Yknow the way thr show portrays Yellow and Arthurs relationship is really strange.

The way john and Arthur talk about it, you'd think Arthur was genuinely horrible to Yellow the whole time he was with Arthur but this kinda isnt really the case? I mean Arthur was pretty impatient and wanted John back sure, but like he wasn't unreasonably a dick. Worst thing he did was lie about the glass, and honestly that was a smart idea to protect himself, also he came clean about it the next day!

And then there’s the way they portray Yellow. The way Arthur talks about him you'd think he was significantly more evil and horrible than John, which is just super not the case? Like i dont really think yellow was much worse than john at all, but Arthur talks like he's the incarnation of all evil.

Its just a little weird because yellow and Arthur only knew each other for a very short time and they did have good moments during that time, so im a little bummed at how unreasonable the divide is between them.

John "im glad im not like you" Doe, get the fuck off your high horse man. Like what? Sure Arthur is 20 feet into a full sociopathic break, and his humanity isnt even really hanging by a thread anymore, but its also a very reasonable break in sanity, and if you stopped judging him long enough to get him to safety he'd probably be able to come back to himself and heal a bit as a person.

Also like shut the fuck up about your murder hang ups, John "eldritch evil god" doe. Considering all of the people who have died in the wake of them both, intentionally murdering someone for revenge is like barely even a bad thing.

This feels a little like the lighthouse woman all over again.

additionally, I as a listener thought Arthurs threat was very very bad ass and would be deeply disappointed if he didn't follow through with his full chest and vitriolic violence lol. Although I guess thats just me, lmao. (I like my morally Grey leaning straight up evil characters lol)

Y'know many years ago I listened to the audio book of this one MM Romance novel series called The Merman, and I was I obsessed with it. Shockingly it wasnt actually the romance that enthralled me. The romance was good dont get me wrong, but it was really the plot and story that hooked me! It was so unique and eerie and fun to experience! I genuinely adore it.

It is only in my recent delve into Malevolent and Arkahm and The King In Yellow and other horror that ive come to a super cool and interesting revelation about that romance series I love.

The Merman by X. Aratare is actually a cosmic horror series! I had no idea, but it makes sense in retrospect why I was so obsessed with all of its unique and creepy aspects. There was so much in this story that set it apart from other romance stories and even other romance mermaid/Merman stories! The Merman actually takes place in the universe of the Cthulu mythos I think? (Im still learning) but Miskatonic University is in it among other things so, super cool!

On the woman under the lighthouse. I dont think the was a horrible monster. I mean maybe, but Arthur clings to the surety that she was evil way more than any evidence suggests because he doesnt want to be guilty of murdering and innocent. HOWEVER, i dont think its really all that fair for John to judge Arthur for killing her. I mean on the one hand John is a vicious murderer too, lmao. Like Emily was a child im pretty sure right? Like, dudes a bad guy. But my main reason for saying its bullshit is that Arthur was 100% defending himself. I dont care if maybe the woman was innocent. She was either unable or unwilling to speak, sounded terrifying, and chased them through an entire underground cult base, to the extent of crawling through a tiny hole to chase them. OF COURSE Arthur thought she was a threat, and she was so persistent and the fog was so dangerous that it was the smart decision to kill her so she couldn't chase them anymore. It was just the best option at the time, so super not fair to judge him too harshly on that regardless of whether the woman was innocent or not.

The real weird thing is how guilty Arthur acts about it. I mean. Arthur really truly DID kill Eddie. And like Eddie was maybe a bad guy, but he was DEFINITELY human, and he also killed mr.faust and ate him. Like, i don't think killing the lighthouse woman is any worse than either of those circumstances tbh.
