Ronda, Spain 🇪🇸
Ronda is one of the most historic and dramatic towns in southern Spain. It is located in the region of Andalusia and is famous for being built on both sides of a deep gorge called El Tajo Gorge.
The town has ancient origins dating back to Celtic and Roman times. Under the Roman Empire, it was known as Acinipo and became an important settlement. Later, Ronda flourished during the period of Al-Andalus and developed into a significant cultural and military center.
One of Ronda’s most famous landmarks is Puente Nuevo, an impressive stone bridge completed in 1793 that spans the gorge and connects the old and new parts of the city.
Today, Ronda is known for its spectacular scenery, historic architecture, and Spain’s oldest bullring, Plaza de Toros de Ronda. It remains one of the most visited destinations in Andalusia and a symbol of traditional Spanish heritage. 🇪🇸

ASTRONOMY PICTURE OF THE DAY June 1, 2026 at 05:00PM The explosion is over, but the consequences continue. About twelve thousand years ago, a relatively normal star in the constellation Vela suddenly exploded, creating a strange point of light briefly visible to humans living near the beginning of recorded history. The outer layers of the star crashed into the interstellar medium, driving a shock wave that is still visible today. The featured image, taken piecemeal over 60 hours from the Khomas Region of Namibia, captures some of that filamentary and gigantic shock in visible light, with details highlighted by hydrogen (red) and oxygen (blue) emissions. As gas flies away from the detonated star, it decays and reacts with the interstellar medium, producing light in many different colors and energy bands. Remaining at the center of the Vela Supernova Remnant is a pulsar, a star as dense as nuclear matter that spins around more than ten times in a single second.
