im so tired of seeing people diss monster hunter all the time. Like. just let me fight the dragon asshole to death before it kills the whole settlement where humans live, is basically the recurring plot of the game, overlaid with a thick helping of inspiring curiosity in nature where the monsters you hunt are only hunted because they are a danger to your rickety settlements.
The hunting of monsters in monster hunter in universe is about the hard fact that in that particular world the only way to live harmoniously with nature is often to fight it when it threatens you, which it does very much. Plus much more often than not the monsters have strayed from their usual territories and are invasive, breed extremely quickly and begin to overpopulate, or have become so singularly destructive that when they move to a new area they threaten to explode the balance of the ecosystem single handed.
humans in monster hunter as just as much a part of maintaining the balance of life as every other creature in universe. without humans in monster hunter things would fall out of sync the same as with any species of monster. Its not about man conquering nature, its about living and fighting out of necessity to maintain the balance of nature not to mention learning about the mysteries of life. more than anything monster hunter focusses on progressing narratives about investigating new environments and new creatures and has a powerful emphasis on appreciating the beauty and respecting the majesty of the creatures you face.

Dude Diablos is a monster so incredibly violent and dangerous that a desert city sent out an army to deal with it and only half of their soldiers came back. The Diablos killed the rest and was still alive.
Zinogre in Portable third is responsible for killing several children along with menacing a whole town. In Tri an Elder Dragon almost caused a fishing village to sink into the ocean and another in generations started giving the wildlife super rabies.
It honestly cannot be overstated how fucking DANGEROUS these creatures are in Monster Hunter and Humanity is nowhere the top of the food chain. So it grinds my gears when people who know nothing about the games jump on the ‘Humans are the real monsters.’ Bandwagon. Humans are the scavengers trying to carve out an existence while Dragons the size of stadiums try to body slam their homes.
