Someone was looking at him. He couldn't sense who, his eyes were useless right now.
It was itchy, his forehead was being rubbed with sandpaper, it was his hair, he was being unreasonable. The armor wasn't heavy enough to be anything but an accessory, it was pressing down hard, he'd have bruises soon.
"General? Are you alright?" cut through his haze, split his head in two, there was someone next to him, how dare someone so insignificant even talk to him on the Executor, he didn't even know their name, they were below his attention.
"General?"
He was on fire. A brand on his arm, Sidious was playing his tricks again. He did not belong to anyone, no, no, no, Obi-Wan had told him so, he was a free man. He had killed Obi-Wan, he was free from the chains of the Jedi, the dark side set him free in a blaze of glory.
There was flesh under his glove. Not his. Shoved against the table, their face smashed into the metal frame, this was a clone. Had he not fought together with them? He needed to go now, it was too loud, too much, he was a coward.
And so, he fled, incomprehensible shouting marring his abused ears.
Okay, this moment happened some time ago in the fic, but it really stuck to me, a panicked Vader trying to give his body sustenance, but since he is unused to having fully functional senses and being around people in a casual setting, he is having a Horrible Time, and there to try and help him is his younger self's trusted Captain Rex, who attempts to calm him down with a light touch. However, Vader is Vader and so no man stays unchoked in his vicinity, even if by accident and when he has time traveled to his younger body.
What is important to note, at least to me, is that Vader has no recollection of choking Rex, all he registered at that moment that the flesh under his glove wasn't his. And as such, the story is left with a confused and hurt clone captain and a completely oblivious Sith Lord who doesn't understand why Skywalker's captain has beef with him.
