One thing that I haven’t seen people talk about yet is Morgan Dudley’s Flowers. I haven’t seen a video, but I have heard the audio, and holy shit that woman can put so much emotion into her voice.

The first part, when she’s lamenting her choice to go with Hades, she sounds like she’s nearing a breakdown, and you can hear the almost crying in her voice. She’s desperate and mourning her own life, and can you ever hear it. And the buildup to the emotional part???? Flawless.

The second part is also incredible, starting at “Flowers, I remember fields of flowers”. She sounds like she was spiralling, but then she thought of her world and of Orpheus, however little she could remember of it, and the memory dragged her out of the spiral. She then slowly becomes more and more resigned to her fate, still mournful, but more in a tired, given up way.

In conclusion: holy shit this woman can sing and act.

Okay so I saw Hadestown last night and it was the best thing in the whole world ever it was amazing it was so good and I'm gonna type up all the mostly-coherent thoughts that I had about it (written down during intermission and right after the show ended)

Jack is fucking amazing, he sounds like a fucking angel on the Epics

Morgan's acting is the best I've seen, probably better than Eva's honestly because she plays her with so much anger, like, she's just so powerful and angry

I gotta look up where Paulo Szot is from (answer: born in Brazil to Polish parents so that's cool)

I love how in All I've Ever Known et all Eurydice mostly took the lead, like, Orpheus was like, "Well, clearly she's been traumatized by *something* so she gets to fuck me however she wants and I will worship the ground she walks upon," like, I respect that lol (also, parenthesizing this to separate it from the more profound stuff, but I love how we've established that Orpheus is a bottom *in a heterosexual relationship*, I wish I could be that committed to my vibe)

Persephone is amazing, like, hello?? No one talks about Rebecca Naomi Jones and they absolutely need to, like, she seems so slept on and that's such a shame, she's fantastic

Orpheus looks so scared of everything all the time, poor guy (and so did Gabe actually, maybe this is just Jack's natural state? I hope not because he deserves to be happy and not scared of things)

Eurydice could commit murder and Orpheus would be like "Great job babe!"

Everyone is just acting the hell out of this thing

Hermes is so father, "It ain't because I'm kind" my ass

Wait For Me was the best fucking thing ever it was the fucking best

The Fates with that vultures thing?? I've never seen them so overtly antagonistic before and I honestly love that, they're fucking vultures, perfect

Paulo Szot is off-beat a lot of the time but in an intentional way so it works

No hate to Jack obviously, but I gotta say I've never heard anyone say "ain't" in a British accent before lmao

Kurt Elling is also doing great, like I was really skeptical of a white man but he's a great white man

I've never seen Our Lady Of The Underground done like that, like, what?? She's not having fun at all. It's not a speakeasy, it's a mental breakdown, and Hermes is the only one there, except US, WE'RE there. The only thing I didn't like was that the fourth wall doesn't break on "There's a crack in the wall!" because it's already broken, but the fourth wall has a bit of a Hadestown allergy anyway so it's chill

Morgan's Flowers is fucking peak. It's absolute utter peak. I genuinely think she's better than Eva, like, she has so much more emotion

Jack and Morgan have so much chemistry it's insane

Okay, I gotta say I'm not a huge fan of a more comic Hades (or a more serious Persephone for that matter), which isn't anyone's fault and a lot of people like those choices, but putting it out there

I do love those extra Hades lines in Epic III, like, he's yelling for Orpheus to stop?? What?? I've never seen that, wtf?? It's so cool what

I think it's really interesting that Orpheus and Hades are the only ones who don't have American accents, because a lot of parallels are meant to be drawn between those characters and they can feel forced sometimes but that's a really cool way to tie the two of them together

Love the back of Hades's vest by the way, the red is on point

Also oh god @peskeynonbinary was right he reaches in the hole he reaches in the hole and you can hear him crying he's audibly crying oh god my heart fuck

This is the most upset I've seen Hermes as well, like, yes you are kind don't fucking lie to me, that's your son

It's so interesting how Orpheus plays the guitar for We Raise Our Cups, isn't he usually offstage? The song is addressed to him, wherever he is now, but here he is right here playing the guitar. Is it just me or did this whole thing seem more hopeful? Like, it could actually turn out this time and he's not just saying that

I feel way less hurt than I thought I'd feel coming out of that, but also I came the closest to crying I have in a long time. What is that?? What is that??
