all this time but once he starts doing that suddenly it's not enough anymore. Whereas before Neville was lacking because he wasn't behaving bravely, now he's lacking because he's not behaving saviour of the wizarding world-level bravely (an impossible goal to reach).
(HBP, McGonagall says what we're all thinking)
I find this passage interesting because jkr finally has a character acknowledge that mrs. Longbottom is not behaving like a good parent and yet nothing comes from it. In an ideal world, McGonagall would follow this with a letter to Augusta where she talks about the effect her expectations are having on Neville but she doesn't do that. This is especially galling since McGonagall is shown to not have a problem with writing to Augusta if she sees she's acting against her grandson's best interests, after all she does write mrs. Longbottom a letter to help Neville enroll in 6th year Charms (the study of which Augusta discourages because it's a subject SHE had difficulty in).
and also
(DH, Augusta is finally proud of Neville but only because he's behaving like she wants him to)
I can't help but feel like there's better ways to show Neville's growth as a character (and the improvement of his relationship with Augusta) than what we are shown in the books. In the end, mrs. Longbottom is rewarded for her awful parenting by getting exactly the grandson she's wanted all along; it's not her who's adjusted her expectations and seen them as unreasonable, it's Neville who's had to change - and even then it's not because he wanted to but because of external reasons (he's in the middle of a war). Neville rose to her impossible expectation by pure happenstance and I don't say that to discount his resilience and general goodness, only to note that the circumstances were beyond his control.
In conclusion, Augusta Longbottom is a terrible guardian and her actions fucked up Neville's development just as much as Snape's bullying did and yet in the books only one of them is unequivocally shown to be in the wrong for it.
Harry Potter - End of Battle of Hogwarts til 19 Years Later
I’ve had many Harry Potter headcanons in my Notes app for years and never really knew what to do with them.
Because JKR is who and what she is, I realised I cannot in good conscience write fan fiction with all the material I have, as I do not wish to support her and her views.
However, because I’ve put effort into these headcanons, I do not wish to let them go to waste.
I have therefore decided to use a middle ground and post them here on tumblr, so that I can delete them from my phone.
So, over the next few days/weeks, I will post my HP headcanons on here - largely Next Gen focused, but other bits in between.
To whoever’s reading this, enjoy!
PS: As you can read from this, I’ve changed some of Harry’s kids's names as well as their dates of birth. This is deliberate and part of my headcanons.
-Golden Trio (GT) goes to the boys' dormitory
-Kreacher brings them food and drinks
-Harry immediately falls asleep afterwards
-Romione stay awake for a while, just cuddling in silence until they fall asleep in the same bed
-nightmares. all the nightmares.
-they wake up in the early afternoon
-Harry sends a patronus to McG asking her to meet them in the Gryffindor common room
-GT and McG discuss the immediate future
-Harry tells her about the Elder wand and they decide to put it to good use by using it to help rebuild the castle
-after that, he breaks it (film) and puts the pieces in Dumbledore's tomb (book)
-"So… what now?" - Ron, probably
-Harry decides to stay at Hogwarts for the next few days, so Romione do too cause Harry doesn’t wanna be alone
-2 days after the battle, Romione have a conversation and officially become a couple
Meanwhile: McG POV
-V's body is moved to a room far away from the others and locked
-the F50 are identified within a few hours and relatives are notified
-Kingsley is still minister
-F50 are carefully placed in a large chamber with provisional funeral decorations
-the physically injured are tended to by Pomfrey and others in the hospital wing
-McG meeting with GT
-the house elves willingly prepare food for the survivors
-over the next few days, pictures are taken for future educational purposes
-it takes a few days to rebuild Hogwarts
-memorial for all the victims is held on 12.05.1998
-Fred’s funeral is on 09.05.1998
-McG is officially the headmistress, with Flitwick as deputy
-Kingsley has been officially elected as minister
-Hinny talk the day after Fred’s funeral and officially get together again
-Remadora funeral (08.05.1998) where Harry meets Teddy for the first time

okay guys can we stop fighting about which ship is better? We're missing that the point of the musical/book/movie is about a girl neglected by society and her parents, becomes romantically attached to the first two people who show some (platonic) affection & is unable to form meaningful relationships with other human beings after that.
both ships are valid. both ships are driving forces in the story. but there's so much more than just "she's gay!! That's in the subtext" or "she canonically goes with the het ship!!" (though both are accurate and important points to make) But at its core wicked is the story of a girl who failed to form stable attachments to EVERYONE, whether they be friends or lovers, and how that impacts her moving forward.
can we stop it with the ship hate????? both fiyeraba and gelphie have basis in canon, I literally ship both ships. and I'm getting sick and damn tired of people assuming (and insisting. And bragging about...) how they are morally superior for shipping one over the other
literally ship and let ship. It's not that hard. Don't like a ship? Don't interact with it!!!!! You don't have to post a "here are the reasons I HATE <ship>"
It makes the fandom unnecessarily toxic. Can we please just enjoy our witch drama in peace
