When I think of my dad, I hear his loud cackle of a laugh in my head. He wasn’t particularly much of a joker, but he enjoyed laughing. There are two running jokes we had that my mind always goes back to.

We are at home, minding our own business i.e. not taking the chicken out to defrost and/or not turning the rice cooker on, and we hear the gate open and mom parking her car. “MAAMMEEE FAAAN LEI LAAA” (mom is back) we would yell, and rush to do everything we’re supposed to do. Mom walks in and we are immediately chill. This is hilarious because there is no reason for us to be freaking out (maybe there is plenty of reason), but mom would not yell and we were just being silly.

It’s early in the morning, I get up late for college, and we dash into his old tiny Kancil. I yell “GO GO GO” and he revs his tiny Kancil to the pickup point for my ride. The journey barely takes 2 minutes. We reach and my ride isn’t here yet. We exclaim and rejoice like we’ve won the Grand Prix. “YYESSSSS” and we high five.
We did these things all the time and they were always hilarious and I love him so much and I write this so I will never forget his goofy.
