Spirits, Names, and Why It’s Important to be Specific

Recently, I’ve been reading a lot of stories that use the concept of Sauron accidentally killing Celebrimbor while torturing him for information and managing to call his spirit back to his body before it makes it safely to Mandos.

Which is a very interesting, if horrifying, concept.

I have also seen, in other stories, the idea that Feanor -  and his sons, but particularly Feanor - might refuse the call to Mandos and instead hang around to be houseless spirits and bother the living. And you know, houseless spirits can possess bodies, and technically all Sauron did was summon the spirit of Curufinwe. He didn’t specify which.

Or: I really, really want to see a story someday in which Sauron tries that trick and instead of getting a half-broken Celebrimbor pushed even closer to the brink, he gets either a very ticked off Curufin or a very, very ticked off Feanor who has been a waiting a long, long, long time to be able to do something for his family and whose spirit is absolutely as strong and overpowering as ever.

Sauron feels like he should technically still have the upper hand in this situation, but in that moment, he has a very hard time believing it.

Similarities between Feanor and Sauron

Another Great Sauron Fic Sighting

Just found another good, well written Sauron fic  that stars Tom Bombadil, Goldberry and Sauron.

Yes you read that correctly: Cheery, Disney-good, ridiculous, cosmically powerful Tom, his lovely wife, and fiery, wounded, de-powered, post ring Sauron. Needless to say I’m amazed this fic can contain these three characters together without Sauron killing them.

So far we have:

1. pitifully vulnerable Hindbrain Mairon, incapable of thought or memory.

2. Sauron absolutely terrified of sleeping in material form; Dreaming scares him to death.

3. Tom totally dominating his will, albeit gently.

4. Lots of PTSD coming up...

5. Endless, unconditional love and cheerfulness from Tom and Goldberry, which freaks Sauron out.
