If you deadname someone in the death note it kills you

In one of the Death Note live action movies (I think it was Light Up the New World), a man changes his name after harboring guilt about past crimes and trying to atone (not even answering to that name). He's only killed after his new name gets put in the book, since he shed his old name.

Man wasn't trans, but if the logic applied to him, logic should apply to trans people too!

I'm curious because the death note didn't work on L even though that's the name that he went by and all the people he interacted with in his life used. His birth name ended up being the more significant one.

On the other hand was clearly a nickname/code name, and I don't think the death note accepts those

I think what matters is the intention of the name. L was clearly using a nickname to not be targeted, having his birth name being the true one. On the other hand, with the dude that changed his name, the birth name didnt represent who he is, because of what it had attached to it, so the new one became his true name, something that does represent him, and asks the world to know him like that, he's not hiding necessarily.
