X-MEN APOCALYPSE REWIEW warning spoilers (captain america civil war + xmen)
HI ! I’m back after a break for a new review. This time I will not talk about an anime but about a marvel movie.
As a big fan of marvel I was like everyone really impatient for the new captain america civil war but even more for x-men apocalypse. The x-men franchise is my favorite one out of all the others from marvel; thus I was really existed but also on my guard. I was scared for two reasons : 1) I was already a bit disappointed about civil war and 2) that the movie will be bad and so ruined my love for the x-men saga . However it was really good.
First of all, the new cast is pretty good. I will compare with civil war because the two movies came out in the same period of the time and had some similarities. The cast of civil war wasn’t what I excepted. I was really happy when I saw that black panther will be in the movie and later have a movie, but I din’t really like the actor. I mean he wasn’t that bad but sometime you don’t really feel them. But the black panther’s costume was amazing. However, black panther wasn’t as disappointing as spider-man.  Spider-Man is my favorite superhero since childhood, I was really heart broken with the “amazing spider-man” and I really hoped that the new spidey will be good. It was not. First of, the costume! WTF. A lot of people freak out when they saw it in the trailer and I can understand. The first costume (from Spider-man 1,2,3) was the best one and I don’t understand why they haven’t kept it. Anyway, the actor wasn’t good either, he looked like he was trying to hard to be funny (not the actor’s fault, the script/stage direction is also the problem here). Now that this is off my chest I’ll stop complaining about civil war. In general it was not that bad. The action scenes were incredible, the story was interesting as well even if the end was a bit off.
Back to x-men ! The cast was, in contrary of civil war, great ! Sophie Turner showed that she isn’t only Sansa Stark and I loved it. From her looks to her acting everything was on point. Tye Sheridan, really good cyclops just like Kodi Smit-McPhee was a really good Nightcrawler. About nightcrawler, I like the fact that they made him even more silly than the previous ones. Lets get to Apocalypse, during a talk with my cousin we thought that Apocalypse would be a flop because of the adaptation. The character is so unique that it was either going to be really good are really bad, there was no in between. Oscar Isaac amazed me once again, the first time in star wars and now in xmen. The make-up and special effects teams did an amazing job. If I didn’t know he was in the movie, I wouldn’t have noticed that it was him. I felt a bit let down by Angel, I really like this character but you didn’t see much of him in the movie. Thank god Wolverine was there even if it was just for a few minutes, I couldn’t wait to see what happen to Logan. Fortunately, he has his adamantium skeleton and so strength.To finish on the characters, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Nicholas Hoult did not disappoint me. They were really good in first class and in days of the future past. They were amazing as always <3
Secondly, the story. Due to X-men days of the future past, everyones life has been re-written. To know that Erik managed to have a family was so fulfilling but also really sad because his past came back and made him go on a killing frenzy, again. What i’ve noticed with the x-men prequels (expect xmen origins) is that they really show you Erik’s feeling and unfair life, indeed you have more empathy for him and you can understand more about why he is like that, the other xmen shows you a badass assholes that wants to rule the world. Even though the story is dark the movie isn’t, for example the Batman vs Superman movie is really gloomy (the way it’s film) in the xmen you have a lot of details and all of the effects are done beautifully.
The costumes/makeup are also amazing they don’t look as cheap as spider-man’s new costume !
To conclude, the end is a great twist (SPOILERS). You see, Professor Xavier never intended on fighting against humans are even train against some kind of war. Although, he changes his precedent philosophy and starts to train against the sentinel. In addition the facts that they train against Sentinels, particularly shows that the war that wasn’t supposed to happen (x-men days of the future past) might happen. Indeed, the very last scene after the credits shows that the someone goes back to Srykers’ and takes some of the weapon x with them. Does it mean that they will be an other human/mutant war ? Or is it an other human/mutant enemy ? Moreover, we’ve learn from all the x-men movies that Wolverine’s power/ DNA is really important weapon. So who took it ?
