this is a silly thought but I was looking over the prompts again for makeitsexyforbucktommymarch and saw the one for nipple play and now I'm thinking about Buck and Tommy being friends and seeing each other pretty regularly again and Buck just not being able to stop staring at Tommy's nipples.

Like...it's not his fault! There's just always there--hard and poking through Tommy's clothes no matter how many layers he wears!

Buck wants Tommy to add more layers and at the same time he wants Tommy to just take them all off. He wants to get his hands under Tommy's shirts and squeeze (god he's missed those tits) and he wants to run his hands over the fabric and pinch and roll Tommy's nipples between his fingers (Tommy always loved the extra friction when Buck played with them over his clothes).

He wants to put Tommy in the collar with the nipple clamps--the one with the rose-gold chain and pearl chains that bounce against his chest when Tommy rides him, the ones he can tug and tug until Tommy comes untouched.

They're sitting at Tommy's kitchen table eating the breakfast Tommy made them and Tommy's telling Buck a story that Buck keeps losing the plot on and he's pretty sure he's been sucking on the same piece of fruit as he just stares and fantasizes about crawling into Tommy's lap and begging him to let Buck have a taste.

Tommy kicks his foot and says his name, probably not for the first time.

Buck shakes his head and says, "what? I'm listening."

Tommy just smirks and says, "something on your mind?"

i don't think tommy is going to return to 911 except as a part of a possible (likely or unlikely, i don't know) final conclusion to buck's story, when either the character or the whole series is concluding. at first, i found their breakup upsetting because i thought the relationship had the potential for interesting and fun emergency stories with an added element of new stakes for buck. and it still does. but i also think that there's still material in tommy's absence that i like and have always found, as a story audience member, compelling.

in a way, the outside-ness feeling of being queer can be interpreted as agential through tommy's character. his character chose to leave several times, set a line and didn't cross it, so "choice" is a repeated part of how the character functions. he also chose to be the high-risk bird-eye rescuer on an additional axis and his character was written to serve as specific adding-on and problem-solving and character-revealing forces in the story. the presence of character who is these things, even if maybe heartbreaking to a beloved main character in some instances of "choice," is a great idea i think to the fabric of the whole 911 narrative. "what can be deliberate" is a purposeful theme in the general story and also a well-trod one in many tv dramas with personal human stories. some characters are happened-to by the story and some characters happen the story and sometimes these things switch around in characters in a still airing series, even if some characters trend more towards one than the other. tommy as consistently being an instigator of story every time he appears, maybe by virtue of his side-character-ness, is an interesting thing to come away with and think about and to imagine on-top-of how he can further shape the story.

just gonna say this very unpopular take. Harry is Bobby’s kid. Sure. BUT HE’S NOT BOBBY’S LEGACY!

Buck is the legacy. We’ve all seen that. It’s literally been playing for the last 8 seasons!

You can’t just all of the sudden bring some kid we only see once or twice a season at best (whose face isn’t even consistent btw) to take that role just because you’re running out of shit to write.

This is so disrespectful and tasteless. What is this show doing???

Buck, so far, has been both "dismissive" AND super stuck on Tommy. For close to TWO years! He let's everyone else know how much he cares about him, but says all the wrong things when actually with him (the move in convo, doesn't mention how much he missed him, lashing out after the hookup, etc). He fucking beams when Tommy gives him even a scrap of attention and care (and for you), but likely never apologised (as he said he would to Maddie).

Looking at it from Tommy's perspective, I can't fault him for being confused af. It looks like a classic case of baby's first gay relationship. Doesn't know what he wants exactly but is super enthusiastic. Buck does disrespect their relationship many times (like that anniversary date). Likely didn't respect their limited time together either, what with Eddie and other drama.

All those words just to say that, Buck is showing how immature he truly is when it comes to expressing himself or making himself available in a romantic relationship. He has grown in many other ways but in both of his "most transformative" relationships (Abby and Tommy), he's very disconnected from the reality (as the other person sees it) of their situation.

No point really, just trying to put into words what's actually canon and how Buck's been written so far. He still has much to learn, separate from Tommy's own issues. Maybe he really does need to "figure out how to be a half".
