Excited for the school year to end this week so I can spend my summertime doing the REAL work (thinking critically about little guys who I simultaneously want to study in a jar and punt across a field)

if you've ever lived by a body of water (especially the sea) you know that whenever you travel away from it the air tastes and feels very very different. i invite you to imagine ten year old theon gagging at winterfell because there's no salt in the air and it just tastes disgusting
Jesse Pinkman is accidentally the most transgender character ever created. To be clear, he is canonically very clearly cisgender. There's no subtext, at least in my opinion, that could be interpreted as any sort of trans experience. Yet, there's something universally transgender about him. The way he carries himself, the self confidence and goofiness masking a deeply confused individual; the way he looks and dresses, boyish, a style more attributed to young teen boys who are first discovering themselves and their place in the world; his complicated relationships with other men, particularly as father/mentor figures; a sour relationship with his parents.
But really, it's those stupid baggy jeans and graphics tees, with the spiky hair and the sad eyes.
this is how it feels to be transgender
Tullyposting tonight -- picked up ASOS after several months' hiatus & read the Cat chapter with Hoster Tully's funeral. This corresponds to the scene in season 3, episode 3 in the show, which is played for comedy. Edmure isn't able to shoot the arrow which will set his father's funeral boat ablaze, which in the show characterizes him as an immature man in over his head. And don't get me wrong, the scene *is* funny (mostly b/c of Robb trying hard not to laugh, because he's still a teenage boy underneath all that responsibility.)
The scene in the book is so much more powerful, though -- Edmure misses not because he's incapable, but because he's grieving. Brynden Tully doesn't snatch the bow from his nephew, Edmure gives it to him after three missed shots. Even then, it's said that there's no hard feelings and Edmure shouldn't feel bad for missing; it's not going to affect his masculinity or new status as the Lord of Riverrun. There's a great deal more sympathy AND empathy given to him, and that aligns much more with the "Family, Duty, Honor" motto of House Tully. That's MY fish family!!
I just get the sense that the writers/directors didn't really get the essence of Edmure's character and even though he's a minor player, he offers a welcome contrast to the "might makes right" ideology that permeates much of Westeros. Edmure definitely can be immature and it's clear that he's not a particularly great wartime leader, but he's still offering us, the readers, a different performance of masculinity that I imagine would be really warmly received today, seeing how well AKOTSK did. Edmure's a comrade lol

Ohhhhhh Jaime. Jaime Jaime Jaime. You need Adderall I think
hate it when breaking bad fans undermine Jesse by characterizing him as weak and infantilizing him bc of his trauma and emotions as if he isn’t one of the most determined and resilient characters in all of breaking bad. Jesse got so much shit thrown at him and kept getting back up
it’s so funny that 50 year old walter white is the one who gets multiple badass moments where he looks cool and calm and authoritative, meanwhile mid-twenties jesse pinkman literally only ever looks like a mangy soaking wet puppy that can’t walk in a straight line yet and couldn’t intimidate another even smaller puppy
I have like 2.5 more weeks before I can close the door on one of the hardest years of my life and head into summer. This is literally the downhill part and I'm obviously gonna make it. There are going to be better days ahead.
so naturally I'm thinking about Theon at the end of season 5 🙂↕️
if anyone has good Theon takes pls send them to me so I can have some ✨serotonin✨
Once I finish this year, I'm going to visit my parents for about a week and a half. They have a new house by the ocean, and my sister's coming up as well. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to kick off the summer (and honestly this is Greyjoy coded behavior imo)

what character(s) do you associate with the person you reblogged this from?
I'm watching Super 8 for the first time in a few years and god I love this movie. the local A/V club nerds are just openly filming a government coverup as background action for their no-budget zombie movie. the cop's kid is flirting with a 14-year-old car thief by doing her special effects makeup and showing her his model trains. an alien is running around town stealing everyone's microwaves.
