#ah me with faust atm tbh...#whats cptsd ToT #granted his situation is mpre complex... neither 'escapable' nor 'inescapable '#it's a torment nexus of his own making (mostly) and in order to escape that one has to not be in his state of mental illness tbh.#tfw you live your life completely ruled by guilt and shame and hatred to a certain degree and turn the thing yiu love into a prison that'll #eventually kill you #but you can't stop because if you stop that guilt and shame will also kill you #mmm..#anyway.#part of the reason he is important to me #is because as of the most recent game he has almost broken that cycle #his main issue is that he kinda very much disabled himself further while simultaneously bringing his story full circle #and that has left him with some other problems... mainly his single focus on his job rather than taking a break to heal #and this means he isn't taking care of himself as much and also isn't really forming connections well still #i really enjoyed the recent short story with leo #where leo took the reigns of conversation and was laying it on thick trying to hire faust as a personal physician. lol #and faust getting flustered the entire time before scampering away at top speed #hehe.#he cannot slow down for longer than two seconds.#anyway... it had been 12 years of tornent nexus for him #with close to a decade of running and running and running #he finds joy... that's important.#ah. joy + grief + fun paranoia #and idk. maybe if we get more faust arc in the future.. he won't be hiding as much.. his mask gone. that would be a satisfying conclusion.#mm..#don't listen to me I'm addled by sleeplessness #and personal feelings about my own life.

this is in yiddish too!! shm-reduplication, so phrases like "fancy-shmantzy" (implying mockery). and not only in hindi ("chai-shai" for tea and snacks) but it also filtered into english used by hindi speakers—e.g. my mother-in-law would always say "party-sharty" to mean a party and then the afterparty/hangout following. it's so beautiful :')

English also had a nicknaming form in the late 18th-early 19th century like this. it involved switching the first letter of a consonant-led name with a P and hyphenating it; the most common example is Peggy and Polly as nicknames from Margaret (Margaret > Meg > Meggy > Meggy-Peggy > Peggy and Margaret > Moll > Molly > Molly-Polly > Polly), but I've also seen "Sal-Pal" and "Sally-Pally" in c. 1810 letters from one specific family here in Boston
