cadence looked up at the girl. â um, you know.. â but even she didnât have an explanation for what she was doing, which was kind of a mix of trying to read a book and trying to tie her shoe without dropping the book. â a thing. â
âNot to tell you what to do,â Maryam said slowly, eyeing the book held precariously in the other girlâs hand, âBut maybe you should do one thing at a time? Just an idea.âÂ
The other girl shrugged up at her sister, stretching out over the open book on her lap and another one on the ground in front of her to reach out and get the apple. âIâll get it later. Iâm all settled now.â She said, gesturing to the 3 to 4 books flipped open to rnaodm spell pages near her, music laying from her phione in her bag. âItâs fine â Iâll grab one come dinner time or somehting. No big.â She admitted to her sister. They werenât very close, Jo maintaining her distance because she didnât want to impose on her and Yasir, but she did sill enjoy talking to her.
Jo could take care of herself just as well as Maryam could, so she didnât push it. The last thing she would have wanted was for someone to try to convince her to abandon a spell when she was working on one--which she currently wasnât, and probably should have been... a frown dimpled her cheeks, but she brushed it away almost immediately. âWorking on anything special?â Might as well try to make conversation, right? She wasnât imposing too much...  hopefully.Â
Why not? Venus fly traps are cute!â
âPlants arenât really my thing.âÂ
âI do try. Big brothers wouldnât be much if they didnât bother their siblings.â
âLong as you know that little sisters have to do the same.âÂ
Nose buried deep in a spell book, the daughter of Hecate sat against a tree overlooking the commons of camp. With an apple in one hand and the other holding the spine of the book, she didnât even notice someone passing rather close until she jumped, slightly startled. The apple rolled out of her hand and hit the otherâs foot. âDammit. One good piece of food I had today.â
Maryam chuckled softly, looking at the apple for an absent moment before bending down to pick it up, dusting it off on the hem of her shirt. âYou know you can get more, right?â It was hardly as if she was particularly close to her sister, but she did care about maintaining her health. âI can run and grab you something if you want to keep reading.âÂ
âGrowing Venus fly traps what are you doing?â
âDefinitely not that.âÂ
âEh, just makinâ fun of you.â
âBig brother of the year, right here.âÂ
