Baek Saheon's relationship with Soleum in Pt3. An Analysis. Spoilers up to Ch395
How does Saheon view Kim Soleum?
(Quick Note. When I refer to Soleum is when I refer to the person Kim Soleum as a whole. When I refer to the Psychopath, I'm specifically referring to Soleums personality/act of a psychopath in front of Saheon.)
Let's start with a quick summary of what I think and then go into deeper analysis.
Generally I believe Saheon treats Soleum as the Agent and NOT the Psychopath. In fact Saheon seems to be trying to prove that the personality of the Psychopath was never real and that the Agent was the real Soleum underneath the Psychopath
However those are just my general feelings and can easily be proven true with an explanation of this line
But thats a more simple analysis/theory for another post. For this post I want to go line by line and try to analyze Sahoeuns current mindset. So lets begin shall we?
(Quick Note: I am doing this analysis while having reviewed all Agent and Saheon scenes minus the initial Jisan Village scene. I have not reviewed the Psychopath and Saheon scenes for this analysis and am relying off of memory. If I make a mistake regarding the Psychopath feel free to inform me.)
Ch392
In this chapter Saheon seems generally uncertain on how to treat Soleum. Whether to treat him as the Psychopath who he dislikes and tormented him or the Agent who he deeply cares about.
First off Soleums begins acting as the Psychopath. Instinctually l suppose since he makes an active effort to NOT act like the Psychopath or aggravate Saheon later on.
Sharp, cold, unpredictable. I'm pretty sure I don't need to pull up proof to say this is exactly how the Psychopath behaves.
Now for how Saheon behaves. First we can deduce from his actions that he's gotten some sort of inspiration from the Psychopath act in his own behavior. Finding control in being unpredictable. We can see it in The Researchers comments later in the chapter
We can see that when he needs to gain control over a situation he suddenly behaves in a fairly threatening and intimidating fashion. As shown when he heard a commotion, despite his previous friendly behavior.
And he continues this attitude in an attempt to get him and Soleum to speak privately.
He's seemingly grown a lot since we last saw him. He seems to be more confident and self assured. He's clearly confused on Soleums presence here. And yet....
He flinches. Mr. Four years of experience, HQ representative, Section Chief flinches. At a worker who has as much value as an expensive lab rat. A worker whose currently beaten the hell up and soaked to the bone. He flinches.
Shows he's quite shaken by the Psychopath to the point where one single word causes him to flinch. Yet his next actions don't seem to align with his behavior towards the Psychopath at all...
First this line. Where he speaks in what appears to be a more worried and confused tone despite starting with an accusation. The accusation matching his history towards the Psychopath but his general tone and worry aligns with how he treats the Agent. Which you can see reflected in his reunion with the Agent after nearly a year.
Matching the tone of accusation combined with worry.
Which then leads to the next line. A line again matching the dynamic between the Agent and Saheon
Where he directly attacks Soleum though he clearly doesn't mean much by it. Its just an honest thought. A thought which he definitly wouldn't feel safe enough to say to the Psychopath, but something we've been shown he feels safe enough to do with the Agent
And the next line
Now i'm not too sure about this line. Sneering, mockery. Generally seems to line up with his dislike for the Psychopath. And yet it's been shown he never behaves that way with the Psychopath. He doesn't feel safe enough to. Behaving like that is a risk he isn't willing to take. But yk when he has been sneering and full of mockery?
When he found the Agent as a collapsed lump of a human body. Another position where he found Soleum as injured. Food for thought.
The next line is a line matching neither Psychopath nor Agent
This one actively refers to his history and assumptions of Soleum with the "are you living like this to avoid being noticed?". His worry lines up with his feelings on the Agent but he's never spoken to the agent like this. He's been annoyed by the Agents incompetence and treated him like he's stupid but he's not spoken with this cool and detached tone.
He also hasn't behaved like this with the Psychopath. Never been worried about him or been so condescending towards him as far as I remember. This appears to be a mix. Where he treats him like the Agent with the awareness that this is Kim Soleum. The Psychopath. Could also be due to his newfound confidence as Section Chief? The next line implies it could be both.
He seems to be shifting more towards an attitude he would direct towards the Psychopath. Attempting to hoard power over him and take advantage of that. But not to the full extent he has before. Here he only seems to want to make the hierarchy clear. He even seems to be mimicking the way the Psychopath used to speak to him. Making the other feel lower and correcting their attitude.
And Soleums next line encourages his perception that this is the Psychopath. Not the Agent
Mostly in the unpredictability. Matches in the way the Psychopath would talk. Answering in what appears to be a random and inconsistent manner, catching Saheon off guard. Saheon seems to be upset by this before moving on.
Once more we seem to be lining up with his behavior towards the Agent. Aside from his comment of "did you lose it all to gambling or smth?" Which directly alludes to his thoughts and perceptions of Soleum, his behavior aligns with that of the Agent
Whenever the Agent mentions something bad happening to him, Saheon will suddenly go quiet. Which matches up with his behavior in Part 3. Then he seems to be going back into the strange mix of attitudes
Where he wouldn't act like this with the Psychopath because he doesn't care to help him. But he also doesnt act like this with the Agent. Because he never cared to hold power over the Agent like wanted to with the Psychopath. A mix of behaviors.
Until suddenly Soleum says this. And Saheon flinches for a different reason.
and this is immiedatly reminiscent of two pf the Agents behaviors.
1. The Agents insistence that he will not threaten him.
Okay so apparently I ran out of images pls hold ☝️
I will continue in a reblog
