He's got TWO guns!
"Why is Grace laughing question? Rocky is very intimidating statement. GRACE STOP LAUGHING AT ROCKY DEMAND!" A dumb sequel to this

Something wrong with the timeline, Driver Gosling and Rocky
I watched Project Hail Mary and I think it triggered something within me
My favorite totally canon queer Ryan Gosling characters
obsessed with them both for wildly different reasons

I see this a lot in Coltlandgentry fics, that it’s just assumed that Ryland was the one their dad was waterboarding. While that adds a bit more angst to Ryland’s story and a protective big-brother aspect to Colt and Court, I feel like we’re missing out on it being Colt, with Ryland in the corner, staring and unmoving, begging and crying for his dad to stop, and then Court makes him stop. Being the coward he thinks he is because he wouldn’t do the thing that needed to be done— the thing Court had to do.
Or maybe it doesn’t matter whether it was Colt or Ryland. Maybe it was both of them: one passed out on the floor, aspirating with water in his lungs or punched so hard he couldn’t think, while the other was slowly drowned. Maybe it doesn’t matter because Court had created a reality where it was him, always him, only him under his father’s fists, and now that’s broken, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make sure they survive.
Maybe if you asked Colt or Ryland who it was their brother killed their father for, they wouldn’t be able to answer. Because trauma does funny things to memories, and Colt and Ryland come as a pair, and they both think it’s their fault anyway.
Maybe if you’d asked Court— the only person who was able to tell Ryland and Colt apart when they were young— who he killed their father for, he’d say, ‘My baby brother.’ Because it didn’t matter whether it was Colt or Ryland; his father was murdering his baby brother, and by the time the cops came and handcuffed him in the back of a car, all he knew was that they were safe and whoever was in the back of that ambulance would live.

i love when people write colt and court as both being protective of grace because it's like
guy who looks like a street punk: if you hurt ryland i'll —!! i'll fuck you up!! yeah!! i'll fuck you up sooo hard!!
clean cut gentleman with kind eyes: if anything happens to my brother i will skin you alive and feed it to you raw. :)
have we considered a fic where (modern au) Simon is tried as an adult after the eco-attack from Eden (cult) and finds himself cell mates with a man who was also sent to prison as a teenager…
Courtland Gentry, now in his early twenties, hasn’t seen his little brothers in years due to unwilling foster parents who think he’s a bad influence, and walks into his cell one day to find a scared young boy sitting on the other bunk, dried tears streaked down his face.
He’s hardly older than the twins.
Courtland spends the next several months teaching this quiet boy how to protect himself in spite of his injured arm, how to make allies, how to find and weaponize leverage, all the while trying to soften the rough edges left behind from a childhood stolen far too young.
when Donald Fitzroy recruits Court into the Sierra program, his first hesitation is due to the boy he’ll leave alone in this correctional tomb.
(and a decade or two later, when court reconciles with his baby brothers, imagine his surprise when ryland introduces him to his boyfriend, and court realizes he’s managed to find all three of the boys he’s cared for again)
court: so why don’t you want to take this job?
ryland: because. it’s been such a long time since i did research and we all know how that ended.
march: wait what happened?
colt, confused: he called some guy a staggering waste of carbon?
march: WHAT?! WHEN?!
colt: at the unesco conference in denm- we were all THERE!
march: WHAT?
colt: you clapped and yelled “that’s my boy!”

Like the wind sweeps the earth
Somewhere in time when no virtues are left to defend
You've fallen deep
I was a liar in every debate
I rule the forces that fuelled your hate
When the cold in my heart leaves, it comes to an end
Quietly I'll go to sleep
I cannot get it out of my head that every time Ryland looked in the mirror or saw his reflection after waking up on the Hail Mary, his brain always says something he doesn’t quite understand. “He doesn’t wear glasses” but he does wear glasses, he can’t see without them, were the glasses just new or something? “His hair was longer” when he first woke up yeah, he was in a coma for several years. Maybe he always had longer hair? Also, why was he referring to himself in the third person now? “Where are his scars” he had scars? That was one he couldn’t really explain, scars didn’t just go away. He does have scars in the Polaroid from his bag though.
It’s not until he’s heading towards Erid with Rocky, trying to remember more about himself instead of just his parts in the Project, where he starts piecing it together. His whiteboard is a mess of things about the “other me”, because he has no other way to describe it. He’s not a clone, that’d be absurd. But his brain is convinced these memories aren’t quite about him. People don’t see things in the third person, these memories are clearly him looking at another man who isn’t him but has his face. He’s looking at the Polaroid again, now pinned at eye level on the board, and suddenly it hits him that twins are a thing. A thing he had. He had a twin. He was a twin. That was his brother.
His brother, who had long hair the last time he saw him. His brother, who had countless little scars from his years of being a stuntman. His brother, who wore contacts instead of glasses because they got in the way of said stunts. “Makes me look nerdy, that’s your department.” And oh god, he can remember his voice now, so close to his own but so full of … life. He was so full of life and joy, and mischief.
And oh god, his brother, his twin, he was dead wasn’t he? He’d died the day before being put into the coma. He’d been framed for murder, because Ryland knew Colt could never actually murder someone, and had died in that boat explosion while on the run.
Colt. Colton Seavers Grace, though he was never known by their last name like Ryland was. Something about not dragging their mother’s name through the mud with him, since they’d changed to their mother’s maiden name after Court had put their father in the ground.
Courtland. For once, it was an appropriate time to say fuck. Maybe grief could happen twice because Court had been dead for years, ever since 2003, but remembering that felt like he was just learning about it now. Colt was his twin, Court was their older brother. He had had brothers, plural. Two of them.
They had told him he had no family. They told him this because they were all dead.
Suddenly, even though Rocky is right there with him, Ryland is so very alone again.
