-------------------------------------------------------
The gardens are peaceful, this time of day. The sunrays drift lazily and glint against his dull scales. Starfruit sat like a cat in the sun, stroking his claws through the soft feathers of one of Divine Vanilla’s wings. His tail brushed the grass, the air still rich with the scent of lilies. It's peaceful, it's everything he's ever wanted.
He doesn't remember a time without pure vanilla, he…doesnt remember much really. But he doesn't need to! Vanilla remembers things for him so he doesn't need to. Vanilla is helping him achieve his destiny, that's what's important - he's helping all of Starfruit's friends find their destiny!
….’friends?’ Starfruit’s brows furrow, his wings shuffling as he racks his brain. There's a laugh, soft - it reminds him of the twinkling of silverbells. There's a fiery red axe…and someone encouraging him to touch a flame - there's a thick accent and him helping pack up a camp; there's an arrow striking a goblin…but starfruit can't picture the faces; his hands halt their motion against the feathers as he tries to recall these people.
They were- they were his friends! How did- why did he forget about them? Why couldn't he remember their names? His chest ached as he blinked, tail flicking back and forth anxiously…Blue cheese, red leicester, lavender cream…nebula paprika- why had he forgotten them, where were they–
“Is something wrong, My star?”
The thoughts trickle out, like water down the drain; Divine vanilla’s thumb gently rubs the gap between his horns and the druid melts, a rumbling purr escaping his throat as he completely relaxes under the touch. The faces get blurry and the names vanish on his tongue as he peers up again.
“Huh? No, i…i was remembering something i think…i- i cant remember what though.”
He huffed, his left foot stomping against the floor in irritation as his tail thumped against the grass; the scent of lilies doing little to soothe him. Divine Vanilla chuckles, and the wing gently pushes Starfruit back and closer into the warmth of his embrace.
“You don't have to worry about those fickle things anymore, My child. Your safe here, there is no need to choose to concern yourself with these things”
His voice is sweet, like a lure that hooks starfruit in - but his brain is too foggy to think much about it as he just relaxes further into Divine Vanilla’s hold. Vanilla is right, whatever Starfruit was thinking about wasn't important enough to keep worrying about it.
“...can I skip my lessons today, pleaaaaase? This…is really nice”
Starfruit whines, a pleading expression on his face as he cranes his neck upright - giggling when Divine vanilla gives an amused huff and rolls his eyes, applying light pressure on Starfruit’s back until the fruit dragon’s wings unfurled and stretched out. The dragonling yawned, curling into Divine Vanilla’s wing as the older deity began to scrape down the scaled wings.
The copper of Starfruit’s scales had begun to discolour into a more cream-orange colouration, and the scales themselves were beginning to grow longer and more oval; more featherlike. It's a good sign, to divine vanilla - a sign that the boy was developing towards his destiny as he should.
“You are not hurting anywhere else, are you My child? No more migraines?”
Divine vanilla asked, and Starfruit peeled his eyes open before replying.
“Not today! I'm just…sleepy.”
There's a low hum, the vibrations running up Starfruit's spine as Divine vanilla accepts his answer.
“Rest then, My Star, you need to keep your energy up.”
The deity answers, going back to gently scratching the base of one of Starfruit’s horns - lulling the small dragon into slumber as the garden rests in peaceful silence.
