I did this a while ago, but I never finished the second part. I've been in a bit of an art slump, and I don't think I'm ever going to finish it tbh. so... yeah

Being an artist means spending time during exam season to add details, only to realise you liked it more without them.
I built up this whole story in my head that Remus took this photo and sent it to Hagrid. Halfway through, I realised you can't take a photo if you're in it.

I've said it before, but when there is at least 'One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi' - and wizarding sweets and drinks do crazy things - I find it hard to imagine any wizard doing tobacco. Especially in the form of a cigarette.
It's one of those things that pops up in fanart and fanfiction that pulls me right out of it lol Unless there's a good reason a wizard is smoking a factory-produced muggle cigarette... its just so jarring
How did they get it? How did they learn about it? Why did they start? Why do they continue to do it when they have a world of magical recreational drugs and effects? How do others react to this strange habit? Do they get currency exchanged from Galleons to Pounds to buy it? Is there a Wizarding store that imports them? Why would they be popular enough to sell to wizards who have more exciting and less harmful drugs growing in their left shoe?
Of course - all of these can be satisfyingly answered. But I feel like they're rarely tackled at all lol cigarettes are just thrown in because we're used to seeing them. But I wouldn't give McGonagall a Ute to drive around in because I'm used to seeing them
Thank you for this because it got me thinking about smoking in the WW and my initial knee-jerk reaction was pipes. They so have pipes that can be filled with various things and not regular muggle cigarettes. But, I wanted evidence, so here it goes:
For a famous place, it was very dark and shabby. A few old women were sitting in a corner, drinking tiny glasses of sherry. One of them was smoking a long pipe.
(Leaky Cauldran, PS)
Most of the light was coming from a large fire at the far end of the room. A haze of pipe smoke hung in the air like battle fumes
[...]
Mundungus fumbled nervously in his pockets, still staring at Harry, and pulled out a grimy black pipe.
He stuck it in his mouth, ignited the end of it with his wand, and took a deep pull on it. Great billowing clouds of greenish smoke obscured him in seconds.
(Basement kitchen at Grimmauld, OotP)
Professor Grubbly-Plank appeared at Professor McGonagall’s shoulder, smoking a pipe and holding a copy of the Daily Prophet
(OotP)
a haze of pipe smoke hung over several elderly warlocks deep in conversation
(Slughorn's party, HBP)
and all of these wizards were currently sitting a short distance away under a tree; Harry could see a blue haze of pipe smoke issuing from the spot.
(The wedding, DH)
Clearly, wizards smoke and use pipes pretty regularly and its common to see among older wizards spesificly. And as Harry describes blue and green pipe smoke, @dufferpuffer is correct in wizards smoking plants that aren't just tobacco.
I could find no mention of cigars or cigarettes. It seems younger generations don't smoke as much as older ones in general and the characters we do see smoke do so from pipes.
Wizards and Witches smoking pipes :)
Either Severus had no other Lily pictures, or he just really loved taking pictures of Lily. Personally, I'm inclined to believe the latter as lokwey I would be the same. #downbad
