The Spectacular Stories of Spider-Web
Charlie opens her eyes, waking up in bed. She sits up, stretches, and gives a slight smile toward her Captain America poster. She crawls out of bed and rolls onto the floor. She then sits up sitting in a criss-cross. Lifting her mattress up she grabs two pill bottles, opens them and takes some pills. She smiles a bit and puts them back. Sighing she stands up and walks out the door and into the bathroom. Looking into the mirror she frowns as she sees all her own issues immediately. She takes her hand and covers her face in the mirror. She walks out the bathroom and downstairs to see Christine cooking.
”By the way, your Dad and I are going out later. So we’ll need you to house sit.” Christine said.
“But I told you guys last week that I was hanging out with Dan today.” Responded Charlie.
”I know but we really need you to be here in case our package gets here.” Christine says.
Charlie sighs heavily and says. “I guess I can come home early.”
Charlie sits there silently waiting for something. She gets up and walks to the front door to put her shoes on.
”Don’t you wanna eat before you go?” Christine asks.
”I’ll pick something up while I’m out.” Responded Charlie.
She walks out the door and stands there to put in her earbuds. She looks down at her phone to find a playlist to listen to. She picks the playlist called ‘Songs That Mean Something to Me’. She starts walking off into the crowd on the sidewalk.
Charlie started to think to herself. ”I really don’t mind coming back early. It’s just been a long time since I’ve seen Dan. Yeah but you told them ahead of time, and I know you wanted to spend more time with Dan. You're right, but I’d do anything for them. They’re all I got.”
”Charlie! Over here!” Dan yelled joyfully.
”Dan! How are you buddy ol pal of mine?” Charlie asked while smiling.
”Haha, I’m doing alright. Got my own place now after the whole ‘family incident’ went down.” Dan responded.
”Glad you're finally out of there. I know it got rough after you came out.” Charlie said.
”Eh, I’m top of the world now. Got a job, an apartment, I’m living like royalty!” Dan exclaimed.
”Hahaha get down you goof.” Charlie laughed and then asked. “Anyway, we heading to Sammy’s Cafe?”
“Absolutely! I could go for a chai latte right now.” Dan said.
They made their way down the street. After walking a few blocks they come upon Sammy’s Cafe. They walk in to see a man polishing some mugs.
”Welcome to Sammy’s Cafe. What can I, oh, been a minute since I’ve seen you two kids in here.”
”Hi Mr. Wynn.” Charlie greeted.
”How much trouble have you two been getting in?” Mr.Wynn asked.
”As much as we possibly can of course.” Dan responded.
”Hahahaha! Good, that's fantastic!” Mr. Wynn exclaimed. He then asked the two. “So do y’all want your usuals then?”
”Do you remember our usuals?” Charlie questioned.
”Of course. Simple Chai Latte for Dan, and a Frozen Caramel Coffee for Charlie. Now you two go sit down while I make your drinks.” Mr. Wynn waved off the two while he started making their drinks.
Charlie and Dan went to sit down at a corner booth. The corner was the biggest booth table in the Cafe.
”Man I really missed this place.” Charlie said.
”Missed it? I’m sure you came back a few times since I left.” Dan said.
”No not really. This was our spot you know. It just didn’t feel right.” Charlie responded.
”Don’t get all mushy on me Chambers. Hey I’m not even that far away now. So we couldn’t definitely do this more.” Dan said.
”I know I’d certainly like that.” Mr. Wynn said as he placed the drinks on the table.
”Thanks Mr. Wynn.” Charlie said, but she had noticed a bandage sticking out from Mr. Wynn’s sleeve. “Mr.Wynn are you alright.” Charlie asked.
”What do you- Oh the bandage. It’s just a little trouble with that new gang going around. They took me by surprise and got me. Won’t be happening again.” Mr. Wynn explained.
”Wait gang? What’s going on with that?” Dan asked worriedly.
“They’ve been terrorizing this part of the city. Been trying to ‘take their claim’. They wear jackets with their gang name and logo on it.” Charlie explained.
”Wait like full high school clique jackets?” Dan chuckled.
”It’s really not that funny. They’ve done a lot of damage to the local shops here.” Charlie sighs and continues. “Their logo is a person held by strings and they go by The Puppets. It’s dumb but they aren’t something to mess with.”
”Sorry, just didn’t realize.” Dan said.
”Nothing to be sorry about Dan. Just be careful with that gang you two.” Mr. Wynn said.
”We promise.” Charlie and Dan said.
Mr. Wynn walks away and the two friends are left alone to chat for a bit. After some time has gone by Charlie pulls out her phone to check the time.
”Crapbaskets, I gotta start heading out.” Charlie says disappointed.
”Hey it’s all good. I'll walk you home.” Dan responds.
Charlie and Dan wave goodbye to Sam and start walking down the street. Dan looks up at the sky.
”Looks like it’s gonna rain. Might need to stop somewhere to get an umbrella.” Dan said.
”You can borrow one of mine when we get to my place.” Charlie recommends.
The clouds get darker as they walk, and thunder can be heard from above. Suddenly lightning starts striking around the city.
”Did you see that?! it was so close!” Charlie said joyously.
”Maybe we should hurry a bit back to your place.” Dan recommended.
”Let’s cut through the alley up ahead.” Charlie said.
They walk through the alley and continue to walk till Charlie walks into a spider web.
”Pleh Pleh! I think it got in my mouth.” Charlie said, shocked.
“Hahahaha! That was priceless!” Dan exclaimed.
”Yeah yeah lets just keep walking.” Charlie responded.
They walked out of the alley, thunder and lightning still happening above. Charlie had a weird feeling and looked at the hairs on her arm raising. She was so focused she didn’t realize a spider was crawling up her neck. Suddenly the rumble of the lightning was crystal clear, an energy could be felt where she stood. Without warning a bolt of lightning raced out of the sky and struck Charlie. The rush of electricity forced the spider to bite Charlie on the neck. The lightning left as fast as it arrived. Leaving Charlie to fall to the pavement passing out.
