I just want to remind people that it’s 2024 and we didn’t “go thru a pandemic” we are “going thru a pandemic” present tense. It is still happening. People are still get sick, still becoming disabled, and still dying. Covid hasn’t gone away and I beg people to not normalize getting sick with it.

I remember a couple of years ago, a friend who got the virus claimed that she liked it because it made her brain quiet, like "a fog rolling in and covering up all the noise" and when the rest of us in the group said that wasn't great, she got defensive and said "it wasn't so bad" and she recovered quickly, but someone thinks she had a ministroke and didn't realize.

She also got weirdly upset if anyone brought up deaths from COVID and kept saying that it couldn't be that horrible. It turns out that she hates needles and hasn't had any kind of vaccination.

Anxiety can lead to a lot of odd thoughts.

Islam is used for oppression in Islamic countries, Christianity is used for oppression in Western countries, atheism is used for oppression in China, Shinto is used for oppression in Japan, Native religions are used for oppression in our tribes, etc, etc. The point isn't that any or all religion is inherently evil or violent, just that cruel and selfish people seeking power will use anything they can to control others.

I’ve been doing some field work with geologists this winter and I’m kind of amazed by how these dudes can pick up a handful of dirt and talk about it for an hour using terms I’ve never heard of. Like wow you see a whole universe in there that I don’t. The world is truly full of beauty and we only comprehend a fraction of it.
