JW: Yeah. It's interesting too in sports– and I think I was talking about it earlier in the summer in an interview. It's a funny kind of comparison I use with, like, fantasy football. So, when I play fantasy football and my players don't do well, I'm like, "This guy stinks!" Like, "Get rid of him!" [laughter] And I catch myself. I'm like, this is exactly what everyone else is doing. So, it's hilarious because the media or anyone that watches the game, it's– they're fans of the game and you– when you're a fan of sports in that way, there's a bit of a human component that leaves and that's part of the fun. Like, we're playing a game you get super involved in, and in order, I think, to maintain a bit of your humanity, you have to have a bit of that separation. And and it's funny because, you know, I will go and say that and then I will fall into the same trap doing the exact same thing when I'm put in the same scenario. JM: You're letting emotion dictate. JW: Yeah. Exactly. So, I just have to, you know, one, keep that groundedness in mind, but at the same time, you know, let all the noise be the noise and I'm going to go be myself, be a human being. And, you know, do the job to the best of my ability.

JW: For me, the perspective I like to take is: I have my structure developed in certain situations. I know I have a good idea of where I'll be out in the net, of the depth, I'll take the stances, I'll move in different release points, all of those kind of things that that happen consistently throughout the game. And I find there's a good way of saying it is, sometimes, you know, people will talk about having– they want to be more creative. They want to be more free. And then what I've actually found in my life is having a basis of structure can allow for more freedom. Right? If you structure– this silly analogy, but if you structure your day and have a bit more structure and routine in your day, well then that frees you up to have more free time in a way. And so silly way to explain it, but it's similar on the ice where– JM: Because you can always rely on it. JW: Exactly. If I have an underlying structure cemented in the way I play, well, then I can move out of that. But if what I'm resorting to is constantly not structure, then that that doesn't show up the other way, if that makes sense. So sometimes having that structure gives you more freedom.

Wait okay I need to recenter Joseph Woll for a moment now because his wonderful Flyers Daily interview dropped on LeBron James Day and then got eclipsed in my brain by you know, LeBron James Day. But I love our new goalie! He is so thoughtful and charming and self-reflective, and it’s such a delight to not need to rpf a male athlete in order to ensoul him. I will still be doing so, of course. But that will just be for the love of the game. You understand.
