Today, I visited my favorite lab instructor to seek clarification on one of the grades of my lab reports and to inquire about today’s theoretical final exam. I accompanied my friend to his office hour so that he could explain certain topics to us. Afterward, I approached him about the report he had graded as zero. I was confused because he had corrected my report despite its late submission. He checked again and said that he had seemed to forgotten to change the zero to the final grade. He then remarked that he usually maintains a strict approach to late submissions, deducting points for them except in cases where he considers his favorite students. Then he said, AND I QUOTE , “I don’t even know why I go easy on you, but I think it’s because you’ve earned my favor.” I couldn’t help but laugh and say “Really? I’m honored.” Even I have no idea why and how I earned his favor, but I’m grateful nonetheless. He’s an exceptional professor, and I thoroughly enjoy his teaching style and personality. He’s a funny and easygoing individual who goes above and beyond to help us, although it seems that non-physics students often complain about him when they don’t perform well.
