Ilmari Kokkoniemi, Mimori's business partner and the president of Urobune, Inc. A real estate mogul who originates from the Finnish lakeland, specifically the region of South Karelia. He took on an advisory role when the company was just starting out. Although he isn't that much older than Mimori, he has a great deal more experience than her in the realm of business. Mimori might be the face of Urobune, but Ilmari is the one who keeps the whole operation running smoothly. An avid appreciator of heritage fashion and the outdoors, he disdains the flashy nightlife scene of Tokyo and prefers to lead a quiet, private life. He often blends traditional Japanese and contemporary and folk Finnish aesthetics into his outfits, and possesses the cosmopolitan taste of someone well-traveled. He had a very eventful life before taking on his current role, but he keeps his personal history under lock and key.

Holofernes is now a xigou, with a proper anthro design. They love wearing cutoffs and dangerously short shorts like I do in real life. The necklace is one that I've been wearing a lot recently, it's a ceramic pendant with a deer hoofprint.

Mosca and Moloch take a lot more after their mothers than their father, at least in looks. Vigoroso is the patriarch of the del Verme family, with a very traditional view of gender roles and a harsh, domineering approach to child rearing. His wife Magdalini is an artist from a similarly wealthy family of Greek origin, who had very little involvement in raising Mosca despite being present for the entirety of his childhood. Vigoroso had a brief affair with Placidia, an emotionally troubled woman whose conservative Catholic family disapproved of her having a child out of wedlock. She would later abandon the infant Moloch in a foundling wheel somewhere in Calabria, but not before burdening him with a derogatory name — a name that the nuns at the children's home opted not to put on his legal paperwork.

Michio, a dockworker, walked out on his wife and child when Mimori was very young, having become disillusioned with married life. Now freed from a tepid marriage and suddenly having to support herself as a young single mom, Yukine took on various jobs in hostess clubs, which in turn fueled an irresponsible, hard-partying lifestyle. Mimori grew up something of a social pariah in her neighborhood, as Yukine had relationships with married men, and was the cause of multiple divorces in the local community.

Duke Strapp does not have nearly as dramatic a story as the others, he's just Darlene's dirtbag older brother. He struggles to hold down a decent job and hangs out at disreputable bars.

Technically a concept piece that I may or may not ever fix up into a proper ref, but here's an outfit redesign for human!Moloch (which I will also apply to his dog version). I forget how much I've ever talked about him here, but he runs a nightclub and takes inspiration from Greco-Roman mystery religions (and other eclectic historical interests) for his personal aesthetic.

Mimori, in an evening coat based on the outfit of an art doll I got of her a few months ago (made by wynfred1840 on Bluesky). It's a little different from her usual daytime style, and probably too impractically fancy to wear all the time. I imagine this is a bespoke garment she received from Mosca as a gift.

I added some of the doll's stylized features bc I thought it looked cute, but I guess this ended up being like fanart of the doll itself, haha.

I adore tanuki so much, so I made a sona of one (visually inspired by the character designs in Pom Poko, my favorite Ghibli film). Tentatively naming them Koirankieli (meaning "hound's tongue"). Living as part of an invasive population of raccoon dogs in rural Finland, they use their shapeshifting powers to disorient livestock, hunting dogs, and people that venture too close to their den, intentionally mimicking the folkloric phenomenon of Metsänpeitto (in which people or animals get swallowed up by the forest and become invisible to anyone searching for them). Aside from that, their taste for stolen eggs and wild pheasant has made them the bane of local farmers and hunters alike. Their victims always end up finding their way out of the woods, albeit far away from their intended destination, and often with the sense of missing large chunks of time. From the tanuki's perspective, it's kind of like catching a bug with a cup and releasing it outside, if the bug could also kill you.

Their namesake plant, Cynoglossum officinale, was historically used as a sedative (among many other uses), and is also not originally native to Finland, having been spread to Northern Europe by human activity.

Mimori Toda is the CEO of Urobune, Inc., a consumer finance company infamous for its predatory loans aimed at customers with bad credit histories who cannot secure loans from conventional banks. Urobune has done much to present an innocuous public image and distance itself from the stigma of the sarakin firms and illegal loan sharks that are commonly associated with unsecured moneylending, and most people associate Urobune with its marketable cartoon mascot, colorful ATMs, and flashy advertising campaigns. Mimori herself is well known as a local trendsetter and patron of the Kabukichō nightlife scene, where her company operates a number of one-off hospitality businesses and cigarette vending machines. An insufferable egotist and shameless gentrifier who fashions herself as an aesthete and entrepreneur with her finger on the pulse of society and industry alike, she has a vast social network, but few genuine friendships.

Extinct dogsona for another friend. This one is a toy bulldog, with artistic liberties taken on coat coloration. Drawn in a style inspired by antique chromolithograph prints in Cassell's Illustrated Book of the Dog (1890).

When I was designing Ermyne, some of my (non-furry) friends picked out extinct dogsonas of their own, and I thought it would be fun to draw for them. This one is a Talbot hound, with anatomical reference taken from modern Basset hounds.
