The Dress
ELIZABETH TAYLOR in IVANHOE (1952) →"I stole a little happiness, perhaps - but not from you or him - only from my dreams.”
The Mike Todd Diamond Tiara, given to Elizabeth Taylor by her third husband, film producer Mike Todd, in 1957. The tiara was made in 1880 and is comprised of mine cut diamonds and platinum and yellow gold scroll work. Cleverly designed and made with exceptional craftsmanship, in addition to being a headpiece, Elizabeth was also able to wear the tiara as a necklace by removing it from its base, a simple task requiring little effort. Auctioned by Christie’s following Taylor’s passing in 2011 for $4,226,500, Dame Elizabeth’s legendary gems raised a total of $156,800,000, with a large percentage of the proceeds going to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in order to continue providing meals and medical and financial assistance in perpetuity to people living with HIV and AIDS, as stipulated in Elizabeth’s Last Will and Testament.
“Not long after Vivien’s death, Gertrude and Jack received letters from Consuelo Langton-Lockton, who had cast Vivien's horoscope as early as 1938. She was anxious to ‘expose herself’ as a channel for any messages Vivien’s spirit might wish to convey from across the divide….Vivien returned to her. This proved a highly emotional session, during which Vivien continually asked how Larry was…it was Olivier who was drawing her back to earth. She was begging for forgiveness and wanted Olivier to know she loved him still. The channel concluded, 'If he should 'go’, she will be waiting. Love is stronger than death- and things get sorted out on that side. Thank God.”
