here is my himbo son:
depression tw
- The one and only child of a construction magnate and real estate agent, Caleb grew up in the best and worst of both worlds -- his father’s obsentiate wealth mixed with her mother’s working-class upbringing.
- He was raised by his mother for most of his life, as his father was almost always away on business and came home bearing expensive gifts as an apology for being away.
- Described by his teachers as easy going, the kind of chatterbox that loved making friends but he was an average student on his best day, too distracted to focus on schoolwork otherwise.
- Middle school science teacher brought up the possibility of Caleb having ADHD at a parent/teacher conference but that was quickly shot down.
- Above all, Caleb enjoyed illustration, he was damn good at it once he focused though his projects often took time to complete.
- Grandiose plans to major in illustration at a college whose professors were industry experts and work in the comic book industry.
- But he dropped out after two semesters due to a depressive episode that lasted longer than normal.
- His father hired him as a laborer in his construction business and he took to it like peanut butter and jelly. It was seen as another apology and a way to keep an eye on him but Caleb was none-the-wiser. Low stress level and a decent work to life balance meant he thrived.
- Though it likely helped he was seeing a therapist who worked with him on relaxation techniques and balancing his symptoms.
- Relationships never lasted. He’d fall fast and hard, then get bored and he hated that quality about himself so he often gave people reasons to leave.
- He chatted up Jade in a bar, unable to resist his flirtations as he had met her in passing at his father’s construction company and thought she was insanely beautiful and charming to boot.
- Naturally he bought what she was selling and fell hopelessly in love with her, readying himself to propose to her when she left him in the dust.
- He looked at the relationship with a magnifying glass, wondering when everything went wrong and couldn’t find anything. It was the happiest he had ever been.
- Denial. Anger. Depression. Bargaining. Acceptance. He continuously cycled through them all, though the depression kept lingering as much as he tried to keep himself in check.
- One day on a whim, he quit his job without notice and left town, giving his mother his new address, and moved to King’s Head Harbor for a fresh new start where he wouldn’t be constantly bombarded with memories of her.
- But life has a way of working out in funny ways...
