one of the most annoying ripple effects of fandom culture is the way so many people can’t seem to keep it in perspective that at the end of the day they’re just talking about art. it feels like i am trapped between people who are like “if you dare criticize the thing i like you are basically personally coming into my house and stealing my dog and shooting my jewelry” and people who are like “global communism is being stopped from succeeding because steven universe is on the air.” and call me a centrist but i don’t think either of those things are true

I hate the rise in people on tumblr thinking it's "good etiquette" to never add anything to posts in reblogs, to not tag reblogs with ships they're supposed to know the OP doesn't like because they think everyone should click the bio of every single person and study it before reblogging... This is not a private journal. This is a public website, and it's also the Reblogging and Turning it Into a Convo website. Like, yes, sometimes that can be annoying! Because making public posts where you're at the mercy of strangers has a high risk of annoyance. But that's the risk you take by posting.

I actually really do hate the “your thoughts go into the tags” shit because I’ve seen people I follow flat out disagree with a post but reblog it anyways! And their disagreement is hidden in the tags, so when it gets reblogged their thoughts aren’t shown to the next person or the next.

Unless it’s blatantly a personal post, anyone who gets mad at shippers for “ruining a post” as just as pretentious as the hipster blogs of 2012.

Thinking about this more, and you know, I also think it's symptomatic of a general tendency toward newer users wanting to treat this site in an individualistic way rather than a community, which includes a lot of newer approaches to fandom too wherein people want to be cliquey little haters instead of coming to play in the giant sandbox. Like, shit that used to be a funny tradition, like random posts getting Spn-ified via the whole "Spn has a gif for everything" or a silly tag, some people will now lose when it happens to them instead of having some fucking whimsy about it.

Genuinely where are people getting the impression that not adding to posts is “tumblr etiquette”… it has literally never been. You can be individually annoyed if you want, but stop acting like never adding to any posts ever is a reasonable expectation to have of the entirety of this site which is BUILT on people adding to each others posts

In order to be properly non-pedophilic you have to want to fuck somebody old but not with gray or white hair because that's too close to blonde which as we've established is the hair color of children. And it can't be a white woman because that would be racist and it can't be a woman of color because that would be fetishistic, so ideally a woman with some unnatural skin color, oh let's say, purple. But it can't be an alien, because we don't know anything about alien life cycles so it could be an alien child or an alien that looks like a child. So it has to be an animal from Earth, but obviously one of human level intelligence that can communicate is otherwise that would be bestiality. So an old purple female animal that can speak English.
