How have you people forgot the actual show- why are half the notes just forgetting like four major endings/plot points?
Sam’s death, Dean’s refusal to function.
Dean refused to move, refused to hunt, and sold his soul in exchange for Sam’s. Dean was barely functioning when Sam first got killed. The brother he’s been protecting for years, is dead, on the table. But he refuses to do anything even if means demons will bring upon whatever it is they were planning. (Bobby: “Something big is going down – end-of-the world big”; Dean: “Well then let it end!”) (All Hell Breaks Loose Pt.2, S2E22)
The Trials, Church Scene.
How can any of you forget the most gut wrenching season ending. If Sam finishes the trials, he’s dead. Sam, the martyr and the insecure mf he is, needs to be purified and to die in exchange to be the best brother. (Sam: “Other people will die if we don’t finish this!”) (Sam: “You wanna know what I confessed in there? What my greatest sin was? Was how many times I let you down.”)
Despite Dean’s effort to prioritize Benny more than Sam this season, that motherfucker took everything back (Dean: “I killed Benny to save you, I’m willing to let this bastard and all the sons of bitches that killed mom walk because of you. Don’t you dare, think that there’s anything past or present that I would put in front of you. It has never been like that, ever. I’m begging you to see that. I’m begging you.”) Is this necessarily world ending? No. But this means that demon deals are going to continue to be made, demons will always exist, supernatural deaths continue to happen. All in exchange for Sam’s life. (Sacrifice, S8E23)
Killing Death, Freeing the Darkness
Dean killed Death knowing that it would fuck up some huge big thing because (Death: “Your brother cannot be killed and the mark cannot be destroyed not without letting out far greater evil than any of us have ever known”; Dean: “The Darkness”) Yes, he was agreeing to kill Sam for a great long moment. He even had the boy to fucking kneel down to kill him. Then continued to abuse his fucking brother only for him to be like: “You will never, ever, hear me say you are anything but good,” pulls out photographs, then ended up killing Death because he couldn’t betray his family, Sam, because he loved him. (My Brother’s Keeper, S10S24)
Letting Chuck live, letting Jack explode with no purpose
When Chuck, God, was being served on a platter to die for the Winchesters, Sam was refusing it because all the people who died, all the people who are not from this universe, will cease to exist, Billie’s orders. (Sam: “If Billie takes over, then everyone goes back to where they belong. Everyone from Apocalypse world. Bobby, Charlie, they get sent back to a place that doesn’t exist anymore. And everyone we saved, Eileen, she just dies again, and that’s just the beginning.”) Dean pulls out a gun at Sam, typical abusive fashion, and they argue. Because Dean simply doesn’t care anymore. He was willing to sacrifice so hundreds of people, including Jack, for this to end. (Dean: “I trade them all in a heartbeat”, “Otherwise he’ll keep us tap dancing forever. I can’t live like that. I won’t.”)
Then, Sam, with the puppy eyes, genuinely sorta guilt tripped Dean how much he loved him so that he could stop. (Sam: “What about me? Would you trade me?”; “You got to trust me. My entire life, you’ve protected me. From Dad. I didn’t always like it, you know. But it’s the one thing in the while world that I can always count on. It’s the only thing I’ve ever known was true. So please, put the gun away. Just put it away. We’ll figure it out, Dean. We’ll find another way. We always do.”) Again, is it really world ending? Not really. But then this meant that Chuck would still be Chuck, pulling all the strings, and bringing chaos to the world for a shitty book. And we all know where that ended up. (Unity, S15E17)
This list doesn’t even include the things Dean did in general for Sam. The demon deals, Benny, leaving Lisa and Ben (then again he was already experiencing cycle of abuse by then), letting himself die with that one virus that made people real aggressive, becoming a vessel for Michael to help save Sam from Lucifer, that one couple that was from that werewolf nest that he would’ve probably abandoned because they would’ve abandoned Sam. So many things that Dean did for Sam.
Here’s a few counter arguments for some notes. I didn’t scroll that far.
“He literally refused to do that in the show, in season five” The original plan was for Sam and Dean to get to him in Detroit. Then when Lucifer took Sam, Dean said he was going to talk to him and that “he won’t die alone” (Dean’s words) if Michael kills his brother. He didn’t sacrifice Sam, hell, he probably didn’t know what would happen. And also, the utter grief that Dean was in is great enough that this wasn’t what he wanted.
“When Chuck erased the entire world, Dean offered to kill Sam” MAJOR CORRECTION, this was what Dean said “The whole Cain-and-Abel thing. Us dead. Whatever. I'll kill Sam. Sam will kill me. We'll kill each other. Okay? You pick.” This means that he would die for Sam, and Sam would die for Dean. They were both sacrificing each other. He wasn’t offering to kill Sam, he wasn’t sacrificing Sam. They were sacrificing each other, probably hoping they’d both die.”
“Wincest propaganda.” Please tell me you’re kidding. This is canon text from the show. The entire point of the show is that Sam and Dean won’t let the other die, won’t let their family die, that’s the only reason this show continues on. There is no propaganda when people are shoving to you canon text from the show. However, my next point.
“Dean is the most caring man on earth, don’t forget Cas’ words.” That almost sounds like propaganda. One, Castiel is a Winchester dick sucker. He let them, mostly Dean, neglect him, throw him away, leave him to rot in purgatory if his ass didn’t appear (second time they went there), and just overall use him. And Castiel acknowledges this, by the way. (This isn’t a strong point because I spent so long trying to find the scene and I know it’s weak. If anyone remembers it, it’s the scene where Castiel to Crowley(?) in late seasons go “After the Winchesters are done with you, you’ll be thrown aside/killed. They don’t care about you.” which Crowley(?) replies “You speaking from experience?/You know that well, don’t you?”) Also, caring man on earth is the most exaggerated thing anyone has ever said. That man follows the cycle of abuse that he got from John. He punches Sam, threatens to kill him. Sacrifice so many people with no care. Violates Sam’s bodily autonomy. Pulled a gun on a child to do something they don’t wanna do, which also violates bodily autonomy. He has a lot of bad moments like a lot of characters in this show. Please don’t try to erase canon, do that for fanfiction instead.
I always thought that this fandom’s greatest opinion was that “Sam didn’t love Dean enough” because of how many times Dean sacrificed himself, or other people, for Sam. Ya’ll wanna rewatch the show with me or something? Get a proper refresher?
