i think it’s ok to be frustrated initially that james spends chot unable to tell anyone about the gracelet so long as the connection is later made that he’s an SA survivor and the gracelet is a physical manifestation of that grooming, and that you really wouldn’t expect a survivor to be able to divulge what happened to everyone immediately

i thought the deep-seated shame and fear he felt, and the self-blame for not being able to stop it or recognise it sooner, and not wanting daisy to stay with him out of pity for him were all indicative of the SA metaphor but i see lots of takes where people talk about how annoying james is being for not just telling cordelia

people rag on the miscommunication trope in tlh but i actually think every instance of it is very judiciously used and ascribed believably to the personality and attitudes and past and current experiences of the characters

Michael Wayland is such interesting character because he is by far the most decent member of the Circle, to the point it seems really odd he was in the Circle at all.…and that perception of him is almost exclusively based of Robert’s POV. the other Circle members don’t really mention him at all. His existence is acknowledged, sure, but usually only as an extension of Robert and otherwise insignificant & forgettable. Something that also seems really incompatible with the man Robert tells us about. And imo the reason is just Robert is incredibly biased when it comes to Michael. Michael is great to us because he’s great in Robert’s eyes, he only sees the best version of him.

and this is by far the funniest example of this phenomenon btw. Luke is literally talking about how envious he is of them and all he can say about Michael is that he’s Robert’s parabatai while Robert himself gets three different adjectives 😭😭

man imagine you're a teenager in victorian era Britain where men and women aren't allowed to be alone together for two second lest an impure thought enters someones mind and all traces of the civilized world implodes and you finally do get married to someone and you are living together, you are literally sleeping in the same bed, you are pretty much unencumbered by the societal exceptions regarding what you two do together, and you find them incredibly attractive in every way possible, but you still aren't able to have disgraceful sex whenever you want because in some autistic haze you have convinced yourself that the person who refers to you constantly as "dear" and "darling" and looks at you like your presence alone is enough to make them believe that your people came from angels is married to you for strictly logistical purposes and thinks of you as nothing more than a friend. it must have sucked to be charlotte and henry branwell.

Actually the thing about the Mortal Instruments is that these books are intrinsically tied to 2000s emo culture TO ME. Any proper adaptation of these books would lean heavily into the 2007 of it all and have an all-emo/pop-punk soundtrack.

tessa sleeping with her dead fiancés parabatai has gotta be the craziest thing to happen in tid. don't get me wrong i do understand the scene as two people dealing with their grief by being intimate with each other, it's just wild when you think about it for more than two seconds.
