I'm only a little bit into Chapter 4 but as I experience the transfem Ralsei stuff myself it is kind of nuts just how much Ralsei and Jax are like. On exact opposite ends of the closet transfem scale. Self-loathing girls who dehumanize themselves and deny their own personhood and don't perceive themselves as real people and don't feel like they should be treated as people. One has never let herself want and has therefore never realized she's a woman. One knows on some level she's a woman and is in heavy denial. One sees herself as an object, one sees herself as a character, both see themselves as fulfilling some kind of role (The Funny One, or The Prince From The Dark), neither see themselves as people, let alone women. Except one of them is kind and denies her own personhood in service of fulfilling The Prophecy and making those around her happy, and one is an asshole and pushes people away and denies her own personhood to continue lying to herself and everyone around her. Desperately trying to serve everyone, versus desperately trying to push everyone away. Selflessness versus selfishness, both borne out of some kind of self-loathing. I'll probably revisit this thought once I've completed Chapter 5 but it is impressive. They're on opposite ends of a sliding scale, but they're on the same scale.
Rewatching Lord of the Rings and one of the things that hit me about Boromir this time is that he’s one of those people who reacts really badly to not being trusted. It brings out his worst qualities immediately.
how come nobody ever told me before that Noelle only agrees to ride the Ferris Wheel with Kris if you choose to vote for the two of them becoming King and Queen and show her the ballot because wow.
before you actually do that, the point behind her refusal is that she doesn't think Kris could want to ride with her (for reasons other than pranks), once again proving that Kris was the one keeping the distance this entire time, not her.
but the singular proof that yes, they remember, remember what they had back then and that one specific way to misspell their names to show they still care, is enough to sway her own vote and get her to agree to the ride. for old time's sake. for knowing the old times meant as much to Kris as they do to her.
This Dan Piraro comic always makes me cry.
When I lived in London there was a murder of crows that lived near me. I fed them often, they brought me presents (shiny rubbish and cigarette butts they found on the floor to thank me.)
When I moved, I’m certain they understood I was leaving because I had all my stuff and gave them lots of food and compliments.
But, they chased down my friend who lived in the next burrough over. They had recognised that friend with me several times and followed them to their house when they couldn’t find me.
They adopted my friend and it was now my friend’s job to bring them snacks and receive the presents.
This was maybe 6-7 years ago.
I visited London last year. Went to see my friend. The crows all not only recognised me, they tracked me down. We got into my friend’s flat and not twenty minutes later there was chaos on the balcony.
We open the curtains, the entire fucking murder is there shouting because they wanted to see me.
Crows are the very best birds.
despite everything, even the fact that this is another universe, it's still kill or be killed
More like seal or be sealed. But like, yeah, and I really love how this conflict happened with the Flower Kingdom not just because of the Flowey allusions, but also because Flowery and the other Flowers are some of the most sympathetic Antagonists the Fun Gang has ever faced... and these are the ones they ended up in an irrevocable conflict they couldn't resolve peacefully with.
I have a whole post in my Drafts, about how Important it feels that 'It's Kill or Be Killed", even when it ends up being kinda true, is not used by Undertale and Deltarune the way that Flowey seemed to think about it, as a permission to do violence and be selfish, how it's more often then not a Tragedy that makes you wish things could be different.
In that way, Flowery is the spiritual successor not just of Flowey's role in Undertale, but also of Asgore's....
I think that eridian scientists would really enjoy testing Grace's ability to see. I feel like echolocation is Comprehensive but Limited in range. Like, sure, through doors and walls but only up to uhhh maybe 50m? (i dont know how to guess scale in space scenes. 100m?)
In the book somewhere in the tunnel scenes (so I hear) rocky freaks out that grace returns later than he agreed because he slept in. That implies that rocky couldn't hear the ship from his part of the tunnel.
Compared with humans that can see for MILES unless something gets in the way.
They're absolutely chucking lampposts in all kinds of weird places to see if Grace can see them from the edge of his biodome at night.
