Recently the USA stated that in the UN that it will not lift sanctions against Cuba because Cuba continues to (somehow) prove itself to be an anti-democratic society that bases itself on political repression (???), and in response the Cuban UN Twitter account went HARD

I love how this list talks about “voter registration” in CUBA. Keep in mind their most recent president: Miguel Diez-Canal was the only candiate on the ballot AND was chosen because he was a man who would continue the castro legacy after the fact. Here’s an article that outlines this

Look, as a trans person currently facing actual legal discrimination I’m all for this whole “Let’s shit on the US” is a current mood for me at the current moment–But blindly glamorzing a country that has commited VERY VERY grave human rights violations trying to paint it’s self as a “innocent uwu” island country without taking into account that it’s ruled by an oppressive authoritarian government that thrives by its self serving propaganda.

Hey did you know Cuba does free HRT for all trans Cuban citizens? Or that in the 1980s Castro himself took responsibility of correcting the crimes of the revolution towards the LGBT+ community? One thing that might be interesting to note is that in 2007 the voter turnout was 95%, compared with countries such as the US where voter turnout has historically always been around 50% - if the US is really more democratic than Cuba, then why do so few people bother to vote? It’s almost as if vast swathes of people feel voting does nothing towards their political representation.

microwaving aluminum specifically is known to cause arching, which can cause fires! (thick aluminum is fine, but thin aluminum like aluminum foil, and I assume the edge of an opened can is Not)

on top of that microwaving liquids can be dangerous as they get hot extremely quickly.

The most mind-blowing moment, not only for De La Mata but the scientists too, came when they managed to actually record the sounds that she heard in her ears – which now appear as ‘Left Ear’ and ‘Right Ear’ which begin sides A and B on the album – and in doing so opened up questions about the nature of tinnitus itself. “The NHS definition is that it’s a phantom sound that your brain is creating, that it isn’t something ‘real’, so you should try to ignore it.” By having De La Mata place her ear into an anechoic chamber, with an ultra-sensitive microphone perched in her ear canal, they were able to provide significant evidence to the contrary. “After the first recording of it, it was ‘There’s no way, this isn’t possible.’” They tried again with her breath held, and again with her tensing her ears, and again with other members of staff, but each time it became apparent that yes, the noises De La Mata hears are seemingly something physical.
