Please stop recommending sparkling water to people who struggle with overeating.

The gasses in sparkling water distend the stomach and aid in stretching it, which means the person ends up in a vicious cycle of not feeling full > overeating > gaining weight.

Dr. Nowzaraden has an excellent seminar on this and how sparkling water when consumed regularly, same with all carbonated drinks, can lead to a cycle of overeating.

And if you're going to accuse me of being neurotypical, I'm autistic too. ASD/ASPS. There are other alternatives for stimming.

hi there. there’s actually a lot of debate regarding whether sparkling water is bad for you, a lot of people actually agree that it can actually improve digestion and have a lot of positive benefits. I’m not at all suggesting that anyone drink sparkling water as a supplement or instead of eating a healthy amount - the cycle of overeating wouldn’t be an issue here because i’m talking about the instances where the person (after already having eaten a healthy amount) isn’t hungry at all and Is eating solely for the sensory benefit. I used to go to crunchy food, sour food, spicy food just for the stimulation and drinking a glass of sparkling water helped me stop overeating and having a really unhealthy diet.

just to clarify again - this is not a ‘stop overeating tip’ for people that struggle with binge eating disorder or binge eat for any other reason. I only recommend this to other neurodivergent people who overeat as a stim/sensory issue because it personally worked well for me.

I just saw a post about the Calm Harm app that said there's also a very similar app called Clear Fear! I didn't want to reblog that post because some of the reblogs were very guilt trippy, so here's my own post about it:

Clear Fear is an app that helps you with anxiety attacks in much the same way Calm Harm helps with self harm. You can customise your colours, you can add a passcode to it so that other people can't open the "self-monitoring" tab with your information, and you can customise your gender. This last bit is only for research purposes but I thought it was nice :)

When you first open the app, it asks you to make your own personal list of activities that you know help you reduce anxiety. You can also add contact numbers of people you know you can talk to when you're having an attack. You can fill these in later, tho!

Once inside the app, you can go back to these lists in the tab "safety net":

The orange circle takes you to a hotline number page. The other two circles take you to the activities and people that you listed earlier. If you write down these lists when you're feeling good, it'll help you remember all the things that can help and that you may not be able to list while you're having an attack!

There are many more options depending on your individual needs — an animal gif section, a joke section, a section with ideas to express yourself, a list of positive thoughts and inspirational quotes, breathing activities, information on the different types of anxiety, and much more!

As an end note, please don't add guilt-tripping comments to this post. No one must reblog this — only those who feel comfortable doing so!

if you are a neurodivergent person who finds themselves overeating bc you’re just seeking that specific sensory stimuli I strongly recommend sparkling/fizzy water! it really helped me with my overeating after I realised it was a sensory issue <3
