Want to use a fancy custom language for something, but don’t know how to make one?Use Vulgar!
Vulgar is a conlang (constructed/fictional language) generator created to help literally generate a language for you. No, really. No tricks, and it’s super simple to use. It’s my favourite tool right now for writing fantasy, even as someone who loves creating his own languages, it’s an amazing starting point.
Want a random conlang, straight away, with no prep or fuss? Just visit http://vulgarlang.com/index.html and click “Generate New Conlang”… and that’s it. Scroll down and through your brand new, generated, completely original conlang.
If you’re a little more advanced in terms of conlanging and want to specify IP phonemes to be used, you can add them too, but even with no knowledge of linguistics you can create a language at the click of your fingers.
This version of Vulgar is completely free, sure…. but! the guy who created it has not only made an amazing thing (which I repeat, is absolutely free at it’s most basic point), but is also planning on updating it more and more!
Under the “Buy” tab on the Vulgar website, he links to his email, where you can offer to pay for the full version of Vulgar, which is a total steal right now at a sale price of only nineteen dollars. Considering professional conlangers and linguists could charge you, like, a metric fuck ton of money for the same data you’re getting here for just nineteen, that’s a major steal.
Not to mention, buying the alpha build now gives you free access to all of it’s updated versions, which I can guarantee are just going to get better and better! I’ve already bought it and I adore it, and this is a tool the likes of which we in the conlang community have never seen in such an awesome way.
Please consider helping Vulgar out, because the creator is a damn genius
This is possibly the coolest thing I’ve ever come across

Short RP - Wathais
“Hey Vinny,” Margaretta asked, her feathers splayed out in her strain to relieve the itch. “Could you scratch my back? I can’t reach and it’s driving me nuts.” The harpy tried again, extending a wing so that her talon might finally reach far enough, but no amount of stretching and rolling would get the claw any closer to its goal and she was starting to become desperate. “It’s right… There! Ugh,” she complained, ruffling her feathers in her torment with a scowl.
Nera, Vincent, Tivi and Margaretta. Commission!
I’m having some trouble figuring out what sort of heritage Vincent has, so I could use some feedback if y’all feel so inclined! Please help. :’D
I know that his mother, Nera, is at least half Greek. She comes from Ancient Crete, but I’m not sure whether one of her parents is from from somewhere else and what sort of lineage that parent would have. The only reason I ponder this is because Vinny seems to be mix of many features that are not necessarily prominent in someone of Greek heritage, hence my dilemma. I don’t really want to change his features too much, but I DO want to find out what sort of impression people get from him just by looking. I tend to draw him with some variations, but the constants are that he has a long face with high, defined cheekbones and a very prominent nose. He has slanted eyes, but I’m really planning on giving him hooded eyelids so this makes more sense. His hair is something I like to play with, but it’s usually straight and black. He has an olive or tawny skin color (I honestly can’t find the right term for this thanks internet) so I try to keep him noticeably darker compared to my other OCs. He’s shorter than his mother, but still tall, since he’s 6′1. The only odd thing that I’m keeping out of the equation are his eyes, since they’re unnaturally colored and aren’t easily found on any chart. They’re just cerulean/teal; something I’d like to keep.
His mother is darker-skinned, with very long, wavy black hair that goes down past her waist. She’s also freakishly tall for a woman at 6′3″ but I kinda have to chalk some of that up to her lycanthropy (which is another story entirely.) I admit that her face is fairly generic right now, but hopefully once I get some opinions on this, I’ll have a better direction to go in for the Aljon family.
My current thoughts are that Vinny might have roots in Korea or something similar to the area, though I feel like a lot of his facial structure doesn’t mirror that. So I’m wondering what else could possibly be in his lineage to make him look that way? My other options were maybe something more Native American, but then that opens up a whole ‘nother can of worms because that’s a really broad range of people. Like a lot. I’m also hesitant because it could be problematic and insensitive to just give him a label like that without putting some heavy-duty research into their history and how the heck someone from said tribe would go all the way to Ancient Crete….. I also wonder maybe if there would be some influence from the middle-east?
I know that Ancient Crete was great for trading, so it wouldn’t really be unheard of for Nera to get with someone from one of the ships. I just don’t know where they’d be from or what that could mean for the Aljon family lineage. If Nera is mixed to begin with, what heritage would her other parent have? What effect could this have on Vinny?
Help! :’C
Ok there’s a heap of really good info there already! Just a quick recap for myself to make sure I’ve got the family history correct:
Mother is mixed Greek (ancient). Disregard height as an outlier caused by lycanthropy.
Key features inherited: melanin, length and darkness of hair. Facial structure nominal.
Vinny: Greek (ancient) mixed with unk.
Key features: melanin, length and darkness of hair. Strong, high cheekbones, prominent nose with high root, slanted eyes with epicanthal folds.
Under a cut for length.

See, this is why you're so helpful! I totally forgot to mention the idea of slave trade, which had occurred to me! I just wasn't sure what sort of people were being shuffled around back in ancient times. So that by itself is an excellent starter idea. Especially for Nera and what history might come from that.
I also appreciate the input for Vinny! I've been banging my head against this for several months and haven't been making much headway so it's nice to get some fresh ideas of other places to look. I hadn't known about some of the nationalities you mentioned, so I'll be looking those up and seeing what I can find!
At least this is a better direction than me just flailing my arms at the Internet and trying to find a foothold on my own. So thanks!!! ;w;

3D Tivi! Part of my trade with my good friend nera-aljon. This is her cake eating dragon character named Tivi, sculpted in Zbrush rendered in Keyshot!
Some concept drawings of what 'mermaids' look like in my OC's homeworld. The designs are a first pass based on my very basic knowledge on how undersea life works so these are bound to change, but I'm liking where it's headed so far! I'm thinking that these are more mammal-like than fish, since they are warm-blooded and swim much like cetaceans do, though they have vivid scales that come in all sorts of colors; even iridescent golds and opals. They have large webbed hands that act like pectoral fins, though they can be tucked in to a groove in their side to provide a significant speed boost if necessary. Their teeth are designed to catch fast-swimming fish and other sea life, depending on where they are located. Different mermaids in varying areas of the world have unique features based on their diet and adaptability, though the one I've illustrated here are the most common. These mermaids often decorate their fins with shells and corals, though they covet man-made shinies like coins and mirrors the most. They are highly intelligent and have varying cultures and dialects based on their location and breeding routes, though they are difficult to understand above the surface. Mermaids are most commonly seen in lagoons year round, since these are ideal for raising their young until they are strong enough to swim in the open ocean without help. Babies stay with their mothers until they can fend for themselves, which can take up to ten years, seeing as the larger males are careless enough to eat their own young. As such, the young are in danger until they are fast enough to swim away, or cunning enough to persuade otherwise. Sometimes offering a trade or promise will suffice, though it's not any guarantee. Males can get especially large, built more for fighting and protection than anything, though because of their aggression toward other males, there's very few that actually make it to adulthood. As such, a single male can host a very large harem of females, much like sea lions do, and will fiercely guard their lagoons accordingly. While the females can easily drown a man on their own, the males have been known to sink ships in their wrath, so it's best to steer clear and view a harem from a distance when possible. Mermaids as a whole are very curious however, and will take any given opportunity to explore the unknown, which is why sailors see them so often in their travels. Closer interactions are best made at sea, where there is neutral ground and no little concern for the safety of their young. This is where treaties and trades can be made more safely and securely.

un-doodles said: Aren’t they a thing though? Or are they just friends? Mar and Vinny, I mean.
They’ve never been ‘a thing,’ no, despite what many of my followers may think.
These two aren’t really compatible when it comes to romance, though they do share a very close platonic relationship. They’re more like brother and sister and are known for their immature teasing toward one another more than anything.
Bottom line is that while Vinny is ‘nice’ he’s just too naive and innocent for Mar’s tastes. She wants somebody that can take a few rough nights in bed without being a pissbaby about it. Vinny is all too happy to stay in his little box of safety because of this. He’s much more sensitive than she is and would definitely like the quieter woman that is ok with spontaneous cuddles and sweet nothings. Which is why he and Vanessa work out so well! OTP Vinessa
What you may be remembering is her old AU relationship with Tide, who could easily be mistaken for Vinny since I drew them so similarly... But since I no longer contact the creator of this character, it didn’t seem right to continue the relationship. My headcanon is that Tide moved to Japan and found someone else. Not like Mar was gunna learn Japanese anytime soon anyway.

I think Vinny only really watched Power Rangers when he was growing up and maybe a sprinkling of Dragonball here and there. To be honest, his favorite was probably Sailor Moon, but he isn’t really interested in admitting it openly in front of strangers and acquaintances. Overall, he was more into American cartoons when he was young, though he wasn’t above looking into the newer things when Mar insisted he take a look. Like I said, she was the one that was really into anime back in the day, though she’d probably be pained to talk about it now.
I had a dream where Vincent was my figure model in class, back before I graduated from Ringling. The catch was that he was wearing a beautiful lavender gown, looking more confident than I've ever known him to be, so it really raised some questions for me as his creator. Especially since my view of him might be skewed by what I've learned from the social norm.
For example, my gut reaction to 'why is he wearing a dress' would only be 'because I felt like drawing him in one.' After all, I feel like he is pretty to look at no matter what outfit I use, but what if there's more to it than that? What if I'm the one not seeing the bigger picture?
I dunno. After having that dream, I feel like it's entirely possible that he could be gender fluid. He's always had a bit of insecurity about how feminine he is, but I feel that if he weren't teased about it so much he would be more accepting of those qualities. I guess I'm just wondering, but it's hard to say.
I mean, various people have asked me if he was into dudes in the past but I think there's more to it than that. After all he has had relationships with both men and women, so what I think that what it boils down to is how well he meshes with that person in particular. If he notices them at all! 90% of the time he just isn't interested and is more focused on his work. I'd say demisexual would be the closest bet, but really he's more of a demiromantic? Sex really isn't on his agenda...
I guess it's difficult trying to sort him out when I don't know much about the different sexualities and genders. He really is puzzling and a challenge to figure out, but I guess from now on I'm gonna keep my eyes open for more clues before I go pinpointing anything. Not that he needs a label or anything, but I want to be prepared for what he might spring on me next.
Until then, I'm gonna continue drawing him in the occasional pretty dress because he looks flawless in them.
Luck Dragons
These are a species of dragon that's very new to my headworld, but I feel the need to write down the basic idea of them while they're fresh in my mind. Feel free to send me asks about them!
Luck Dragons, so named after Falcor from The Neverending Story, are a species of wingless dragons that bring various forms of luck to things around them, depending on what they are passionate about. Having a Luck Dragon nearby is a sure way to have better chances of having something good happen, depending on what that particular Luck Dragon likes to do.
For example, a Luck Dragon that enjoys planting and caring for gardens would bring good luck to crops and flowers, preventing disease, frost and insect infestation respectively. Flowers would have vibrant colors and fragrant scents and crops would be plentiful and healthy.
A Luck Dragon that enjoys giving people joy and aid when they're in need might be an overall good-luck dragon that provides small amounts of money or certain possessions to cheer someone up. A child's lost teddybear could be returned, for example, or the last bit of money for rent could pop up in a $100 bill on the street or in a last-minute part-time job.
There are various forms of Luck Dragon, with some of them actually being UnLucky Dragons, or Bad-Luck Dragons. These are dragons that have been taken advantage of or abused in some way and have used up all of their good luck. They have no interest in helping those around them and are completely miserable as a result. Bad things happen to these dragons and those around them. This can be anything from having your car towed to causing serious injury to anyone unfortunate enough to bump into a Bad-Luck Dragon.
The easiest way to make a Bad-Luck Dragon is to strip them of their scales, mane, horns, and teeth. All of these things can grow back, but it causes the dragon extreme pain and unhappiness, which strips them of their luck. The objects themselves are extremely lucky however, which is what fuels the market for Luck Dragon items. It's not uncommon to see jewelry and other objects made with dragon horn, teeth and scales.
Killing any Luck Dragon is a serious offense and can effectively curse the person who committed the crime. For example, killing a luck dragon that brings good harvest would be devastating to the offender. All the plants they own would wither and die; anything they bought thereafter would be diseased, infested or close to rotting within the next day. Killing a dragon that brought luck through possessions would have their things stolen, broken or lost. Killing a dragon that dealt with giving good dreams would only have nightmares, etc.
Identifying a Luck Dragon wouldn't be very easy either, since they have human forms to disguise themselves in. Though there are some clues! Their dragon colors would almost always reflect their human hair color, with a bit more vibrancy added in. A dark-haired dragon would be black, with a bit of iridescent in the scales. A pale dragon that has freckles in human form might have flecks of pink in their scales, or koi-like markings. Albino individuals might have opal or translucent scales, while those with vitiligo would have spotted patterns, etc. Their face shape, body type and other features that made them stand out as an individual would all transition into their dragon selves. As a result, Luck Dragons can be the most varied-looking species. However, all of them can be described as long, wingless Eastern-looking dragons that possess a valuable pearl at all times.
This pearl is vital for accessing their power. It is essentially the core of what they are and is the most guarded object that a Luck Dragon can possess. Without one, a dragon cannon change forms or its size, fly, or use any of its magic by its own will. As such, it's impossible for a dragon to be much more than a living good luck charm without it.
However, a dragon isn't born with their pearl. A dragon pearl is something that is earned, found, or handed down through the generations in a new form. They must be created or chosen by the dragon that will wield it.
Creating a dragon pearl requires a great deal of magic, perhaps stored over years for the occasion. They are most often created from stone or crystal, but it's not unheard of to have one made of fossilized material or man-made objects like manufactured glass or metals. Whatever the object is made out of usually represents that person best in some way; usually as a favorite color or as a mirror of their aura, or sense of self.
Because these pearls cannot be made without the dragon, it can take years before the Luck Dragon itself can realize its true potential. It's not uncommon for a dragon to be raised unaware of its ancestry until they begin to realize what sort of influence they have on the world around them. They may not access their dragon form until they discover their pearl and create it for themselves, which is why you'll hardly ever see a young Luck Dragon noodling about outside in the playground with other children.
As such, Luck Dragons are very short-lived compared to other dragon species. They can live for up to 150 years, with disease, illness, and other various mortal factors shortening their lifespan. The species as a whole are content in living short eventful lives that bring joy to others, rather than risk bringing bad luck on the world for their apathy in old age.
The oldest dragons are pure white and are the most revered as the pinnacle of their species. It is a dragon that have lived a long life and have brought countless moments of happiness to people all over the world and should be celebrated before their eventual death.
The land of unrealized dreams (by Siréliss)
I am positive this is Nera's favorite thing to do ever
I keep playing with the idea that Margaretta and other Vampires from my canon-verse can hear heartbeats, though I'm not sure what sort of hearing range she has as a result. She can definitely hear a heartbeat within the space of a room, but certainly nothing over 50ft. It's useful for when, say, her prey is hiding somewhere out of view and has trouble locating them otherwise. The downside to this is that I doubt that she can hear anything above 24Hz. Music must sound incredibly different to her without any treble-range in there. Great for bass-lovers but most of the music she listens to probably lacks some of the higher-range lyrics and instruments.
Flutes, xylophones and bells are probably silent or extremely difficult to hear. Like dog whistles are for humans. She might hear a hint of it, but not much.
I can see her going to an opera way back when and just sitting there wondering why this soprano was just moving their mouth like a mime on stage. Kinda ruins the fun of it I guess but there ya go.
Some old books have hidden messages on the edge of their pages.
This was done through a technique called “fore-edge painting,” which is an illustration that is hidden on the edge of the pages of the book. The technique allegedly dates back to the 1650s.
I'll bet Mar has some of these stashed away >w>
