In Hinduism there’s a thing called “dharma” which has multiple meanings, but you can kind of loosely translate it into meaning the way things are or the universal doctrine/truth that you’re born into. So a wide range of Hindus believe that because of dharma, and because you white ppl where born into your own specific life you have to follow that life, your forefathers and what has been set up for you. Hindus believe converting to Hinduism or any other religion for that matter would be messing with your Dharma and causing distress and unrest within your life and your families. You can’t convert to Hinduism. Step away from the bindi, Susan.
You can convert to islaam though so holla at your girl and I’ll teach you about it 😘 xxxx
As a fellow Hindu, this is true.
Hindus believe in many things and Dharma is a very important aspect.
Hinduism, like many religions, is very sacred and traditional.
If you want to learn about Hinduism, you are more than welcome, but ‘trying it out’ or ‘going through a Hindu phase’ is not a thing.
Thank you. Namaste.
WRONG
THIS WHOLE POST IS WRONG AND INACCURATE and I am so tired of seeing it on my dash - here’s why!
The whole “You can’t convert” to Hinduism not only untrue, but also ignorant.
Hinduism is a way of life - let’s take a look at the real name of Hinduism
SANATANA DHARMA
SANATANA - eternal
DHARMA - order, law, duty
??how does anyone “convert” to that ?? anyway lets move on
Let’s talk about DHARMA NOW
First, let me say that DHARMA DOES NOT TRANSLATE to “truth that you are born into” please for god’s sake just SHUT UP if you’re not even Hindu *why* are you contributing? Hinduism does not encourage blindly following your family’s religious dogma because you’re not in the club. Just having to acknowledge that could send me into a fit of rage at the ignorance but to continue
READ THIS WHOLE ESSAY FROM A HINDU ABOUT DHARMA AND HOW CONVERSION ISN’T EVEN A THING IN HINDUISM THERE LITERALLY ISN’T A THING ON CONVERSION IN ANY ONE OF OUR BOOKS AND WE HAVE A TON BECAUSE TO BE HINDU YOU NEED TO LIVE UNSELFISHLY BUT JUST READ THIS OK
Lastly, this is personal to me - and this is what I think fueled this post in the first place - cultural appropriation.
Hinduism is ancient - it’s literally been around for thousands of years and not much has changed. Our gods and goddesses have a traditional way of being worshipped, oil lamps, bathing rituals, flower offerings (puja) and 5 forms of Bhakti which are unique ways of praising god, basically. One including YOGA! That’s a whole different post though. That said, using our deities in different religious practices is just disrespectful to the group of people who spent thousands of years preserving our beautiful religion. HOWEVER IMO it is not disrespectful to god to pay homage to them in your own separate faiths (as long as it is in a VERY respectful way and one knows the extensive background of the god or goddess as well as the do’s and don’t of the way we worship) because in Hinduism, the Devi (supreme goddess) Durga specifically said any kind of worship to her is loved and accepted, wholly.
