is anyone else annoyed that "ai" encompasses both chatgpt and tools we train to do repetitive tedious work for us. and by the ripple effect of articles like "scientists develop ai to detect cancer early" that make people argue for the merit of chatgpt or become anti-medicine. and by the general state of the world and society
computer, how do i stop living in the past? computer, how do i stop missing everyone ive ever loved? computer, how can i live in the present without grieving it already? computer, how to tell the difference between desiderium and nostalgia? computer, how can i erase my memories forever?
what’s so funny about slade’s misogyny is that it’s not that “outright” like he grew up surrounded by a lot of domineering women (take frannie for instance) and even married a woman older and higher in rank than him, falling in love with addie when she bested him in combat and always knew she was better than him. and then when the army discarded him, he and billy went off on their “business” and left addie in the dark purposefully, with slade *trying* to relegate her to a housewife position. which ofc, did not work at all. slade was obviously kidding himself thinking he could keep his family “safe” from his secrets but i don’t think he ever underestimated addie, even then
and the way that that translates into how he raised his kids is so interesting bc essentially i don’t think he made any difference in the way he raised his sons vs daughter on the basis of their gender. like…if you’re my kid, you will be my soldier. slade didn’t know how to raise kids as much m he knew how to train soldiers. but he imbued and applied his toxic masculinity and standards of masculinity to all his kids the same. and what’s funny is that ROSE, his only daughter was the one who was ultimately “man enough” for him (even if he doesn’t phrase it that way). grant was an addict, joey was even worse (queer) but rose was tough as nails from the get go. so she won. i think if you called slade a misogynist to his face (as i’m sure rose has) he would say some corny shit like “i’m a misanthrope not a misogynist” or “i don’t care about labels”. but that’s isn’t true cause he was raised with that classic 1950s masculinity standards that are hard to let for of.
and what even FUNNIER to me is that rose’s “toughness” didn’t come from men or a male-centred upbringing at ALL. it was her MOTHER who instilled this militaristic sense of residence and resourcefulness in her. as a woman who had survived a horrible war herself. rose grew up in a matriarchal household surrounded by women her mother had trained specifically to defend themselves. that’s what gave rise the potential to slade to become a skilled warrior and fighter (a mini version of him). it wasn’t his own dumbass philosophy of “strength”
god isn’t hearing my prayers all of the opps are still thriving and blabbering on about things they dont understand
I'm starting to feel like they've put a mask on my face that I'm not sure belongs to me. I have been told I'm tireless. Not for nothing, you're the one who can move mountains. Sometimes I feel something is consuming me. The energy inside me is untamed. Untameable. As if the entire universe was pulling me from infinite directions. This effort devours me.

the thing about misogyny is that nothing makes apparent how prevalent it is faster than just pointing out misogyny, which will have people scuttering out of the damn sewers like ninja turtles to accuse you of being an overly sensitive shit-stirring know-nothing who's making up things to be offended about. which is actually also pretty misogynistic, but if you point it out people will come scuttering out of the damn sewers—

The Odyssey but retold as a low-stakes modern adventure of one guy out with his girlfriend leaving the bar with his buddies to do just one (1) simple thing real quick, it'll take like 15 minutes tops, he'll be right back, but then some bullshit happens and the trip keeps getting more complicated as more bullshit keeps happening while he just tries to get back to the bar because he promised his girlfriend that he'd get back and he knows that she's still there because she told him she'd wait there.
And by the time he finally gets back it's almost 3 am and the bar is about to close while she's sitting there stone cold sober, surrounded by 5 drunk guys unsuccessfully trying to convince her to give up on waiting for him and go home with one of them instead. And the guy shows up to proceed to beat the shit out of them before explaining himself to her like hey sorry bullshit kept happening, my phone fell into a storm drain and my wallet got stolen when I was trying to find someone who'd borrow me a phone so I could call and
His girlfriend had been fending off the 5 drunk guys for most of the evening by explaining that even if she was going to ditch her boyfriend, she can't possibly leave without finishing her beer, which she is keeping perpetually full via careful sleight of hand where she's just pouring it back and forth into and out of the pitcher.
However the drunk guys are also drinking, and eventually she can't afford to buy another pitcher for the table so she can't keep up the ever-full beer glass trick. At this point she has to resort to setting up the pool trick shot that she's never seen anyone but her boyfriend pull off, and says she'll leave with whoever manages the shot first.
That buys her another hour or so and then, finally, her boyfriend makes it back. He looks like shit, hair down and just a mess, he's wearing an entirely different jacket that he got from an alley, and barely recognizable—especially to 5 guys who've been drunk for hours now. He lurks for a minute, finds out what's going on, and proceeds to pull off the trick shot first try. Throws the jacket off, fixes his hair with a hair tie his girlfriend lends him, finally looks like himself again, and THEN beats the shit out of them with the pool cue.
yuh i was there, that's how it happened
